The answer is YES, unless you can find that same mouse for cheaper.

I've got the mx 518, the g7, and now the mx. They were all around 100 bux and they're all from logitech.

One of my friends just questioned my motive for buying a hundred dollar mouse recently (the last one mentioned/shown). I told him that out of all of the computer junk that I use, the mouse and keyboard are used the most. I told him that I thought it was worth the hundred dollar investment if I actually use the thing as much as I claim ... and I think I do.

Here's why I liked each mouse:

MX 518 - this was great because of the extra buttons. I used those a lot in games.
G7 - this came with two batteries. use one, and charge the other: no downtime
MX (performance mouse) - hyper scrolling is awesome for google reader, the forums, and other long webpages. that's pretty much the only reason I have this mouse. It can also track on glass ... novelty feature I suppose.

They're all logitechs because those seem to last the longest for me. I've never broken a logitech mouse. All of my logitechs are still in good working order.

This is the mouse I want:

I do have a question for the wireless mouse guys though. Have any of you switched to bluetooth? I've avoided bluetooth like the plague ever since it came out. Is it of any benefit to go with a wireless bluetooth mouse?

And a question for the hyper scrolling guys. Have any of you got your hyper scrolling to work without any lag? That is, when you move the scroll button (regardless of how small) your scroll bar on the screen moves as well as opposed to having to move the scroll button a certain distance before the scroll bar on the screen decides to react.

Elecom M-SN1UL Scope Node Laser Sensor Mouse

It's really a novelty item from Japan -it looks pretty cool though. They claim to have the most precise mouse or something along those lines. Their selling point is that the laser is kind of sort of in the general location that a pen tip would be if you were holding a pen ... thus more precise. Also 1600 dpi.

I haven't heard anything good about the G9 yet ...

I have heard nothing but good about the steelseries ikari laser mouse. I actually just returned my logitech performance MX today for one of these.

The obvious win on the logitech's is the hyper scrolling, but at the same time, the obvious lose is middle clicking, which I do a lot of in CAD apps ... in windows actually. I really tried to get the hang of middle clicking on the mx but it just flat out doesn't do it well, or consistently, at all.

Going to the ikari mouse for the first time was an interesting twist. It's pretty accurate and all that, HOWEVER you really do instantly miss that hyperscrolling. But, the pinpoint precision and the ability to middle click are gladly accepted.

Funny thing though. According to the steelseries website, this mouse does not work with their glass mousepads .... but, I know the mx does nicely. All lasers aren't created equal? I was really looking forward to a slick and smooth glass mousepad. I'm still trying to figure the pad thing out though.

edit: I take back what I said about it being worth it. Seems like you can always find the mouse you want under 100 bux as long as it's not just sold by 1 store. For instance, the g9x is 100 bux in the best buy store, but the g9 is less than 50 bux from best buy online. What's the dif between the two? The cheaper one goes to like 3k dpi and the more expensive one goes to about 5k dpi (those figures are approximates).

Also, I returned that ikari mouse. I don't think it's worth 100 bux just for being accurate. It's definitely a one trick pony.

This thread convinced me to get a MX Revolution to replace my aging Logitech mx310.
Luckily, Logitech is offering this mouse for 43$ with the coupon logi_mxrev_12189. Don't know how long this will last, but if anyone else is interested; there you go.

Nice timing!

The logitech performance MX is 59.99 on Amazon right now with free shipping. http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-910-001105-Performance-Mouse-MX/dp/B002HWRJBM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

And here's the G9 for 44.99 at best buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Logitech+-+G9+Laser+Gaming+Mouse/8472324.p?id=1185265538878&skuId=8472324&st=g9

What did you use as the middle button? I don't think any scroll wheel works well as a button. On my MX1000 and M555b I use the scroll wheel's side tilt as a middle click and on my MX620 I use the small search-button left of the left button, it's pretty much perfect.
You're right, none of the logitech hyper enabled scroll buttons work as buttons. I'll just have to get over that and remap middle click to another button. That said, I returned that 100 dollar ikari mouse and am going to get the deal I posted above about the PMX unless I can find it cheaper somewhere else.

Initially I paid 100 bux for the pmx that I returned ... anyways, I'm back on earth now. Two mouse returns later I'm going back to the pmx but I'm keeping an eye on the pricetag this time since they can't manage to make middle click work properly.

The ikari mouse was beautiful though. Everything it did, it did very well. There were no problems with the mouse but I really can't get over that hyperscrolling. It's just like having a backlit keyboard; once you get it and get used to it, it's hard to go back to something else.

Wrong. The MX1100 has the hyper-scrolling feature, but the wheel is clickable and can be set as middle button/button 3/whatever the gently caress.
I meant that, although it "works" .. it might as well not work. It's that bad at it.

I got the last one at Frys. $60 before a $15 rebate. So happy. No more docking station like on my MX1000. I can use the same charger as my phone.
60 dollars!? It's 100 dollars on the frys website. It also says 99.99 on the box you're holding up. How in the world did you get it for 60?

That mouse has some insane unusable dpi on it. I read the number on a gizmodo post and laughed out loud.

Was in the market for a mouse to go along with my used 2730p tablet off craigslist. This tablet has one of the most terribly small touchpads I've ever used and nipple mice never did make me happy -it has the nipple and the pad. Anyways, here's what I ended up purchasing and/or returning:

Logitech M570

I wanted something that was precise! I'm used to the precision of an mx518 and a trackman marble. This was most similar to the mx marble except the ball is under your thumb in the m570. I figured a trackball is a trackball .. I was wrong.

Pros: 2.4 wireless, trackball AND a scroll wheel, extra buttons

Cons: pretty large

Dealbreaker: Trying to navigate with a thumb trackball proved to be too difficult. I really had to concentrate just to get the pointer where I wanted. Returned it because I didn't feel like dealing with that steep of a learning curve.
---

Logitech Optical Trackman

Dissappointed by the thumb trackmans learning curve, I decided to move back to a more marble-like trackman. But I still wanted the thing to be wireless so I got this model. Here's the thing though, the box and all the pictuers on logitechs website never showed me that this guy had a huge hockey puck sized tranciever. Totally caught me off guard; had to return it.

Pros: marble-like trackball, scroll wheel, lots of buttons

Cons: pretty large

Deal breaker:

razer orochi

This mouse looked pretty comfortable to hold. After opening it, it felt pretty comfortable too. The razer software leaves something to be desired.

Pros: no dongle necessary (bluetooth), light weight, battery life, not terrible uncomfortable for a tiny mouse, can use it in wired mode, pretty lights

Cons: can't charge the mouse with the usb cord, could be unconfortable -since it's small- if used for extended periods

Deal breaker: I couldn't figure out how to keep the bluetooth from falling asleep and then doing it's pointer lag-spike dance when I moved the mouse after a small amount of idle time. For example, I could be reading something on my computer and let go of the mouse for about 5 seconds. Once I'm ready to click something, I move the mouse again and at that very moment that I move the mouse, the pointer does NOT move. Meanwhile, my mouse has already moved half an inch, so in the next second, in order to play catch up, the pointer SKIPS across the screen to where it thinks it's supposed to be and it's just an very ugly experience if you're a) playing games or b) looking for precision from something that's wireless.

---

Performance MX

Hyperscrolling! I used to think this feature was amazing but now I realize that it's cool and it sucks (too fast and sensitive) at the same time. The good part is I can turn it off when I need to do stuff and use a, although below average, suitable scroll wheel. The mouse is very comfortable to my hands. The default logitech software doesn't let me change scroll size to 1 line per scroll so I installed uberoptions and all is well.

Pros: hyperscroll tomfoolery, middle click actually works on this one, lots of buttons, comfortable, pretty accurate tracking

Cons: I heard the battery life lasts for like a week or so, pretty large

Deal breaker: NONE.

However, knowing that its direct competitor (the anywhere mx) has similar features, is cheaper, lighter, smaller, and has better battery life makes me feel kind of slighted.

---

Anywhere MX

Only picked this one up to test it against it's big brother, the performance mx. Figured maybe I just might like the smallness and it turns out that I do like it for my laptop since I'm mousing in tight spaces pretty often.

Pros: hperscroll tomfoolery, small and works out well for tight spaces, i heard battery life lasts for 2-3 months or so, tracking feels even more accurate than the performance mx IMO - might have something to do with the fact that I feel like I have better control of the device somehow..

Cons: possibly uncomfortable after long periods? no regular middle click; I made the button behind the scroll wheel my middle click and it's working out fine

Think I'll keep this one. All the other mice either have been returned or are going to be returned.

observation

I feel like I'm more accurate with my optical mx518 than all of these other mice, even the dark tracking mx's. Maybe that's due to the fact that I'm so used to it. I know the G400 is out at best buy (it's there, I saw it), I just wished they had made a 2.4 wireless one with the dark tracking - don't need the hyperscroll business even though it's fun to play with from time to time. That would be pretty kewl.
