Hey mafia buddies. I've played six games here now. I've pretty much come to the realization that I'm terrible as scum after losing the last two game as scum (and my first game as scum the scum won but no thanks to me). I think it's because I like actually trying to catch scum as town and when you're the scum it's a lot more of a waiting game and you post what you're expected to post and you know what's happening and it becomes a chore. Sort of like watching a movie you've already seen. So, what can you do to enjoy playing scum?

Being purposefully scummy is a difficult task that blah blah blah I dunno, I guess my point is that if you don't scum hunt on day 1, someone else has to scum hunt on day 1. If nobody scum hunted day 1, then day 2 would be exactly the same as day 1 and so on. It's social loafing, and it also means you expect to receive a free pass for essentially acting the same way day 1 as scum would.

If I'm on a scum team with Merk, let's say, then I would tell him to bus the poo poo out of me because he's better at scum than I am and if he pushes for my lynch and can get me lynched, it's instant townie cred for him. I guess it's about recognizing your importance. Team win and all that.

So, I was thinking, I see soru did Dark Tower Mafia, which is excellent. Great series (up to Wolves of the Calla). And I'm a big Stephen King fan. Okay so what I'm going to do is scrap my previous announcement of R&R Hall of Fame Mafia, in favor of something a bit more exciting. The Stand Mafia. A game for 26 players. I'll need to hook up with my book to write the flavor (and obviously it's not coming any time soon - queue and all that), but I figure I could put it out there that I want to run it and see what people think of the idea. Thanks Sava! I loved everything about the game except the fact that I was scum in it, so don't take this as a criticism of your modding. Although I do wish I had picked someone who had a PR I could actually do. But you are a great mod I'll jump at a chance to play in one of your games again. ![]() lovely Wok, I'm not sure I agree. When you get to the point you've got the other side bent over a barrel the game is pretty much over. I like the buildup more as town and learning something more each day and going back over it all again to see what makes sense and what doesn't with what you've learned more ... which I think is the problem with scum you don't get that progression, you know about as much at the end of the game as you did at the beginning. And busb/Xythar ... well I'll say more when the game is officially over. King of Bleh. Gooood idea.

The only time I have really had to experience being scum was in Answering Question Mafia, which was 12 vanilla townies and 1 cult recruiter (winvirus...), who was answering everyone's questions under the guise of the mod. He recruited me N1 and Tagov N2... and then that son of a bitch suicided. Said it would be funnier seeing me and Tagov try to work our way out of it. Somehow we won but I do remember feeling really paranoid about being found out. I guess I sort of equate being scum to how Matt Damon or Leo DiCaprio felt in the Departed.

I enjoy town overall a lot more than scum. Actually scum hunting is the fun part of mafia for me, trying to fit in and getting all stressed out when pressure gets on you isn't nearly as enjoyable. Best case scenario though, I'm a town mason. God I love being a town mason, it's all the fun of being town with all the fun of being able to talk to people OOT. Keeps me a lot more interested in the game as well.
