I'm sorry if this is a completely stupid question, but how do I know if I'm actually experiencing slowdown? I'm playing Mushihimesama, and I'm not always sure if the in-game slowdown (sometimes intentionally/properly present on the PS2) is a result of correct emulation or the inability of my PC to handle it. Will the FPS drop? It seems to be staying at 60, but I don't know what the other things on the title bar mean.

The "FPS" isn't actually the rate the game is running at, but the rate the emulator is running at. The emulator could be running full-speed, but the game framerate not, and you'll still get 60 fps/100% speed. This is what happens sometimes when you have VU Cycle Stealing enabled. I'm not fully sure, but I think it reduces the amount of GPU cycles it emulates, effectively underclocking it, in order to free up your own processor for emulating the main PS2 cpu faster. This makes graphically demanding games run worse, even if the rest of the emulator runs fast. So if you're experiencing lots of in-game slowdown but your displayed FPS is 60 (or 50 for PAL games), then try turning off VU Cycle Stealing. If it still slows down, then the game is just slow. I don't think there's any way to emulate MORE cycles, or an overclocked PS2, yet. shrach posted:I notice your screenshot is 1280x720, what settings are you using in gdsx? Radiata Stories has built-in 16:9 support so I'm setting the GS window to 1280x720 and the scaling was at 2x. I honestly don't know what the scaling or d3d internal res does. Is that just texture scaling, or what? What should they normally be set to?

OK. I don't have any speed hacks on, though... Is there any kind of information that the emulator outputs that lets me know if it's slowing down, apart from the experience of in-game slowdown when lots of stuff is on the screen (I can't determine whether or not that's part of the game or the emulator itself). edit: oh! So if I have no hacks on, the FPS stays at 60, and the EE/GS percentages aren't maxed out or anything, it's just part of the game? I guess the EE/GS are parts of the PS2, though, so if they're maxed out at tough parts and my FPS stays fine then it's still just part of the game. It seems to me that most games run at 512x448 in both 4:3 and 16:9 mode (using rectangular pixels for the latter). Using 3x scaling and gdsx itself (F8) to take snapshots produce 1536x1344 screenshots. By choosing to fix the aspect ratio to 16:9 on the GS window tab and setting it in the game at 16:9 it should look fine when playing. I had a similar problem with vertical lines like those but in shadow of the colossus using a D3D internal res of 1680x1050 (the same as my monitor) and 1680x945 which went away with the 3x scaling instead. Some games still have issues with scaling. Eg: SotC and God of War 2 add a sort of bloom effect that becomes offset when you use scaling. This can be fixed by editing GSdx.ini with allowHacks=1 then on the plugin tab ticking the offset hack box. However if your glitch is game specific, which appears to be the case, you may be out of luck or have to use the native resolution.

Finally got it to load an actual PS2 disc. No idea of how to use the controls at all or how to set up my PS3 controller, but at least I'm half way there.

You would be better off playing the game from an ISO on your hard drive, rather than directly from the disk. Try using ImgBurn for that. It is free, and will do the job well enough. As for the PS3 controller. You need drivers. Use MotionJoy.

You could also use the official leaked SIXAXIS/DualShock 3 signed drivers for x86/x64: http://www.mediafire.com/?dv4pakxgvurn5t1 They seem to have better response times than the MotionJoy drivers.

Wait what??? Official DS3 drivers? Like from Sony? What's supported? Will this "just" work over bluetooth with a ps3 controller? I had a ps3 controller but at the time the support was crap so I never bothered keeping it, but like.. I... I may very well buy one again if this works as intended. Can you provide details?

It works without a bluetooth dongle, just plug it in via USB. Though I'm not sure how "official" they are - they were causing a problem for me where my PC would crash whenever it went to sleep, and I ended up uninstalling them (I'm using Windows 7 64-bit). Aside from that it seems to work perfectly.

I finally got MotionInJoy to work over bluetooth, and it works perfectly! For anyone who wants wireless controllers, this is definitely the way to go. Since the instructions on the site are crap, here's how I did it: 1) If you don't have a bluetooth adapter, buy this one. It could take a while to ship, but it's small and $2. Buy something else while you're at it to make yourself feel better. 2) Download the latest drivers from motioninjoy.com, like the 0.6.0001 drivers you can find here. 3) Uninstall your old attempts at making the drat thing work, including ReadyDriverPlus. Make sure you've uninstalled the driver, hit the uninstall button in the control panel, and manually deleted everything from C:/Program Files. 4) Reboot. 5) Install DS3tool using the installer. Make sure it runs, but don't do anything more. 6) Reboot. 7) Open DS3Tool. It will throw an error, just hit OK. Plug in the BT adaptor you got from DealExtreme and your PS3 controller. 8) Go through the "Driver Manager" link and install the drivers. 9) Reboot. 10) Double check your controller is working over USB. 11) In DS3Tool again, click on "BluetoothPair". 12) Hit the backup button, then the sync button. Wait 30 seconds or so just in case. 13) Hit the "Home" button in DS3tool. Hit the Disconnect button to disconnect from USB. Wait a few seconds for DS3Tool to catch up. 14) Hit the PlayStation button on the controller. Give DS3Tool a few more seconds to come back. 15) Hit the radio button for D-Pad+Sticks, hit enable, and test again. 16) It's actually pretty easy to do, surprisingly. Plus it has a 360 controller emulator, which is pretty neat. Fake Edit: Firefox is telling me "adaptor" isn't a correct spelling. Isn't that the canadian or british spelling?

I searched the thread and didn't see a match for this exact issue, and google isn't of much help either. I've been playing Persona 4 with .9.7.3876 and all the default plugins that it comes with. The game emulates pretty fantastic except for the odd slowdown in big battles and parts of town, likely due to my aging CPU and GPU. That's not related to the issue, though. What I have are flickering items, shadows, textures, etc in parts of the game. It's not very prominent, but it does annoy me. In the drama club, many of the backgrounds items are constantly flickering in and out. It's the same in the library. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it? It's more of an annoyance than anything but more and more scenes are starting to take place in flickering areas. I've tried to switch up the video plugins but I can't seem to fix it. Just for comparison's sake, I'm using D3D9 for the graphics plugin (Gsdx 3693 0.1.16) set at an internal res of 1280x800, no interlacing, with texture filtering, logarithmic z, and alpha correction all enabled. I don't know of any other plugins that would affect that. I've also got a Radeon 4890 video card in case that's the difference. And with this setup, I get a bare minimum of flickering (though shadows are sometimes wonky, but I have no problems dealing with that).

So I got that xbox controller emulator for my logitech rumble pad 2 thingie and it worked well enough but it was pretty picky with games and ended up being a pain to figure out what'd work and what wouldn't. Once it worked, it worked great tho. I eventually got tired of having to do all this crap and went out and got a used xbox360 wired controller and plugged that bastard in. After dicking around for a while to get the logitech one removed completely and the xbox360 one detected properly as a controller in windows I was ready to go. This drat thing will be detected just fine in most modern games with controller support, it works fine for older games and all the emulators work beautifully with it. I.. I dunno why I wasted so much money NOT buying this drat thing instead of getting it from the getgo. Lesson learned. Gaming commencing.

Front mission five has never had freezes though, as far as I am aware. Its big problem was always some graphical garbage. Even then, it was playable. The skipdraw fix looks like it handles some of those problems though. I finished the game a good while ago, when the patch out still didn't have translated base text. That said, thanks again for the builds Gyoru. It is nice to have an up to date version to use.

Did a quick forum search for you here. rama, one of the main programmers, says there's a VIF issue with that particular game during the first cutscene. I have an idea though - try playing to a point where you can save on either a PS2 or PCSX2 0.9.6 then transfer the save to your PCSX2 0.9.7 memory card. If it still freezes at some point then it isn't just that initial cutscene at fault. FM5 is a superior game
