I'm looking for as much of this kind of hard, early 90's EDM as I can get my hands on: 2 Unlimited - Twilight Zone 2 Unlimited - No Limit Human Resource - Dominator Program 2 Beltram - The Omen (Psycho Mix) The Immortals - Techno-Syndrome (Mortal Kombat) L.A. Style - James Brown Is Dead L.A. Style - L.A. Style Theme Altern 8 - Activ-8 Channel X - Rave The Rhythm Rhythm Device - Acid Rock 2K (The KLF) - gently caress The Millennium 290 - Paranoia Survivor Max Ishkur's Guide labels it as "Anthem House", "New Beat", and "Rave", for what it's worth...

K, I went through HJB's suggestion, and found two good tracks I hadn't heard before: Quadrophonia - Quadrophonia Awesome 3 - Don't Go As for Boywunda's playlist, there are a few decent cuts in there, but most of it's too modern/polished for my taste. I really love the more primal stuff from the late 80's early 90's. A rare recent example is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InZhKcCPPi0 A bit sparse, though...needs hoover! P.S. Just found a whole album of the kind of stuff I'm looking for, from DDR contributor TaQ (on the trancey side, though).

GTO posted:U.S.U.R.A. - Open Your Mind [Official Video]: https://youtu.be/TPFAYIr8z2I This, along with most of 28 Gun Bad Boy's suggestions, although good tunes, are simply too soft for my liking. Feel free to insult my low-brow tastes, but I'm looking for the chanting, hoovered-up, hands-in-the-air, Jock Jams side of Hardcore/Rave, more in the direction of Hardstyle than any of the mentioned piano ballads. This, with more energy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HtyF0jux2Q In fact (if it's within the scope of this thread), I could certainly tolerate some Hardstyle suggestions. It has to be catchy though - something you can hum along to, not merely a nonstop beat with chainsaws on top, like I hear in all the newer Hardstyle mixes... P.S. Regarding Ishkur's Guide, I certainly don't depend on it for any kind of accuracy, but I've found it to be a pretty good starting point.

Here are a few of my favorites for those into historical stuff: Thanks for the suggestions! All new to me except for the Praga Khan, and pretty good too, if a bit soft by my standards. For me, it's got to buzz LOUD and pound HARD, and if it's got HOOVER, all the better! I posted more examples after those. Here they are again if you haven't seen them: Quadrophonia - Quadrophonia Plexus - The Cactus Is Saved! Tune Request - Destroyer Digital Boy - Rave Situation T.Vee - U Are A Sucker T99 - Nocturne Rave Crusader - Energy Overload Plus, another one I that happened upon just this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bgW6i-AqPM I made a playlist of some of the catchiest anthems from that era: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuCwCcvRTm7Eo2m3zXf5eIc3Hnfo6yhjZ I also recently picked up 2 Unlimited's greatest hits album. Loaf30 posted:In one of your posts you mentioned 2 Unlimited and KLF. There were a few lesser-known groups that produced similar music such as Captain Hollywood Project, Culture Beat, Real McCoy, Snap, and Black Box to name a few. You might check them out if you haven't already. Gener8 - Unity is EXACTLY the stuff I'm looking for. Serious f'n rave! Also, everybody knows about Snap! and Black Box, though they're more regular dance music than rave: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDzbj9Nuf30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzEeYFieoYU And as for The KLF, their earliest stuff is their best stuff: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VT7lwdui4HY

FWIW, I updated my hardcore rave playlist with a couple tracks from this thread, plus longer/better quality versions of a couple existing songs. I've plumbed the depths of Discogs/YouTube/Ishkur's Guide over the past couple of years, and this playlist reflects the most intense/catchiest/most iconic rave anthems of the early 90's: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLuCwCcvRTm7Eo2m3zXf5eIc3Hnfo6yhjZ Of course, even more in this exact style would be most welcome! Check back a few pages for stuff already suggested, though. Also, a great mix from '93: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQtSJE_NLYo

Just put together another playlist of classic hardcore rave tunes (my original playlist for those that missed it). This stuff can be a touch cheesy at times, but it's SOO good to just let loose to. A shame it died so fast after 1992. The only recent real rave tune I've come across is The Prodigy's throwback "Take Me To The Hospital". EDIT: Added another to the new playlist. EDIT 2: Found one more! Synthetic Hermit fucked around with this message at 09:25 on Jul 12, 2017 |
