![]() Click here for the full 1600x1200 image. loving tribute done by Nidpants Two years ago, a creature named "Space Kimchi" started what he called the "Mallard Fillmore megathread" to discuss Bruce Tinsley's Mallard Fillmore, an unfunny comic strip about a color-changing conservative journalist duck. While Mallard Fillmore was indeed really terrible, nobody really liked Space Kimchi too much, so people made fun of him for about 50 pages before eventually turning back to the intended focus. People were horrified with what they discovered perusing the archives of Fillmore. Unfortunately, this led others to think "what are other political cartoonists putting out there?" and Mallard Fillmore is now seen as one of, if not the most, vanilla and least offensive conservative strips in national syndication. It's pretty hard for "lazy teachers' unions! Mine never gave me answers to math questions NOT in the back of the book" to compare to Barack Obama standing in a dumpster full of dead fetuses, beating the pile with a baseball bat. Or to Rush Limbaugh replacing the black girl in Norman Rockwell's iconic capture of America in times of desegregation, with the National Guard armband replaced by one sporting the words "TRUE RACISM" - simply because Limbaugh was denied the opportunity to buy an NFL team. For a taste of the terrible, here's what one regular contributor considers to be the worst 10 cartoons of 2009. As time has progressed, our denizens have discovered even more reprehensible artists from various different backgrounds and levels of syndication. For this reason, this thread's structure differs slightly from that of the old one. This first post will feature artists that are nationally syndicated. This means these artists receive the largest audience, and unfortunately, these artists usually are responsible for what are considered to be the most disgusting images ever posted in the thread. These are all things you can find in your local newspaper, as their work is published nationwide. The second post will feature artists that thankfully do not reach as many people, but still deserve attention. These works, Diversity Lane and that of Erin Bonsteel in particular, highlight politics that are little more than reactionary - focused more on hate than they are tangible issues, unless "Al Gore is stupid and liberals are racist misanthropes with a particular disdain for Good White Men" can be considered legitimate cause for your political soapbox. These are only seen online, and some don't get much reach outside of their own websites. Others, like Brett Noel's gleeful adventures concerning the misery of his political opponents and the fever dreams of BAR BEE, receive some kind of limited syndication in local newspapers. The third post contains a few of the very rare "Good Cartoonists." For the purposes of this thread, good cartoonist means "non-reprehensible views coupled with an acceptable cartooning skill." Past threads have seen many debates praising Gallery of Shame resident Eric Allie for his metaphors and clever imagery, while expressing disappointment with Good Cartoonist Pat Bagley for his wordiness and over-reliance on unnecessary labels. While nobody is perfect, some artists have noticeably more slip-ups than others. To account for this, some less than acceptable strips by otherwise normally good artists will be included at the end of the post. The fourth post will be home to many strips people would often enter the old threads and request, as well as the fantastic original works borne from old threads. To cut down on requests, the beginning of the post will serve as a repository for the most commonly requested strips. The rest will feature what is perhaps what has been the biggest draw of the threads, and what has served to keep many of its regulars sane amidst Chuck Asay's constant bemoaning "Won't anybody think of the White Christians? PS gently caress poors." Some of the content created by thread regulars is original and merely inspired by the general works seen here, while other content is clear parodies of one artist's style, or one particular strip. All of it is phenomenal, and I've tried to include as much of it as possible. Ready? Table of contents
