Internet police - step away from the keyboard sir

Oh hello, I didn't see you there. you see, I was too busy ROCKING OUT FOR CHRISTMAS!

That's right, it's time once again for me to coldly ignore a bunch of plaintive requests from innocents and let my pm box get full. Hooray! So fire up your burning barrels for the cold winter nights, people, it's README TIME

I can't log in for some reason!
Register anew, the system is overhauled every year.

I was a supersanta and I'm very concerned that
You are still a supersanta. The site will reflect this, soon.

I was a deadbeat last year. Can I participate?
No.

It was illegitimate though!
Oh, that's different. Email me proof about it then.

I'm moving between now and Christmas, so do I like, what
Register with whatever address is more likely to result in you receiving the gift. I'm not a scientist but my guess would be that you should register with where you're moving to.

I registered for SA 5 minutes ago but your site says some bullshit about how I can't take part? DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!
You must have registered before  October 24, 2009 . That is to say, no later than  2009-10-23 23:59:59  server time.
Actually you will be able to sign up no matter who you are, but when it comes time to verify that you are who you claim to be on SA, that step will not succeed. You are not getting away with anything if it lets you submit your address.

OMG PLEASE
If you pass the postcount restriction I may entertain the idea, but I don't want to get your hopes up. Not letting people in who have had no time to become a part of anything is one of the main ways we prevent deadbeat santas.

Last year you let a bunch of lurker retards in despite the regdate limit. Have you fixed this?
Yes. There will be a postcount limit, but what exactly it will be hasn't been nailed down. I was thinking 30, or 50 1-20 absolute value from zero (so that FYAD users can play too), but please don't discuss it in this thread. If you want to talk to me about it email santa [at} operationcitadel.net.

I'm a lurker and I'm really mad about this!
If you're old enough, I will consider it, but I don't want to get your hopes up. Not letting people in who have very few posts is new and exciting.

WHEN DO I GET MY SANTEE
December 1.

What if I don't want to ship internationally?
Then don't ship internationally, jeez.

I'm in the EU so I picked EU for region but I want to ship to Asia or the US or something
READ poo poo BEFORE YOU CLICK IT

I hear those things are awfully loud ...
It glides as softly as a cloud.

What should I send oh god I am not imaginative
You should e-stalk your victim santee to find out what they might like. You should also make posts about your interests in the coming month so that your santa will have some idea of who you are. Do not post poo poo like "Gosh I sure wish I had a he-man figurine", especially if you don't actually want a he-man figurine, but double especially if you do. Maybe you could post a lot in a thread about he-man.

well I mean how expensive should what I send be?
Whatever you want. Just decouple your expectation for what you receive from what you send. If you send someone $500 in cash, awesome, but don't expect a $500 tv in return because there is no return, just an unrelated gift from someone else. Expect to receive something between $0 and $20 in value and you will likely not be disappointed.

I got shafted last year and
SHUT UP. Every year a bunch of you come out of the woodwork to cry about your shafting. I agree it's terrible! Also, you're in the minority by an order of magnitude! If you have any ideas for how to make this even less common than it is, EMAIL ME, don't post about it in the thread. I would make this probatable if I could.

I emailed you about being a supersanta with proof last year and you never answered
I'm sorry I'm an rear end in a top hat. However, I did make all of you supersantas, I just didn't write you about it. (There were a lot of you.) go log in! Right now it doesn't tell you if you were a supersanta but I promise it knows.

can I be ID 0?
No. I am ID 1. One of you can be ID 2 though!

You keep saying dollar values. Can I send things that I made by hand?
YES. If you can make awesome poo poo, please make awesome poo poo. I would much rather have something you made than a he-man figurine. (please do not send me a he-man figurine.)

Can I send you a present, tiaz? Or the other guy, flashbangbob?
Of course! But please make it clear that you're not my santa. And of course I can't speak for flashbangbob.

why would I want to take part in a lameboat gift exchange
because you will probably receive cool poo poo and in my experience it is one of the major drivers of christmas cheer in the season.

I'm too cool for christmas cheer
get out then

Can you make the assignments early?
No. Well I mean I could, but I won't: I don't want to stomp thanksgiving. Just don't faff about for two weeks after you're assigned and it'll be fine. International shippers should understand but not expect that their packages may be late. THIS IS NOT AN EXCUSE TO BE LATE! You still have to try to be on time!

do you have those awesome resources people have posted in past years like the bee wrapping paper or the bee shipping labels or the hundreds of bees?
No, sorry. But someone does and I'm sure they'll post soon and then I will thank them!

Is there anyone you'd like to thank?
Yes! Many of whom I can't remember!
  • FLASHBANGBOB, who ajaxed up my internets.
  • YOUDUMMY, who is sort of a deputy santa and answers questions before I remember to even though I don't give him anything in return.
  • TLG JAMES, who is similar.
  • OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE SIMILAR, who I have forgotten.
  • DEFENESTRATION, whose liberal arts education has finally been put to use in forging a thread title.

Shortly I will remember things I have forgotten and add them to the thread. UNTIL THEN, http://sass.operationcitadel.net/ PARTY TIME!

REMEMBER, just having registered doesn't mean you're done! A week from now you will receive an email about further steps.

You know, I was pretty bent tonight while eating dinner seeing a tv commercial with holiday music.

But signing up has changed my attitude towards the season. I am ready! (However, can I please keep the 70 degree weather we're having?)

Thanks to the awesome ones who put this together!

e: I see lots of letters to Santa, so here is mine... I've posted around a bit, but you probably wouldn't gather a whole lot from them.

Dear Goon Claus,

I've been a relatively good late 20s-aged girl this year. I work in IT, as well as do photography for websites at work. I also like taking photos of live music after work! If all goes to plan, I might even finish up college (Kansas State University) sometime next year with a degree in Art History.

Things I like are pretty varied. I love geeky gadget/toys. I love photography (I have a Nikon D60, although most gadgets for those are kind of expensive. Just throwing it out there though.), and photography toys. I'm a huge music fan, and am trying to collect vinyl of my favorite bands (last.fm - hockeyfrog). I am addicted to scarves that I can wear in my hair or around my neck. I also play bass guitar. Cooking is a favorite pasttime, as well as eating (ie, I'd love to try regional/international foods/candies!). I also am a fan of frogs, and hockey, if you couldn't tell by my handle. (Specifically I'm a Colorado Avalanche fan.) I love crazy jewelry, like rings and necklaces. I crochet. I like regional knickknacks and such, I'd love to learn more about where my Goon Claus is from! I have a penchant for British television as well (shows like The Mighty Boosh, Peep Show, IT Crowd, How Not to Live Your Life)...

My only dislikes are going to be as follows: Jalepenos (I'm allergic, but drat it if they aren't tasty), and things that are NWS/NMS.

(in-letter edit:) I realized while I may be hard to stalk here, Google sure seems to know a lot about me. However, anything that has someone named Theresa masquerading as hockeyfrog is *not* me.

I will leave a glass of milk and cookies (or beer and pizza, if you prefer?) out this year for you.

Love,
hofro

Just finished regging. My first SASS ever, cross your fingers and rear end cheeks.

Edit: I'm a 21 year old male. My interests are well within the expected norm. No pictures of naked people please. Or molded silicone body parts. Or iPod cozies.

If you are from a country other than the USA, local stuff is awesome and will be treasured, especially food which will be thoroughly cuddled inside of me. A cd full of awesome house/ambient/electronica will be treated like baby Jesus, if Jesus enjoyed being spun around really fast with lasers pointed at him for hours.

First SASS for me. I'm already wondering if my soon to be santee's gift will be ok

e: Gonna post it here for all to see.

Santee: Don't be disappointed if I just get you whatever's on your list, I'm not very good with being imaginative. Also, if you're in another country (which'll be most likely), I'll probably do somewhat local shopping for you since I'm forever paranoid of sending things overseas and then you not getting them (which means no goon prints or anything, unless I can find something here that's just completely awesome for you).

Santa: I'm a 27yr old male who loves nothing more than to waste time playing PC or Xbox 360 games (note, though I live in Aus, I have a US Xbox 360, something to consider if you get me something for the Xbox). If you do some post searching you'll be able to see what games I play. I'm also love computers, so anything computer related would be awesome.

I love cooking, love experimenting with new things (I'm also secretly gay for Alton Brown, but I think everyone is). Anything chocolate (that doesn't contain nuts/peanut butter because, eww) will be quickly devoured.

I like homemade things, but right now it's not the best time for me to get decor, mostly because I don't have my own place yet (I'm staying with friends at the moment), and I don't tend to really decorate my house much. Don't let that deter you if you love sending homemade things though, I won't love them any less.

Yeah, that's about it.

e2: Oh yeah, no NWS/NMS. It's being sent to my parents place so I'm hoping to pick it up at christmas time. I think they'll freak if I suddenly get a box full of strap-on wearing horror bees or something.

My first ever SASS! I'm excited to ship things to the rest of the world!

E: I'm an (almost) 28 y/o female, and I'm a poor rear end music teacher. Nothing illegal please! I like my job. Since I'm a musician, I love lots of different musical things. Basically anything with (classy or cute) music stuff on it, especially if I can wear it. I have a thing for local bands, so anything in the rockish or singer/songwriter genre is great. I love dolphins, baseball, RPGs, clothes (t-shirt med/large if men's, 2x if women's a la threadless), classic board games. I have DS, Wii, PS2 and a 360 so GAMES! I like nerdy stuffs. Food is good but I am allergic to fish and watermelon so please read labels. If you're a non-US goon, that's awesome! Send me cool local stuffs. Oh, and one more thing...The internet has desensitized me to 99% of gross things, but I don't need to see people's severed heads or gaping assholes anymore, ok?

Future Santee, I'm not particularly crafty but I am creative! I live in a big, hot, desert-turned-urban-jungle so I'll try to bring you some cool local things. I will forums-stalk you like a pro.

Yaaaaaaay! First time doing this, so exciting!

Edit: Since I haven't really post anything that would give my Santa any hints...

Dear Secret Santa,
I'm a 26 year old genderqueer goon. Hobbies include critical analysis from an ecomarxist feminist perspective, repetitive/circular music, veganism, cats, and reading/nerding out in general. I'm surprisingly easy to please and pretty much down for anything, but if you are stuck and need any ideas to go off:

I'm going to be moving to a much colder part of the US in the foreseeable future, so wintery clothes (sizes S in men's, M-L in women's) might be nice. Handmade gifts or random oddities are also welcome, unused sex toys (in original packaging) are fine, or in general, anything that has a practical purpose. Can't wait to see what you put together!
