Pretty much - up until the Windows phones came out I never saw their S60 handsets available, just their S40 lineup (Canada). I had to import all of mine up until my 920.

I guess this is a good deal for Nokia, at least on the short term. They get rid of the part that's been causing problems for a good chunk of cash and still keep profitable parts like NSN.

Ericsson did the same thing few years ago as Nokia did today. What I have heard they aren't doing that bad.

They never took CDMA very seriously and that hurt them here. Even in the AMPS days, they were the off-brand that nobody heard of, and everyone wanted Motorolas.

Worst case scenario.
A lot of it was the carrier cartels in North America keeping data rates very expensive, which hurt the adoption of smartphones at a time when Nokia was killing it with great phones like the N95. Whether you love or hate the iPhone, one thing it did was break the North American data market wide open, especially in Canada where even 4MB (yes, MB) of data per month was ridiculously expensive. That plus the lack of NA GSM frequencies in their phones.

This is just weepy anti-Microsoft crap. If you think MORE Symbian phones or Symbian based Lumia's would've taken the world by storm, well, I have a bridge to sell you. When Samsung dropped Symbian in 2010 to go their own way with Android, it was already a sign of the end. Microsoft's involvement is the symptom, not the cause.

After a year of using Windows Phone, I'm diving back into Symbian (my ancient N8) since I miss a lot of the features. Camera still seems better.

Dark times. Wish me luck :toot:

I have no idea why I'm awake, but it's 4 past the hour and this music is making me fall asleep. Is Nokia really done this time? Did they not show up?

Asha has some nice camera swipe features. The 3G one is $100.

Nokia Camera unites Lumia camera apps

Vine and Instagram on the way

Lumia 1520 has an SD slot ($729)

Nokia Beamer can share your screen with phones like the new Lumia 1320 ($339)

Lumia 2520 tablet has disaster written all over it.
Low specs on the camera. Windows RT 8.1
$500 + $150 for the keyboard

Frozen stream. grr

This is probably going to be a long shot... but I recently acquired a Nokia 808 developer phone, is there hope of ever converting it to an Android/Windows Phone? From what I can Google, there's no current mentions of unlocked bootloader being released, but I'm half hoping someone in this thread knows something to prove me wrong.

I wish I could put this phone to some good use with a bigger selection of Apps; the camera is just so good to go to waste.

Recedite, plebes!
Hey guys - I just picked up at Lumia 1520 and something is wrong with the screen. Every so often it will twitch or jump a little, then go back to normal. It only happens for a split second, is not app specific and doesn't seem to be a problem that apps can detect - they all run without complaint. Has anyone seen this type of thing before? Its a bit hard to describe, sorry. It's like its scrolling down for a millimeter then going back, on its own. Gonna try to replace it at the store here tommorrow, anyhow.

Is there a thread about Symbian specifically? A coworker of mine just told me about it and it looks like literally everything I could ever want in a smart phone, but it also looks like it is really dead. What's going on here?

It's really, really dead. I love everything about my old N8, but after using a modern phone it's practically unusable. I never care about the apps, but everything about the UI is just clunky compared to modern phones.

I know. NOW what are people who clone phones going to use now that they can't use NCKIA or NOKlA?

I like the Nokia font / logo; I'm hoping this doesn't change their build quality, but I've a feeling I'll do a small upgrade to the 930 and hope that phone lasts me for a long while. Aside from a three year period where I used Sony-Ericsson phones, I've always used Nokias and it feels weird to know my next phone won't be a "real" Nokia.

Or I could just be an adult and suck it up and not be sentimental about what brand name is etched into my cellphone.
