Grabbed an alesis ion for about 450$ on ebay recently. Furthest thing from a noob, I own a Virus KB, an ARP Odyssey, and a Rev. 2 Prophet among a kurzweil ksp8 and other nice things, but I've never demoed one of these. Picked it up because i'm selling my vintage analogs for being vintage analogs and therefore unreliable. I got my prophet for like 200$ at a yard sale. Plan on buying an XoXbox, already grabbed a DSI mopho, recently sold a Korg Triton and a MFB Synth II lite. Wondering how the Ion competes sonically with the Virus. I've seen near universal praise for the thing on Gearslutz.

I just got some money from a land sale and am planning on getting a Voyager and a Future Retro XS . That's about the closest to a modular I'm willing to go at this point.Leaves me with a wicked setup for the hardware I use. Virus KB, Ion, Prophet Five, Mopho, Korg Trinity Rack, Future Retro XS, Moog Voyager. I just love how the mopho sounds for electro style bass and whatnot.

My virus KB died .I'm thinking of just getting a Nord 2x to replace it. Or maybe even a good VCO analog like a Polysix.

Essentially the keybed started having random keys die, and then when I opened it to clean the contacts, it stopped turning on at all. Wish I could just find a damned service manual so I could replace the parts myself, but Access insists on sending it to some expensive rear end tech that lives halfway across the country.

By the way, HotCanadianChick, if you want to pay me for my broken virus, i'm down. You'll be helping me buy a Blofeld or a used Nord Modular to use in it's place. Kind of given up on fixing it and I don't have enough gear to keep a broken synth around.

I agree. I care a lot more about making music than maintaining vintage synths. I sold a rev 2 prophet five without loving hesitation.

HotCanadianChick posted:Heh, that's the same reason my -106 is the only really 'vintage' piece of gear I'm hanging on to for now... it's drat near the only vintage analog with a seriously great, complete, non-buggy MIDI implementation. Hell, even if the VCF chips die on me (and that isn't that big a problem now that people are making new, not-gonna-die-eventually replacement chips), it still makes a great controller, since everything on it sends sysex and CC commands. It's KingNicholai@yahoo.com You could also PM me on the boards if you wanted. I'd be MORE THAN HAPPY to trade cash and my KB for a Nord Modular Rack.

I'd go with an Axiom Pro or a Remote SL. My Remote SL has served me rather well. If you have a good CPU you can really not worry about V/A's like the Viruses and whatnot, even though I have a few. lol. You can get good in-the-box options like Albino and Zebra cheaper and i'm really starting to notice just how much I DON'T need my V/A's and wish I had a Juno again.

HotCanadianChick posted:Oh hey, I missed this. Actually, being the goon in question, i'm sorry I spaced it . I was waiting on some cables I had to order from the UK to come in so I could attempt to fix it again and I had lost your email. The thing's keyboard is completely nonfunctioning, but I think it's simple to fix. The GOOD news is by changing out the cables with brand new ones, it's working fine aside from that and recieves midi. Seeing as the keyboard doesn't even SEND Midi, I'm thinking some kind of connector is hosed up.

spaceship posted:Just ordered an Elektron Machinedrum SPS1 UW MKII w/ +Drive You bastard. I'd be pretty stoked, too. Last thing I got was Nebula and a couple of bundles. Though next on the list for me is probably a Future Retro XS. I'm slowly replacing my outboard synths with versatile, easy to tweak things, and I firmly believe that aside from the Virus TI....that software synthesizers have basically caught up. I have been using ACE, Gladiator, Sylenth, and Omnisphere in the box, alongside a lot of fx plugins i've spent way too much money on. lol. So i'm looking at nice analog hardware now.

I'm selling that virus I was talking about a while back now. I tried to fix it, got the power working, keyboard still fails with new cables. It's a virus KB. 400$+relevant transport poo poo. Just want cash for it so I can immediately buy a hardware or software replacement with my current funds. It works just fine aside from the keyboard. Always wanted an SQ80 actually. Plans for my Mopho are to invest in a new computer and go completely soft, and eventually keep a few analog synths outboard. Namely stuff like the Spectral Audio Neptune and the Future Retro XS, which are a pair of my current favs that I use a lot.
