Papercraft terrain sellers. They've got stuff for sci-fi, modern, fantasy, horror, etc. Ten or so sets per genre. They've even got some stuff you can put together for BFG or other space based games, replacement boards for Space Hulk, etc.

Definitely getting some of this for Infinity when the time comes.

Here's a youtube of them putting some together, using a fantasy set.

Edit: And here is a video of using their custom terrain creation software so you can design your own boards.

FFFFFFFUUUUU

So you print the stuff off yourself, but what's up with the first video there? It seems like he's put the terrain tiles he's printed out onto something that he's using to connect the sections. Is that a physical product you have to buy or do you have to print out and make those too?

You print them out, do some cutting, and mount them to pieces of foamcore you've cut according to templates. Then you make little foamcore tabs to join them together. It's a bit time consuming but it's actually really easy.

Ahhh. I take it the stuff comes with plans for the foamcore when you buy it, then?

Hey guys, does anyone have any good "boyfriend" games? He pretty much just likes Risk and found Twilight Imperium really boring and confusing.

Actually that's a pretty good question. A lot of dudes are drawn to more visceral-style games when being introduced to board games (you sexist gently caress), so games that focus more on interactions between players via direct means like combat/backstabbing/fighting are gonna appeal to them more easily (particularly if they're new and young). Depending on the guy it can be a great stepping stone to getting them into more abstract strategy games and/or cooperative games vs the board.

Yes, I work at my LGS.

Yeah I have Axis and Allies, not really had chance to give it a real go. I've bought the Doom boardgame which I hope will be good.

He's really into his mechs and stuff so I'm thinking of getting some Battletech, are the rules very complex and/or in-depth? How fun are the rules? Is it mostly boring old stats and stuff or are there a lot of fun and simple "actions" you can do?

For comparison, he's okay with current 40k, it's a fairly simple set of rules and most of the units and armies have special abilities they can do.

Try out Risk 2210 with him, all the armies there are various kinds of giant robots with bad rear end humans leading them. Other good ones to try would be Dust (which I really like), or the StarCraft Boardgame. The Doom Boardgame is awesome, no reason why anyone shouldn't like that. Also, I get a kick out of Frag, and they just reprinted it in Gold Edition. Do you guys have an LGS with demo games available?

Plus if everyone you know picks a diff faction and you all buy stuff you can just trade around for things you want

That's about average.

Combined Army will usually have 6-8, Ariadna can push it up to ~15-16 while staying reasonably, er, reasonable (of course, you can always spam 50 6-point warbands with chainrifles but that's just ridiculous).

Ideally, if you can, you'll want to keep it at or under 10 or go to something like 12-16, because you can only have up to ten minis sharing a single order pool (so either a single pool, or two pools with 6-8 minis each - anything less than 6 and you don't really have enough orders in the pool to be flexible with your powerful units).

Dunno what an order pool is, but it sounds awesome! I'm gonna d/l the rules when I get home and give 'em a look over.

Yeah, ariadna are sort of "high skill, low tech",similar to haqqislam.

It looks like a decent list, although you might want to swap a HMG for one of the snipers if possible.

snipers and the autocannon are great on "reaction" (when its the other players turn) and HMGs are better in your own turn than in reaction, so it usually works to have both.

Hmm, that'll be a little difficult due to the SWC points. Why is it that my Lieutenant costs 2 SWC, anyway? Just by virtue of being in charge?

Ansob. posted:

Because you picked a dude from a unit known for not working well with other people. You picked US Army Rangers who are solo operatives used to working behind enemy lines in camo and murdering people, not giving orders and co-ordinating people.

You should pick one of the 0SWC Lieutenant choices instead, as in general they're a much better idea - either cheap and nondescript so the enemy can't easily guess their location, or really tough so the enemy has a hard time killing them (and even the former is preferable to the latter because you want to use your elite troops aggressively). Infiltrator/SpecOps troops like Foxtrots are something you use offensively, not something that hangs back and hides.

(Also I'm AFB and can't be bothered to download the .pdfs right now but I vaguely remember you'd in Loss of Lieutenant if your Lt is a marker - I may be entirely wrong, though.)

Also, your first group doesn't have enough cheerleaders and your second group doesn't have enough muscle. I suggest moving the 3xLK to the first group, using one as a Lt, and putting the Foxtrots into the second group because your Tankhunter is probably going to be camping in a place where he has nice LoS to any passing enemy elites. I'd also dump the LK sniper (terrible BS) and put in more Irmandinhos for delicious chainrifle action.

Yeah I don't really know... the rules yet. Or really any of the terminology for the most part. I was just loving around with the app. What do you mean by cheerleaders though, support guys?

Completely new units used to get released every now and again but nowadays they seem to have gone for the much smarter decision of only releasing new rules with new books. There's a shitload of sculpts they haven't done yet so adding new units isn't necessarily a good thing.

Like I said, I'll be expecting the 101st USAriadna Airborne or something similar in the USAriadna sectorial.
