The Cleveland Plain Dealer reported that Kokinis, who was in his first year as the Browns GM, was escorted out of the Browns facility in Berea by security Monday. However, the Browns organization denied those reports in a statement Monday night.

more browns news.

quote:

George Kokinis is out as general manager of the Cleveland Browns after less than one year on the job. The manner in which he will make his official exit was in dispute Monday, according to team and league sources.

Kokinis refused to resign when pressed by owner Randy Lerner, who then persisted in seeking a dismissal "for cause," citing Kokinis for failing to meet the specific standards as dictated by his contract, the sources said. The team's security and legal department were reviewing phone records to build its case against Kokinis, a team source said.

There also were discussions of whether the two sides could reach a financial settlement, sources said.

quote:

Ernie Accorsi, former general manager of the New York Giants, Baltimore Colts and Browns, is being sought by Lerner as a consultant, a league source said. Accorsi could not be reached for comment. Accorsi has served in a consulting capacity on numerous occasions for teams and has an alliance with former Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar, who was hired by Lerner as a consultant on Oct. 17.

quote:

Lerner has independently investigated professional and personal conduct by Kokinis, head coach Eric Mangini and director of football operations Erin O'Brien, who left the organization within the past few days, sources said. Mangini said Monday he had spoken with Lerner and was told his job was safe for now.

Worse, he then went and betrayed his scorned master over something that every loving team was doing. He does not know how to run a team, he does not know how to coach a team. He is a giant bloated gently caress knuckle of unimaginable dimension.

He should have stayed with the Pats and studied harder, humbled himself. Why was he not able to do that? See my first paragraph. The one pats employee he managed to take with him has now been fired from the browns, for being an insufferable stinkyhole. Eric will eventually suffer the same fate.

Honestly, I would rather see the guy pull his head out of his rear end, stop acting like the second coming of Lord Belichick, and do something right. But I say to you that it will never happen. He is a worthless weasel faced fuckball and he will stay that way. No players will trust him, no staff will trust him. He is a turdball flying.

How many personnel decisions has Kokinis been responsible for? It seems like a guy in that position would need longer than less than one season to do a bad job. He came into a lovely team and organization. Not really trying to defend him, it just seems like an odd move.

Well, he pretty much sat by passively and let Mangini be a gay rear end faggot about the QB position debacle that is, to everyone else, a no loving brainer. As an angry Cleveland fan (our natural state of being), this alone is good enough for me to fire his dumb rear end.

Speaking as a Saints fan, the Falcons are pretty good, and without a doubt the best three-loss team in the league. There's a good reason why this was the narrowest margin of victory the Saints have had all season.

The situation with the Browns makes me really sad. I can only imagine what it must be like for the team's fans, supporters through thick and thin.

I can remember, as a little kid, getting all excited when the Browns game was coming up. I didn't know too much about football, but by god I knew that we hated them and we were going to see two teams pull out all the stops for each other. Now the only tension in the matchup is being worried about keeping the streak alive. The Ravens have managed to steal even the best rivalry in the NFL.

One of these years, maybe, things will change. The Browns will get it figured out, and I'll get a chance to hate them again. Until then, stay strong Clevelanders. You're better men than I.

The Minnesota Vikings moved their record to 7-1 by beating the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Lambeau Field. But FOX was the big winner.

Brett Favre's return to Lambeau was the highest-rated regular season NFL game on FOX in Minneapolis ever, according to the network, with a 47.0, which represents the percentage of Twin Cities' households that tuned into the game, and a 76 percent rating (representing the percentage of households with TVs tuning into the game).

At least locally, that latter figure was higher than the past three Super Bowls.

Nationally, the Packers-Vikings game did an 18.3 and a 34 percent rating, the network's best since Week 13 of the 2006 season. The game also did better than Game 4 of the World Series (15.6/ 25 percent rating), which was the best overnight numbers in five years.

Combined with the Carolina Panthers-Arizona Cardinals game, FOX'S NFL doubleheader ratings were the best in 13 years.

"Other than Super Bowl Sundays, November 1, 2009, goes down as the biggest day in the history of FOX SPORTS," the network said in a statement.

The main thing with Mangini is he was pretty much given free reign to make even FO decisions. I think they need a commanding GM brought in from outside the organization. I feel they should let Mangini be the coach for at least 1 more year, because I'm not convinced he's a bad coach just in way over his head. By replacing him the team isn't magically going to start winning again it will take time.

And let's face it, it's not just the Browns and who suck with new coaches. Raheem Morris nobody still knows who the gently caress that is. Spags has the same number of wins as the Browns, but he's not on the hot seat and shouldn't be. Maybe Mangini does stupid things and pisses off players, but look at McDaniels. He did that too and me the vast majority of others, thought he was a madman with how he handled Cutler, Marshall, and the Draft and right now they are looking like the best team in their division. The Browns everyone thought had a bad team with questions at Quarterback: and they are.

And I don't think their former GM was the problem so much that he was hired basically by Mangini. Hell hope the Bills hire the guy he had a decent draft I thought.

I just don't get what people's hopes are exactly. More creative offensive playcalling and not starting Quinn are about the only real faults I can find with the coaching staff. And I have already kind of excused the playcalling because I think Mangini's basically doing what Bill Belichick did, calling plays for players he doesn't have yet.

More than anything Mangini's done, I'm surprised by the reaction from fans. We have a 1-7 team because we have fuckin 1-7 talent, how is anybody shocked by this.

Browns fire a GM, and hire Erni Accorsi as the new guy the same day apparently:

quote:

George Kokinis was fired Monday as general manager and escorted from Browns headquarters, according to league sources. The Browns are not confirming the reports.

Hours later, sources said Ernie Accorsi was hired as the team's GM. The move is a blast from the past for Browns' fans. Accorsi was the Browns' GM from 1985 to 1992.

He also served as GM of the Colts from 1982 to 83, and also worked in the Giants' front office from 1994 to 2004, including a stint as New York's GM from 1998 and on.

In 2004, he spearheaded a trade to get No. 1 pick Eli Manning from the Chargers.

Kokinis has been on the hot seat for more than three weeks, the source said. The ax falls one day after Browns owner Randy Lerner said he plans on hiring a strong football personality to run the Browns.

The firing comes at the start of the bye week.

Kokinis was hired Jan. 23 at the urging of Browns coach Eric Mangini. Lerner has said Mangini's job is safe for now.

Not sure how I feel on this one yet

I thought Accorsi was just going to be a consultant. I didn't realize he was taking the reigns.
