Softball Players found in vehicle underneath lakequote:DICKINSON, N.D. – Authorities found the bodies of three missing Dickinson State University students in a vehicle submerged in a stock pond northwest of town Tuesday, two days after they went missing. quote:Kyrstin Gemar, 22, Ashley Neufeld, 21, and Afton Williamson, 20, were inside Gemar’s white Jeep Cherokee, which was pulled from the 12-foot-deep pond Tuesday afternoon, Dickinson Police Lt. Rod Banyai said at a news conference. quote:Foul play is not suspected, but the matter has not been ruled an accident, either, Banyai said. ![]() ![]() ![]() I'll miss you alot Afton, its unreal that you aren't still with us. I can't believe someone ive known my whole life is gone like that. This is so unfair and senseless. I don't know if anyone cares or if this is in the wrong place, but I felt like this would be an appropriate place to post this. Move it or ask me to close it if its a problem.

Wow that really sucks, sorry this story hits home for you more than any of the rest of us (I think it's safe to assume). Definitely worthy of a thread.

somethingawful is going soft waa this website has gone soft/normal about things like run of the mill human empathy since ancient times, probably reflects the whole migration from sociopathic nerd community to group of people who have moderately normal sensibilities over the last X years

Not surprised that scoobi has already re-registered. The only way this would have hurt him is if he got like a 72 hour probation on top of the ban. [/derail] It's always sad to have anyone pass away, sorry for your loss OP.

Yeah this is lovely news. I used to play baseball every summer down in Dickinson. There always seemed to be lots of girls around the stadium. Seemed like a pretty big baseball (softball) town. They definitely had a sweet ballpark.

From what I gathered of the news report, they were basically driving at night through a field and just happened to drive into a 12 foot deep lake in the middle of a field? Seems odd to me, but my condolences nonetheless.

It's unreal to me. Also, scoobi shouldn't have been banned, I would have laughed if I wasn't affected.

Politicalrancor posted:Thanks, everybody. Car windows are pretty hard to break without a tool of some sort, and once you're submerged it's incredibly tough to open a window because of the difference in pressure. It obviously normalizes when the car is full of water, but then it's hard to break the window for other obvious reasons (although you could probably open the door at that point I guess). If they were actually taken by surprise by the lake, the moments of confusion and hesitation cost them dearly. E:F,B.

Yeah people should really have one of those window breaking tools in their car, otherwise you have to be smart enough to roll down the window before you go under, or wait till it fills with water before opening the door to get out. They opted for "call someone on our cell phones and cry for help." I'm wondering what the temp of the water was, and if it filled slow enough that they were in shock by the time pressure equalized.
