I've got a request, does anyone have a copy of Melee Beats' Triumph or specifically his song Ordinary (SMS to God) sitting around they could share?

As he's an old goon I'm guessing somebody here might have it, it's so far proven too hard for me to track down online (probably as my google-fu is terrible).

HANSEN ON A BREAKAWAY

HONEY BADGER DON'T SCORE
Okay hi another thread directed me here.

I really like this song

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lRRBeGRTpdc

I know I prefer female vocalists, I like how it's clubby but also has a hip-hop influence (I really like hip hop with good rhythm like Doomtree) and I think I like how it sounds like there are horns (I think they are synthetic horns). I also like some generic pop/dance just to let you know I don't find that off putting or whatever.

Is this trap? I found it in a Google play music playlist labeled trap but I didn't much care for the other songs in it (some were okay but not great except for the one which sampled Requiem for a dream).

So yea, recs for music similar to this or even info on it so I can search it out myself better?

the unabonger

I would say that Hula Hoop is in a weird genre called labeled future bass. Future bass is basically a label for music that has a prominent bass line, but doesn't really fit into other genres. You're gonna have the best luck looking for similar music if you search for future bass.

As far as similar music, I've got some recs:

Cashmere Cat:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be-LbSaEzZQ
Cashmere Cat is kind of a figurehead for Future Bass, his production style is emulated by a ton of people

Lido:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_WeBcBeuWU
Lido is pretty fascinating, and his few live shows have been pretty interesting to watch. He's pretty heavily influenced by R&B, and his EP with Santell is everything. He also has a Jersey Club alternate identity called Trippy Turtle who is another artist you should check out

813:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKgp_OYOSx0
813's production is super cheesy, often has horns, usually pretty bouncy, which it seems like you wont mind.

Wave Racer:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PSFQj55OjI
Wave Racer is cheesy and poppy as hell, like sampling Yoshi's noises from Smash Bros. cheesy...

GANZ:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEgFvAQN_WQ
GANZ is pretty fun, his flips are usually solid production and pretty fun.

Flume:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ATu1BiOPZA
Flume is lovely, but hasn't done much recently it seems. His album is quite nice though, I recommend you taking a listen.

Sinjin Hawke:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XWWvOgLpxA
Generally his productions are a little more on the techno side but are outstanding. His productions are also generally pretty horn heavy.

Nadus:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2yqS7V5j-M
Dude's more towards the Jersey end of the spectrum. His Broke City EP is pretty drat nice.

DJ Yolo Bear:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXhAs38JI7Q
Yolo Bear is a couple artists from the LuckyMe Label working together on an outlet for their Jersey Club sound

Also, check out the Moving Castle Collective and Flirtini, they've put out a few free compilation albums that will help you find more of what you're looking for.

For me, it's got to buzz LOUD and pound HARD, and if it's got HOOVER, all the better!

Quadrophonia - Quadrophonia
Plexus - The Cactus Is Saved!
Tune Request - Destroyer
Digital Boy - Rave Situation
T.Vee - U Are A Sucker
T99 - Nocturne
Rave Crusader - Energy Overload

Plus, another one I that happened upon just this week:

I made a playlist of some of the catchiest anthems from that era:

I also recently picked up 2 Unlimited's greatest hits album. Their style truly is a defining one of the time:

You would have loved the 90s as an adult, that last video is so spot-on.

Anyhow, here's a few more you might like.

The Shamen were around in the 90s, and I always sort of associated them with The Prodigy:
The Shamen - Impossible

I remember this song because of the long intro before it got good. Early example of "the drop" I guess.
Out of the Ordinary - Der Weisse High

Here are some other tunes from my early 90s CD collection, maybe new to you:

2nd Funk-Tion - Gonna Be Alright
The Grid - Swamp Thing
Zero Ph - Can't Wait Tonight
The Curse - All Systems Are Go
Angel Ice - Je N'Aime Que Toi
Setup System - Fairy Dust
Oochie Coochie Cartoon Club - Pin-Ochio
R.T.Z. - Dance Your rear end Off

This is fun, I hadn't listened to some of these in years.

Yeah Pin-Ochio is just one of those tunes I hadn't heard in forever and had to add for nostalgia's sake. Here's a few more.

Cubic 22 - Night in Motion https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1bfSG8v0j8

Pink Stanly Ford - A New Style Baby https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RKRT-w3j2o
Gener8 - Unity https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6a8EBwzVLs

In one of your posts you mentioned 2 Unlimited and KLF. There were a few lesser-known groups that produced similar music such as Captain Hollywood Project, Culture Beat, Real McCoy, Snap, and Black Box to name a few. You might check them out if you haven't already.

It was kind of a passing fad at the beginning of the 2010s, I think. I enjoyed it a lot, along with all those artists, and I enjoy the new stuff they're all coming out with, but yeah, no one's really doing that anymore. Vaporwave's the new hotness.

Ah drat. That's more or less what I expected to hear. I'm into some vapor but the harder stuff like Mac Plus is definitely not "chill", and a lot of the more retrowave-y artists are forgettable imo, unless you're thinking of a few?

Awake (along with Dive) is like my go-to calm down album. If I'm ever feeling stressed, I put on that album and immediately feel better, even if it's just for the duration of that album.

I listened to the remix album and I didn't really feel like any of the remixes improve on the originals, though some of them have some interesting things going on in them. Most of the remixes give the tracks they're remixing a more energetic feel to them. This was probably my favorite of the bunch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFxLen9_sk8

I think the remix album was a neat little experiment but it's definitely not going to replace Awake as one of my favorite albums or anything.

Nice, I checked my google play music subscription and it is on there, I'll give it a listen.

One thing I really like about these streaming services is music discovery (I'm sure spotify has a similar thing to google's, rdio did).. I usually just make a "radio station" based on Tycho and find a lot of new (to me) interesting stuff. Kodomo, for example. I also really got into Chrome Sparks this way too. His "Marijuana" track is one I like to zone out to.

That sample of the Idris Muhammed track is so good, love it in Jamie xx's "Loud Places" too

To me the album had the same problem that Mark Knight's album did--there's just not a ton on there for dedicated fans who have been buying all of his singles over the years. With that being said, I've been waiting for track 3, collider, since he first debuted it on his old radio show in like 2013 so that at least makes me happy. I was really excited for two debut albums from two absolute titans of progressive house to come out within a couple weeks of one another but was a little bummed to be already familiar with 90% of the material.

Yes.
So I just came across this duo called Dance With the Dead and they instantly became my new favourite thing in synthwave. I do like the genre overall but a lot of it does really blend together just repeating the same tropes.

What these guys do differently is that their songs aren't purly based on the synths, but also some sweet electric guitar backing and leads, so it's kinda like 2/3 synthwave and 1/3 80s butt rock. Or maybe 3/4 and 1/4. It varies from track to track. But anyways, it's a fun mix and most importantly this stuff is catchy as all loving get-out.

I've been hopelessly hooked on their album Near Dark for a couple days now. Their other stuff is good too - especially their latest one, The Shape - but Near Dark is just, god drat it's so good.

http://dancewiththedead.bandcamp.com/album/near-dark

This will definitely tide me over while I wait for the upcoming Perturbator album, and then some.
