This game is retarded about height sometimes. Just earlier in a game I got bowled over in a charge and fell probably ten feet. Instakill. No I didn't get incapped or had taken fall damage, I got killed on the spot. It was the first part of The Passing where you exit the building to the three-leveled alleyway. Got knocked off the top of the stairs and down to where the tractor trailer is and that killed me.

Couple of weeks ago in Blood Harvest, I charged someone from the top of the BH3 ramp (the one where the train car knocks down) where one guy fell and died but another guy who flew further and landed on top of a train car survived. I'm guessing because the vertical distance between the top of the ramp and the train car aren't great enough to incap or kill. But regardless, it was still a greater fall than the one I took on The Passing.

I swear L4D is the only game I can love the hell out of but hate for how broken it happens to be.

A hunter comes around the corner, I bash it away, throw the last can down to my team and before it pounced me I decided to jump down. Teams puts in last can, I'm falling, then I get pounced in mid-air and land on top of the car taking no fall damage and surviving. They knock it off and the campaign ends.

It was such dumb luck that I just had to Post About It.

Latency means an unbelievable amount with anything that has direct player-to-player contact. I will have to say though that guys that I play with know how to time punches better than I even with some latency. But in the end, lag still determines whether or not you hit the guy or say "I can't even hit this guy who is right in front of my face!".

I remember hearing that L4D was originally envisioned as an open city that you could find multiple routes through, but they scrapped it because when players found a route that worked they never looked for a new one again. Maybe it has something to do with that?

Probably does. I think that snippet was in the directory commentary for L4D1 where you get to the street level. I wish L4D had death/traffic maps like TF2 maps did. Hardly anyone takes the other path in NM1.

As I've told some other people who've asked my opinion on FtL, I feel it isn't as good as regular scavenge. The biggest element for me is the missing tension since every can gives you 45 seconds on the clock and it isn't like you've got to split up to get different cans or whatever. I'm not sure if my first game of FtL was indicative of how long a game will usually take when two competent teams square off but we had a round that lasted some 8-9 minutes for each side.

I'm not even sure how to make FtL better. I guess even as little as I play scavenge, I still like it a lot better than Follow the Liter.

Also, missing bleed out. I thought it was silly at first but it is actually rather fun just zip zooming through as best as you can. We tried to do a ghetto bleed out last night and didn't use kits. It just isn't the same.

Know what still bothers me about this game? The loving smoker tongue. Why is this thing so loving broken.

The other day I was playing with some buddies on the finale of The Passing. Some pubbie who was smoker had a pull on me and I was boned since I was alone. He had a clear pull on me except that his tongue was over a railing. Not dragging on the railing mind you, it was well over the railing. No zombies around, no other infected, no buddies, just me holding a gas can and the smoker. His tongue breaks before I even hit the railing myself. After I kill him he asks how I broke free. I told him that I'm wondering the same thing myself. Poor guy probably thought I was cheating or something. Even my teammates asked how I broke free.

Last Gnome on Earth seems a little pointless. The inability to throw it around is a good limitation, but I think the game mode would've been cooler if you weren't allowed to drop the gnome for more than 10 seconds at a time (something like the gas can drop rules in Scavenge).

Gotta agree with this and also, our gnome fell through the floor.

Yep the director commentary mentioned this. They found a certain path and only ever used that path. Then they tried dynamic pathing in L4D2 and the testers still couldn't get comfortable with it.

IHM isn't a terrible campaign but I'm in the camp where there should be some kind of guiding hints aside from all the signage and arrows. Valve does a really good job job of dropping those hints.

Are you serious? That's a terrible percentage. Stop playing with scrubs. It isn't hard to beat most reverse stomp teams. I'm not saying I win them all. Just that most reverse stomp teams are a good margin better than your "spawn whenever I want and attack" teams. Of course, you can only step up your game if the team you're playing with knows how to use tactics and poo poo.

If you guys are that concerned about pubs, screen them by checking their Steam profile. Of course those four guys happened to join at the same time and all have private profiles so you can't see that they're friends!

Funny thing is that it took polls to determine that when the L4D community has had a displeasure with the issues since L4D1. At least, for kits.

Jesus loving christ Valve, you did it. You really did it.

Although I am with Swilo on the kit issue in that I don't mind if long maps have a kit or two around to use. It's when survivors can't stop running into kits every ten steps. I'm also not sure if I'm crazy but I've seen kits for one team and pills for the other from the director making some changes. It was on some random server but it was on The Parish 2 inside the bar. They got a kit but we had only gotten pills. This update will rectify that though.

I'm getting tired of getting lovely spawns with the Taaaaaank mutation. It seems pretty consistent that my team will spawn behind the survivors while the opposing team will almost always spawn in front of us. I've been in three consecutive games where my entire team has spawned behind that fence in NM3, while the other team spawns on the roof. It pretty much killed the mutation for me because it's obvious nobody bothered to test the spawn points.

And of course when the opposite team gets stuck in a similar situation they ragequit because 'it isn't fair'.

I think the NM3 fence thing has to do with the distance traveled in the map or something. The last time I played tank, someone on the opposing team started telling his team (alltalk was on) to stay in the open area near the Burger Tank. Sure enough, three of us spawn behind the fence.

Honestly I play TANK! to enjoy. This is a luck of the draw game mode and people who are raging over fairness and trying to win are silly. Thankfully almost every time I've played it, the opposing teams have been very chill and everyone enjoys themselves over alltalk.
