http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/united-say-they-will-meet-new-uefa-spending-criteria-1983730.html

quote:

Manchester United insist they will pass Uefa's new "financial fair play" test, which is set to become part of European football's rules today.

Under the regulations, clubs in European competition will only be allowed to spend what they earn – although some leeway will be given for the first six years of the scheme. Clubs will also still be permitted to have large debts, but only if they can service the interest payments as part of their overall spending.

United claim they would pass the test, despite payments of £45m annually to service interest on the owners' £507m bond scheme. A club spokesman said: "We support the financial fair play measures. We are confident that we pass them and that we will continue to do so."

The new scheme will come into effect in 2012, although some early flexibility is afforded. Initially, clubs must not return losses of more than €45m (£38m) for the 2012-15 period. After 2015, clubs are given a leeway of €30m (£26m) for three-year losses after which it will be reduced further.

I havent looked a great deal into the new Financial fair play system though its obviously going to start getting more and more press over the next 12 months, does anyone have an idiots guide to it?

Ive looked up a bit bon it to find more

The Guardian says

quote:

Uefa will also seek to prevent owners bypassing the rules by means such as sponsorship. All deals will be market-tested for fair value, a move that might be noted at City, who this week announced a deal with the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority.

Which would mean the suggestion of just getting owners to put money in through sponsorship wouldnt work.

In a seperate article they also said

quote:

In 2008-09, the most recent year for which the Premier League's 20 clubs' accounts are published, 14 made substantial losses. One other, Blackburn Rovers, made a £3.6m profit but were subsidised with a £5m loan from the club's owners, which will no longer be permitted.

But dont state which 14 clubs, but mention that Fulham, Villa, Sunderland and Liverpool all had big investment from their owners which wouldnt be covered in the financial fair play scheme.

Heres a link to the Uefa sites financial fair play scheme on their website

No, Uefa.

And its measures in place to stop clubs circumventing the rules in order to make sure we dont have any more clubs overspending and driving themselves into financial hardships if they dont get the success on the pitch, its hardly the worse thing ever.

Just got an email from "Manchester United" entitled "Season Tickets & One United Membership 2010 / 2011". Thought I'd check it out to see how much One United would cost next year.

Its from the Love United Hate Glazer group, theyve registered https://www.manuttd.com and are using it to send fake emails to put people off renewing their memberships. Comes off as a bit desperate, they are appealing not only for people not to renew, but not sign up, or upgrade to a season ticket if they havent got one.

Theyve stopped talking so much about the Red Knights too, only one mention that they are the fans prefered buyers. Word on the streets is that theres not going to be a bid, and if there is it'll only be to save face and they dont expect it to be accepted.

Shocking developments!

quote:

The Red Knights group of wealthy supporters mulling a takeover of Manchester United has shelved plans to make a bid for the club.

The group said media speculation of "inflated valuation aspirations" had hampered its plans.

It added that it had always maintained it would only pay a sensible price for Manchester United.

Last week, United reiterated it was not for sale and that the Glazer family owners would not listen to offers.

The Glazer family bought Manchester United for £800m in 2005.

The Red Knights group includes the former Football League chairman Keith Harris and Goldman Sachs chief economist Jim O'Neill.

Apparently they will make a bid at a later date when the price is right.

When I signed up to the MUST campaign I also did one of those "send an email to your local counciller" things they were plugging at the time, which sent an email to all local candidates about bringing in measures for football teams. I sent this to see what I would get, and I got an email reply from Hazel Blears asking for my address. The trouble in what way? Ferguson would be out of a job instantly.

I understand your second part, but the Glazers already had 30% of the club at this point and were always looking to take over. While the Rock of Gibralter situation made it happen quicker, it was innevitable I believe.

Maybe if he was younger, he would have. But this is his final job in football, and its his team, his legacy. Whatever is happening behind the scenes its still going to be difficult for him to walk away.

His argument over the horse didnt help, but John Magnier and J. P. McManus were never invested in football for the long term and were there partly because of their friendship with Ferguson and partly because of the opportunity to make some money. The Glazers were buying into the club from 2003, gradually increasing their stake till they were at 28% before they purchased from the Irish which took them over the 30% limit where they had to launch a takeover bid. They had actually started investigating a possible takeover of the club since early 2004.

Dont forget when the fallout happened between them the Irish also started trying to force Ferguson out of the job, they refused to authorise anything other than a 12 month contract for him, and tried to start investigations into all the clubs transfer dealings since Fergie joined, until he agreed to drop his claim and accepted a payment from them.

Wasn't the 12 month contract thing to stop the same thing happening that happened in 01/02, where the players didn't perform because they knew he was leaving, with results only picking up once he had signed on? This way, there doesn't need to be any speculation over him signing a new contract until after the season's over.

Surely a 12 month contract leaves more speculation he's going to leave? He was asking for a 2 year deal and the Irish blocked it.

A few weeks ago a list that was supposed to be the exec members list for Man Utd was printed on some website. Apparently it was to gain attention for these members to reconsider renewing until the Red Knights make a bid.

I come into work this morning and the front of our building has been plastered with Love United Hate Glazer stickers. At least 20 of them.

What a bunch of idiots, they have the full address listings there but rather than send a letter out to the company about it, they decide the best thing to do is paste stickers on the outside of the building.

If anyone knows of the website where this is being organised please let me know so I can call them cunts.

Sportswear giant Adidas has signed a £750m deal to make Manchester United's kit for 10 years from next season.

It comes after US rivals Nike decided to end their association at the end of the coming 2014-15 season.

Nike have been paying United £23.5m a year, and the new deal is worth a world record-breaking £75m a season to the Old Trafford club.

Champions League winner Real Madrid's £31m-a-year deal with Adidas was previously the biggest club deal.

Adidas will provide training and playing kit to all of the club's teams. In addition, it will have the exclusive right to distribute dual-branded merchandising products worldwide.

The huge sum involved is only £40m less than the Glazer family paid for club in 2005.
