"Onidere" sounds like "tsundere". Onidere is a story of a boy and a girl who like each other.![]() Meet the boy, Tadashi Imamoto. ![]() Tadashi's good at knitting and being all around femine, but has strong resolve and his kindness gets him past some tough situations. Meet the girl, Saya Angelica Ikushima. ![]() Saya, or Demon Head Saya, is the undefeated all-powerful leader of her gang, Onigashirashu. She pretty much kicks everyone's rear end. Underneath her tough character, and especially around her boyfriend, Tadashi, she's as painfully 'dere' as they come. ![]() So obviously, Onidere is about these two as boyfriend and girlfriend, trying to keep their relationship a secret. Light-hearted romantic comedy and random battles ensue. Meet the gang, Momo (silent girl), Yuna (boob jokes/male strength complex), and Mitsuki (Anego complex). ![]() Meet the Student Council. President, Tomeo Kinoshita. Treasurer, Saki Nijinose. Secretary, Shuu Yamata. Tomeo is Justice. Invulnerable Justice. ![]() ![]() Saki, the only girl on the Student council, is delicate, likes money and really likes chocolate. ![]() Also, fat. ![]() Shuu is an old school Spirit Hunter housedad. He's p cool. ![]() Meet Kraken. ![]() He's a giant squid. Somehow becomes a minor character. Yea, I don't really know either. And more. So if you need a fun mindless shonen manga to pass the time, want a simple story that's not too heavy, I present Onidere. Obligatory disclaimer of occasional pantsu fanservice, and relationship issues, and all the other typical crap you've become numb and jaded to from anime and manga. Although, occasionaly things get a bit ins ane: ![]() ... ![]() Available at your favorite online manga site, or just click below: http://www.onemanga.com/Onidere/1/

A great read and I regret not introducing ADTRW to it sooner. Definitely something everyone should give a chance. Also, Mizuki makes for the best gags. EDIT: Coincidentally, 79 is out. http://www.onemanga.com/Onidere/79/ SpazmasterX fucked around with this message at Nov 07, 2009 around 05:22 |

At first I didn't think the premise of this manga would allow it to have as much content as it has had. The situations, while not entirely original, are varied enough to the point where it stays fresh. Just when you think it is getting predictable, there is some new element added that makes if enjoyable. The plot is fairly well developed and multifaceted, the characters are dynamic, and the interplay and relationship evolution between characters surrounding our two protagonists make this a strong read, not to mention hilarious. I heartily endorse this and follow it closely.

Ah, Onidere. One of my personal favorites. The President is what really sold me on following it though. He never fails to amuse.

This is probably the only pure high school love comedy I actually like. I guess good jokes and a lack of angst make all the difference.

I wonder if this will ever get animated, it'd be ridiculously funny.

At first the art struck me as so bad that it was almost painful, but it grew on me as I read the rest of the series so far. It's just got it's own bad charm, like the entire thing.

I noticed this while collecting pics for the OP, but apparently like many other manga, the artwork changes (improves?) as chapters go on. For example: Saya n' gang Chapter 2: ![]() Saya n' gang Chapter 56: ![]() ...okay yea, still pretty bad. But you're right, it's charming in itself.

I always thought the art added to the humor.

I think the art quality gets drastically better over time. I compared this most recent chapter to the images above and immediately noticed a difference. After almost 80 chapters, I would certainly expect the quality to have improved.

The art isn't perfect, no. It is however rather distinctive, and it fits the story very well.

If you want to see the work of a westerner slavishly devoted to anime, perhaps you might try the incredible masterpiece of Noridasu?

Ahem, back to our regularly scheduled bad manga. The saga of the painfully generic story that is somehow entertaining, continues. The new arcs of this story have been what kept this manga fresh, but will it survive this one? http://www.onemanga.com/Onidere/80/ Did the artwork change a lot this chapter? Like, the fat joke was just asking for it until beargirl pointed out the obvious
