do you remember an offhand joke in the movie Men in Black about the "great attractor"? thought it was an obvious and cute reference to a known intergalactic anomaly? well you're wrong, and DON'T YOU DARE ADD IT TO THE GREAT ATTRACTOR PAGE

quote:

Can we get some more specific information about why Aldaron is repeatedly wiping out the In Fiction content? 66.30.113.23 (talk) 18:08, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Because these sections are intended for cases where the article's topic is actually referenced in the cited work of fiction, not just as a list of every place where the same words happen to be used in a script. — Aldaron • T/C 18:37, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

I'm referring to Men In Black, how do you know they weren't referring to this object? It was a movie about extraterrestrial beings residing on Earth, and the words "great attractor" were referenced in a joke. If they weren't referring to this, what were they talking about? 66.30.113.23 (talk) 04:48, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

They were picking a sciencey-sounding name and applying it to an alien, without regard for what the sciency-sounding name actually meant. I enjoyed the movie, but I agree with removing that reference from the list. --Christopher Thomas (talk) 07:12, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Agreed. The the MiB reference doesn't belong here. — Aldaron • T/C 16:23, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Nonsense. Kay's line in MiB is obviously a humorous reference to the unsolved nature of the scientific phenomenon. And that there has to be a special comment in the article to keep people from adding the reference there shows how many people get this! --Steve Foerster (talk) 19:16, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Get it wrong, you mean. — Aldaron • T/C 01:37, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

What makes you so certain that everyone is wrong except you? Hellbus (talk) 22:55, 26 November 2010 (UTC)

something is wrong, this isn't nearly passive-aggressive enough for wikipe

quote:

<!--
Please do not add the mention of a "Great Attractor" in Men in Black without first finding consensus on the talk page. Current consensus is that, while the same words are used, the entity mentioned in this line of dialogue is otherwise not the same as the astronomical phenomenon discussed in this article.

hey, if Aldaron says it doesn't belong, it doesn't belong. he has serious wiki credentials:

and most importantly, he's been awarded the experienced editor ribbon.

Semen is primarily water, but contains trace amounts of almost every nutrient the human body uses.[citation needed] It has somewhat higher amounts of commonly deficient minerals, such as potassium, magnesium, and selenium.[41] One typical ejaculation contains 150 mg of protein, 11 mg of carbohydrates, 6 mg fat, 3 mg cholesterol, 7% US RDA potassium and 3% US RDA copper and zinc.[42][not in citation given] When metabolized, protein yields 4 kcal/g, carbohydrate also yields 4 kcal/g, and fat yields 9 kcal/g.[43] Hence the food energy in the typical ejaculation is 0.7 kcal (2.9 kJ).

They're like the loving magic brooms in The Sorcerer's Apprentice, you axe one of them and a dozen more appear in its stead.

quote:

Following Goethe's poem and Dukas' symphonic piece and the film Fantasia, the term "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" has had numerous iterations as the title of various media pieces. These include several novels and nonfiction books, including novels by Elspeth Huxley, Hanns Heinz Ewers, and François Augiéras. It is also the title of a Doctor Who novel by Christopher Bulis. Nonfiction books with this title include a travel book by Tahir Shah, and a chess book by David Bronstein and Tom Fürstenberg.

Among the various radio and television episodes with this title, the title is used for a CBBC show in which a professional magician chooses his apprentice. There is also a BBC radio play of the same name starring Paul Rhys and Harry Towb originally broadcast in 2007 and re-broadcast on BBC Radio 7.

The Sorceror's Apprentice, is a 1962 public domain episode of Alfred Hitchcock Presents featuring Brandon De Wilde as mentally-troubled youth Hugo, after the magic wand of a kindly magician.

"Top Secret Apprentice", a segment of the Tiny Toons Adventures episode broadcast on February 1, 1991, is a modern version of the story, with Buster Bunny messing around with Bugs Bunny's cartoon scenery machine and getting himself into a big heap of trouble. Like the Fantasia segment, there is no dialogue.

There is also a live action film, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, featuring a scene based on Goethe's poem (and the Fantasia version), produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and starring Nicolas Cage.
