merk, your WAR score on the poker forums is going to be really low! I like how if you use a "gimmick" you'll be banned from any future games... they seems to play a whole different level of Mafia/WW over there.

I'm in three or four games now. When I'm only in one game I will launch Instant Runoff Mafia for 15 players. I hope to provide a good time to all. If any experienced mods want to look over the setup I'd be happy for an extra set of eyes to see what I do not.

I'm going to be running a game of mafia at a party tomorrow, but I'd like some advice on the best way to do this if there's a large number of players. Is it possible to do a newbie friendly 13 player mafia game, or should I just limit the players to 9 and have the rest as spectators? If I had 14 people I'd probably do two consecutive 7 player games (which might be possible if I have my sister GM the second game and I play in that). This is the first time I've ever run a game where literally everyone will be playing for the very first time, so I'm also sort of worried that come day 1 everyone's going to be looking at me wondering how to start. Do you think I should give them advice on day 1 tactics (random FOSing and such)?

C: Strategy-wise, real Mafia hinges on knowing the other players and less on logic and megaposting. As scum, try to make a guy choose between, say, his girlfriend and someone else in LYLO.

Yeah, whatever you do don't try and explain any "strategy." Mafia's pretty straight forward and its way more fun when people start figuring out their own strategy organically.

The Betrayer posted:A: One large game. Ultimately we had only 9 people so I ran 2 scum cop and doctor and people enjoyed it so much we played three times! The games were pretty quick but given my previous experience of trying to get my family into boardgaming (it was like pulling teeth and I gave up) I was very self-conscious that the whole thing would crash and burn so it was a very uplifting feeling to hear people say "can we play again!?" as soon as the first game ended. The second game produced a fun counterpoint to C. My sister's boyfriend, who was the doctor, protected her every night (I didn't want to set rules on doctor protections until the players realised why they would be good rules) up to LYLO whereupon he became convinced that my sister was the scum. He began talking resignedly of the fact that she was the scum and that he had let her coast through the whole game without doing his job of protecting others, leading to her dropping a vote on him and the scum player joining in for the only scum victory of the night. After that we agreed that the doctor should not protect the same person two nights in a row and a good thing too because in between we started talking about different variants and the players agreed that they wanted to try a Night 0 variant where the mafia make a kill and the cop gets an investigation before the game starts. The cop hit scum and made a day 1 claim of that fact, asking the doctor to protect her that night while she got one more investigation off, so the players had sussed out follow the cop by game three, which I felt was rather impressive--despite the fact that this is the only time I've run a face to face mafia for newbies and therefore have no experience to base this on. But overall it was an awesome night, face-to-face mafia is a very different beast and something I can't wait to try again.

Yeah well Everyone is Dick was not diqnol's fault. It was a combination of apathy, amnistar's plan and me claiming something then changing what I claimed after the fact that led town to such a stupid loss.
