Commodore 64 music is a joy. This is not an opinion it is a simple, no nonsense, objective fact. I'm eternally grateful that various emulators, YouTube, Google, etc. have provided me with plenty of hum-along-a-nostalgia, but there is one thing I have been unable to find and it's getting on my tits: The loading music for the C64 version of Commando. I've heard plenty of the in-game music and high score screen (which are great), but I can't locate a single source for the loading screen music. My C64 has long since gone to Silicone Heaven (the dump on Seafield Road) so I can't load it up myself. A little help would be much appreciated... In case anyone hasn't heard the other pieces of music I've referenced, allow me to share the joy: Title Screen/In Game - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrQuR1LHAVI High Score - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWIgNNb4i8U Bonus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qUc...feature=related

can't help eihter I'm afraid. But if somebody can find me the hi-quality sounds from wolfenstein 3D (the original), like that epic sliding door sound, that would be fantastic. I have the game and tried all sorts of things to convert the sounds to WAV or something usefull in this day and age, but I'm not that good with these type of things; Would like to use these sounds in a dj set or something.

Thanks for the replies (I'm afraid I can't help with the Wolfenstein 3D request); I'll keep searching. Many thanks for the Desert Strike nostalgia, too - I had no idea that was Rob Hubbard!

I'm not sure there was a loader tune for Commando? Or at least all the versions I know of didn't have it, they just had some cracktro in which case the music could be anything.

Holy poo poo! After all this time someone casually mentioned the name of the song on the Retro Gamer site! It's an instrumental version of Trans X's 'Living on Video'! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7d9hC0sssqs Not sure if it's the one you found, Nuclear Pizza - I am ham-fisted and unable to get the download to work .Thanks for your help looking into it, guys.

If you're interested in more C64 tunes, look up a player called SidPlay and then search around for the .sid/.psid files which contain music and sometimes sound from Commodore 64 games. People have also composed full songs using the C64 audio routines. e: Lemon64.com is one such place where you can dig up tons of C64 game music.

Since no one has mentioned it yet, have you tried lemon64? It lets you listen to all those sids in your very own browser, and you can download them too!

I think it's known as the "Elite loader" because Elite used the same loader music in several games they released. For example - Ikari Warriors; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXvP2nDaKkk Edit: Here's an MP3 recording from SOASC: http://ftp.df.lth.se/pub/media/soas...der_T01.sid.mp3 firehawk fucked around with this message at Nov 15, 2009 around 22:12 |

It doesn't get any better than Hubbard's Skate or Die intro.
