Hey guys. My two year old Burmese-Persian cat (named Feo) has been throwing up about once an hour for the last 12 hours or so. It's been mostly clearly liquid, as I've seen him drinking from his bowl, it's probably water, but he hasn't been eating. (Offered him a slice of chicken and he didn't know what to do with it.) He seems really lethargic and won't even attack my other cat which he does constantly all drat day. It seems like he's trying to get some sort of toxin out of him but simply can't. I don't know if he's swallowed anything, and I'm seriously considering taking him to a vet. Does this happen to cats at all? The place isn't a total stye - the bowls were cleaned with just water and paper towel, the food is fresh and not rotten, and I brush them. Any suggestions?

Take it to a vet you retard. That isn't normal. Would you just chill if you puked every single hour and felt like poo poo, or would you do something about it like going to a doctor? Just because you are a selfish person doesn't mean your cat isnt entitled to the same standard of care you are. I hate people like you who treat their pets like poo poo. If you get a pet, you get responsibility to take care of the pet. If you can't do that, you shouldn't have gotten it in the first place. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

Jesus Christ dude, it started really late last night when every vet's office was closed, and I assumed he was just having a bad hairball. I woke up this morning and it was still happening, so I posted here. Don't bite my loving head off.

I don't know that much about cats, but from what I've gathered here not eating is big problem. I would take him to the vet - I would also worry about him getting dehydrated from all the vomiting. Hope he's okay.

Yeah, I've got an appointment for an hour and a half from now at a local vet up the street. It's gonna hurt cause I'm a starving college student, but oh well. C'est la vie.

I'd be worried about some sort of blockage or poison, both of which require prompt veterinary care. I have a cat who throws up clear liquid about once every two days. He has end-stage intestinal cancer.

My old cat started throwing up foamy liquid all the time and she had a blockage in her intestine. Thankfully it was inedible matter and not a tumor. I hope your cat ends up being okay!

Ok, took him into the vet. They did a physical and determined that the digestive tract is just agitated or blocked by something, but that he's not in pain, just kind of out of it and dehydrated. They gave him an injection of what I assume is something like a diuretic or laxative, some water under the skin, and a tube of white milky stuff (stomache relaxant) that I have to shove down his throat. If that doesn't work, I'll be going back tomorrow for X-rays and blood work.

Watch out for fatty liver disease, especially if he is a bit chunky. Hopefully he'll get back to eating tonight!

Right now he's just passed out on my couch covered in a blanket because he was feeling colder than room temperature. He's barely responsive but breathing OK. He's a really thin, energetic kitty. I also feed him Wellness Indoor which I know is a fairly good brand of food so it's not like the food is causing it, and it's lower in fat. He was eating fine until yesterday. I'm just letting him sleep. I don't think he's had a catnap before now in almost 15-16 hours which is probably why he's so tired right now. He's right beside me so I'm just going to keep checking on him for the rest of the evening. edit: also, picture. one on the left is the sick one. one on the right is my older cat Peter. They're both majorly sucky cats. ![]() Click here for the full 960x720 image. Lainlike fucked around with this message at Nov 03, 2009 around 22:37 |

Honestly what you are describing now is really disturbing too... any decrease in temperature is really bad. That in combination with lethargy is enough to make me think you should go back to the vet or go to an e-vet.

He's stopped vomiting and hasn't done it since I took him to the vet. He seems a lot better than before. His temperature has also risen since before as well.

OK, so last night he threw up his medicine. I let him rest for a while and drink some liquids, which he managed to keep down. I gave him some more and then he seemed able to sleep through the night. I woke up this morning and he still wasn't eating or being very responsive. I gave him some more of the medicine (Sulcrate, btw) and he seemed to perk up a bit. He's walking around, using his litter box, and even playing with the other kitty (albeit weakly) which he seemed apathetic to doing yesterday. He's also warmer. I took him to the vet again and they said he seemed to be getting better. They gave him more fluids (because he still wasn't drinking much) and more Zantac. I also got some special food from Hills designed for gastro problems. I'm going to live him in the hands of my partner and see how he's doing after my lecture. He seems to be doing better now despite not eating well. If he doesn't start eating by later tonight, I'll be taking him into the vet tomorrow yet again.

Yeah, if a cat doesn't eat for as little as two or three days, they will die from fatty liver disease. You should try really stinky food, canned cat food or even canned tuna, whatever he will eat. If he doesn't start eating, the vet may have to put him on IV. If money becomes an issue and you don't have a credit card, you can look into CareCredit. Make sure you tell the vet how long its been since he's actually eaten, your cat sounds really bad off from what you've said.

He's actually started eating his new wet special food in the last few hours. He's moving around more, too, and starting to play with the other kitty. He's also gone to his litterbox a couple of times too. He seems to be getting better by the hour, although he's obviously still a bit drained from the whole experience. I'm giving him small amounts for now and will work him up for the rest of the evening. Then tomorrow or the day after I'll let him have free reign on his food again. I think whatever he has/had is starting to pass and he's getting better. The vet even said he was acting better than yesterday.

Yeah he's running around and playing now, and actually meowing for food. Back to normal, it looks like. ![]() Crisis averted. Still going to give him his medicine until tomorrow morning, but I think he'll do fine. Thanks everyone.

I wonder if there was a blockage or something, our cat that stopped eating and neared death really turned the corner after taking a massive horrible dump, which was simultaneously great and disgusting.
