Just had to post this incredible thing here:![]() http://columbusga.craigslist.org/pet/1794626550.html I've seen a lot of ridiculous chains on dog's necks before but WHAT THE gently caress. I've seriously just been staring at it for like 30 minutes. That poor thing is going to have so many back and shoulder and neck problems. ![]() (Also gator/eli my rear end, it's got a vaguely gator head but that's a stretch and I bet that thing's joke of a pedigree would probably burst into flames if it so much as fluttered in the general direction of an eli or gator dog But seriously, the chains. When I worked at the shelter a few years ago, we got in a pit bull with a chain. Not that big, but it was bolted shut or something and we had to have our Token Shelter Guy remove it. Poor thing

So, Angus and the other Staffies and Pits I've met have completely won me over. I think I'll always have at least one Bully around. Every time there's a pit on the street or the beach I have to go and let it molest my face with its tongue. I keep promising myself that when I get a larger space and Angus is less of a jackass puppy I'll get myself a "full size." How much does it gnaw at my gut to have Wiggle Worm(1/2 way down) practically in my back yard? A whole loving lot. I love that dog and I've never met him. I wish I had the space for him. That's why I've decided to get a modified version of this tattooed on my left leg next month. The hat's got to go but I'm looking to preserve as much of the original image as possible. I'm both excited and nervous about it but I think it's a great way to show my dog's heritage and the respect I have for it. He may be a Staffie but if he doesn't have the working spirit of a pit I'll eat my shirt! If he wasn't only 28 pounds he'd love to go hunting for boar! ![]() (Great, now everyone on PI will recognize me when I wear shorts)

Hey there bully breed thread, got a question. I volunteer at my local humane society, working with rabbits, not dogs. I'm just learning how to. This morning I volunteered with this guy who happily chatted away to me and anyone who would listen about pit bulls while we were grooming the rabbits. Basically he went "Can never train them not to be aggressive, you can never know for sure with those dogs whether they'll maul you, their jaws will lock when they bite down, etc" I'm nervous around dogs, but I've done enough reading to know he was at the very least exaggerating, and it was quite discouraging to find such negative stereotypes in the middle of the Humane Society. I didn't have enough facts in my head to debate him and I didn't feel comfortable doing that anyway since he'd been there much longer than me, so my response was something along the lines of "Hey lookit da bunnies! So, first question - can anyone point me to a good myth-debunking site, or some informative article, because I'd like to read up a little more. Second question - should I talk to anyone at the Humane Society about this? I felt really bad that he was announcing the evils of Pitbulls to the potential adopters that came along, it seems to me as though this should be a place to debunk these things, not perpetuate them. But then again I'm new and clueless and I don't want to make anything worse. I'm not really sure what to do so I'd like your opinion. Thanks.

It's unfortunate that such thinking persists even in circles that should be more educated, but sadly that's the case. She also told me I was going to make my dog sick by feeding him canned pumpkin and/or yogurt, so

When I first adopted my cat I got all sorts of bad information, mostly from my in-laws, but luckily the adoption counselor at the HS set me straight, and I realized I really needed to read up on stuff. That might be part of the reason why this is so unsettling to me - I've pretty much come to expect good information from the people at that place.Superconsndar posted:The OP of the old thread addressed some common pitbull myths: http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...hreadid=3119806 Thank you. Meet Penguin. We don't really know enough about pits to know if she is a mix or her coloration is common. She's about 1 1/2 years old and 46lbs last we checked. Had her second immiticide dose a week ago, (picked up heartworms back when she was stray) so three weeks to go before she can have real fun again, but even with zero exercise besides walks in the yard and chasing blueberries inside she is an angel. I'll be going to the Bikers for Bullies event on Sunday (as a pedestrian, not a biker) to see Wallace, Thelma and Hector! I'll be sure to bring back lots of pictures! I'm still trying to decide whether Angus is coming along or not. If he isn't I have to convince my family to look after him. ![]() So I made it to Animal Farm's charity event and disc demo "Bikers for Bullies" Today! There must have been about 150 bikes there, although I think most grabbed the lunch that came with their registration and left there was still a good crowd for the demo. Angus ended up staying with my family and apparently drove them up the wall. He's unfortunately a real momma's boy and only settled momentarily down for a (raw) chicken leg. I was floored last night when My dad asked me if he could come with today. This is the man who defended their kennel's policy to screen bullies but not any other breed (Their dog aggressive GSD mix was accepted no questions asked ![]() Wallace is an amazing dog. He really is about as laid back and tolerant as it gets until the frisbees are brought out. I got Wallace kisses! Roo recognized me from facebook and gave me one of the custom Wallace frisbees he used in the demo. It's even "signed" (AKA chewed/caught) by Wallace. I think I'm going to hang it on my wall. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thelma is a beautiful, extremely well built dog. She is following very closely in Wallace's footsteps. So I saw this guy today:![]() His name is Justice. The rescue website says pointer, the foster dad said boxer/beagle...I could buy pointer/pit, but he's got way too much of a hippo mouth to be a purebred pointer. What do the pibble people think? From what I saw, he would be an awesome flyball dog. I get the feeling he's going to go to some home where he'll end up being returned for having too much energy

I'm hoping I can get some help here. This morning my husband found a female Pit Bull sitting on our front steps. She is incredibly sweet but has clearly been very neglected. She's very skinny and has some patches of fur missing by her ears and bony hips. The poor thing followed me into the back yard with little urging and wolfed down the food we gave her all the while wagging her tail eagerly and smiling that cute doggie smile. I'd love to keep her but I can't since we already have dogs and our lease won't allow any more. I have an appointment for her with my vet for Monday. However for the long term, I don't know what to do with her. I could probably get away with fostering her for a little while, but I want to find her a good home. I'm wary of putting up an ad on Craigslist or in the local paper. Can any of you point me in the direction of a Pit Bull Rescue in the New Orleans area? I'll post some photos later.

Supernaturalist posted:These seem like such awesome dogs. I'm jealous! So I was at a dog show last week for a Rally competition, but there was quite a bit of conformation going on as well. I fell in love with this gentleman: ![]() Click here for the full 1058x711 image. He was such a stunning dog, and the way he carried himself was marvelous. He oozed confidence. It's unusual seeing Staffordshire Bull Terriers at dog shows since Ontario has BSL that requires all pitbullesque breeds to be muzzled and not bred. I've heard stories of people getting the okay from the kennel club to show their dogs and then arriving at the site only to be turned away, not even allowed on the property. It's ridiculous. So, anyways, needless to say I was pleased to see this guy trotting around unmuzzled. I think he ended up taking 2nd or 3rd in his group. Unfortunately I was called into the ring as the terrier winners were announced so I missed it. ![]() Click here for the full 1032x692 image. This is a wide shot of the rest of the terrier group. The bull terrier was pretty handsome too. I've never been a fan of terriers, so I didn't pay much attention to the rest. ![]() Click here for the full 1322x407 image. I'll leave it to people with more understanding of bully breeds to judge his quality, but I just fell in love with him. I wish I'd taken better pictures, but hopefully you get the idea.
