Besides what am I going to have for dinner or why did you post this thread, what do you really want to know that you cant, and probably wont, find an answer for? Id like to know how the internet and increasing computerization are going to shape the future but I probably wont know until it happens. How about you's guys?

If there's anything after death. \/ Yeah, that'll probably fail the won't find out clause eventually, but that's the question that would give me the most relief in definitively knowing whether it's yes or no. Probably wouldn't really change anything though.

Brickhouse Betty posted:I don't even want to see what happens when the fanatics get proof of an afterlife. Proof would rather end those wars, don't you think? If anything, the biggest issue is the high level of restrictions most religions technically put on our daily lives (but no one follows them except for extremists). So, whatever one turned out to be right, it would suck at least a bit to follow their poo poo or get damned eternally or whatever.

Urban Renewal posted:what if you could have this answered but it turned out to be just "yes" with no further explanation Well, it'd be better than no answer, and I guess I'd be a tiny bit happier for it. I mean, it might insinuate we're all going to burn for eternity or something, but that's still more interesting than nothing, and it might mean something more palatable either. But such an answer would just raise a whole lot more troubling questions, really. Like whether you'd be missing out on something far grander by trying to extend your lifespan, or whether you'd be avoiding a bad outcome.

I'm going to keep answering peoples' questions.Last Emperor posted:Fake edit: Seriously though I'd probably ask something a bit mundane, like, would my ancestors be 'proud' of me? Probably not, unless your ancestors were much more open minded than the average person of their day. They likely held bigoted views and would see you as being too open, accepting, and permissive for the same reason you'd think of them as being closed minded and brutal. Adrenochrome posted:I want to know if acupuncture works The evidence points to 'sometimes'. For some conditions real acupuncture has not proven more effective than sham treatments. Or even worse! For others, there is some evidence that it works slightly better than accepted mainstream treatments, or that it provides measurable benefits when used in addition to said treatments.

axolotl farmer posted:Sticking needles in your skin has some local effects. Acupuncture points and meridians are nonsense. It's mostly useless. The studies I have read disagree with this point. Here is one that found that acupuncture conditionally worked somewhat better than standard drug treatment for migraines. http://mrw.interscience.wiley.com/c...1218/frame.html It doesn't work for everything and needle placement isn't as finicky as practitioners believe but the evidence points to the the fact that it has a measurable affect when used as a treatment for certain conditions. It's difficult as gently caress to study though, since it isn't possible to set up a double blind experiment for it. T8R posted:No. There isn't anything after death.
