Broken Loose posted:Also Library is pretty underrated. By who? At worst it's a better play than a Smithy and if you can get some cards out of your hand first it's even better. There are totally times you wouldn't want to buy it but that's true of any card.

Poopy Palpy posted:Smithy also costs 4. This is part of what makes Smithy the best card. But anything that is an action is a dead draw without +actions, which sucks. Courtyard costs 2 and allows you to stash a card for the next turn. I know it's meant to be a drawback but it works in my favor more often than not.

In the highly hypothetical situation that you removed most copper from your deck and only have Silvers and Golds (or ideally just Golds) and you don't have any other actions apart from whatever you used to remove the coppers, it's an action that will give 4-6 coins and help you tear past any Victory cards or the now-dead Trash card that's in the way. So practically, Adventurer is not worth getting unless you build a deck around making it work.

Would Adventurer become broken if it were cost 5?

Poopy Palpy posted:I've seen Swindler nuke a Province. What happened? Did it hit more than one and end the game that way? I don't think Swindler is anywhere near as bad as Saboteur just for the fact that it can't (or can rarely) kill Provinces. I've had fun turning Coppers into Curses but I actually haven't really found it to be all that damaging to my opponents overall. Maybe I'm just getting unlucky on what I hit or am not understanding how to fully utilize it though. Countblanc posted:(Fishing Village, for example, is just much better than retro Village [4 cost is hardly worse than 3]). Fishing Village only costs 3 anyhow. I haven't had the pleasure of playing with Ghost Ship yet (it just never comes up) and Sea Hag is rarely used due to it being a dead end that only hurts others (and most people in my group find it more fun to boost themselves rather than hurt others (even though hurting others can help you)).

I've tried it twice - once in a game that intentionally had no attacks and the Black Market deck was one copy of each attack and once as intended. The first time only one person used it and snagged a couple of attacks but it didn't matter. The second time no one even bought it.

I was disappointed that they used the same insert instead of designing a new one for Seaside too (or at least labeling the slots differently so that the big cards can fit in when everything is filed where it says it should be). Overall the Seaside components are great quality though - those metal coins are awesome. Would you rather have wooden cubes? Heh, maybe you'd like Agricola.

The "starter" deck from base is great for teaching, but post that I'd just go ahead and throw at least Intrigue into the mix. Maybe go through the suggested card setups in all three sets and then just go ahead and play with randomized supplies. I've found the learning curve to be pretty low (which is one of the reasons I love the game).

Honestly, I find the most annoying thing about Torturer being the +3 cards given to the person who uses it. It can be annoying to be tortured 3 times in a row in a 4-player game, but it's no worse than a Witch that you can sometimes avoid or plan for since the Curse goes into your hand. I think the most important thing about the nastier attacks is to have one or two ways to deal with them, even if it's just one of the defensive cards. I love Secret Chamber - in a 5 player game where 3 people were playing Pirate Ships, I cleaned up by constantly being able to use the Chambers to move coins into my hand and force victory cards to be discarded. I would too but it's still better than just sitting there letting them embargo your Duchies without penalty.

It's also fun to have a card that is a counter to the attacks that isn't a designated anti-attack card - Library is an obvious example for Militia and Torturer; Steward is a good one for anything that shits up your deck with Curses or other garbage.

I used the cheap ones from Mayfair games and they fit okay with a few corrections. I pull 28 Coppers out and put them in the middle and then put the Coppers where the Silvers should be and the Silvers where the Coppers should be. Then I pull 12 Estates out and add them to the Coppers in the middle - this is not necessary but then you have the starter decks ready to go. I can't take credit for this idea - I read it somewhere either here or on BGG.

Ahahahahahaha I can't stop laughing at how stupid those comics are...someone took the time to do that? e: Apropos of nothing (apart from that I just looked at his terrible comic about Woodcutter) does anyone else have friends that look at Woodcutter and gasp, and say, "Wait a second, why would you ever buy Silver instead of this?" I have a friend who does this pretty much every time we play...he's been playing the game with me since the first time I played. e2: http://dominion.diehrstraits.com/co...ionComix003.PNG what the gently caress is this one even referring to Luce fucked around with this message at Dec 31, 2009 around 03:57 |

Has anyone had any luck with Native Village? It seems like a cool card and I really like it in theory but it just seems too random to really incorporate into any kind of strategy and trying to set up combos with it seems to be a waste of time.

I've only used BSW to play Tichu. It usually goes like this: Me: "Wow, a hand with 4 Aces, 4 Kings, and the 1 and the Dragon. This'll be sweet." Partner: *calls Tichu while holding three 2s and the dog*

I think the general complaint about some (but not all) attacks are that they make the game unfun not because of what they do but because what they do makes the game last so much longer. Most people hate Thief not because it irks them to get their poo poo stolen (though it does) but because it drags the game out so loving much sometimes. Saboteur is loving retarded though.
