So I spent the entire weekend listening to two albums, which is awesome since I really needed some new poo poo in my library.

The first is Bayside's fifth album, Killing Time. I didn't start listening to Bayside until The Walking Wounded. As a relatively new fan, this album rocks. It's definitely a step forward from Shudder, and it manages to be really catchy while still keeping a solid punk foundation (something All Time Low couldn't do). The gang vocals are a little overused, but that's a minor complaint for an otherwise great CD. Oh, and The Wrong Way has a pretty rad guitar solo, making up for the fact that the next track is bland as poo poo.

I still liked Shudder a lot better than Killing Time although it's growing on me.

I have never really understood why some people like Bayside so much - Anthony's voice sounds kind of annoying to me and their music seems pretty run-of-the-mill, but I really like that Mona Lisa song of their newest CD. Maybe I should give them a chance, they might click this time. Also, Anthony just seems like a fun-hating tool on his blog, always talking about how THE SCENE is being destroyed and all that boring crap no one wants to hear about.
Haha, this so much. That's pretty much the only song from them I listen to, I wonder what went wrong with the rest of the album.

I think the love for Bayside at least how I see is as a fan comes from really well written lyrics coupled with fairly technical instrumental pieces thrown within.

Not many bands out there are throwing a lot of guitar solos in their songs, they're typically just variations on the chorus being "sung" by the guitar. And the lyrics are really well put together. Fall Out Boy, like em or not, kinda has this same thing going on but they've definitely committed to a more radio friendly sound where as Bayside has been around a lil over 10 years and hasn't changed too much in that directions.

Gotta give some props to a group that stay together touring every year in hole in the wall dumps and not committing to commercializing or getting the hell out.

All that being said it's a lot of girl hate and you can't blame Anthony too much. I mean his wife left him for a career riding on big black porno dicks, so his ranting about the scene which no one, myself included, really gives a poo poo about is probably just him dwelling about something other than his porn star ex wife.

Either way, Bayside is definitely one of my favorite bands and I'll go see them every time they come within a few hours distance because they always put on an amazing show.

This of all is just my opinion, I'm not going to bother defending a pissing contest of what makes ____ band better than lovely Bayside.

I've been a Bayside fan since Sirens + Condolences and what I love most about them is the way their influences creep in from album to album. Self-titled has the crazy Gurewitz / Jefe style guitarwork from Jack. By Shudder, you see Skiba-style piano playing and that Smoking Popes sort of nasal singing that I personally love. I haven't had the time to listen to Killing Time as an album yet but the songs I heard (esp. the song Killing Time) sound awesome.

The poster boy for what's wrong with the Detroit Lions... and SAS

Loving all this Bayside talk. What I really enjoy about Killing Time is how it brings back a lot of their older sounds without sounding like old stuff. It definitely has a lot of the harder riffs that you would have heard on Bayside or Sirens & Condolences. But I've been a pretty big fan since Sirens & Condolences so my opinion might be biased.

I definitely don't think there are many bands out there like them and it sucks they're going on tour with Silverstein and the show is on a Wednesday. Pretty weak guys.

Yeah seriously the worst thing about seeing Bayside live is the lovely acts they tend to tour with. Against Me! (Right after As the Eternal Cowboy was released) and the Sleeping (two separate shows) were the only decent acts they ever played with when I saw them

You're welcome, man - this is a record people need to hear. It's currently streaming over at Rocksound.tv for those who want to hear a few more songs (I recommend Renegade '86, Muther and We The Pros of Cons, but it's seriously one of the few CDs I've heard in a long while where every track is nothing short of fantastic): http://www.rocksound.tv/features/ar...-track-by-track

I have fallen in love with Transit and Title Fight lately. I've only listened to Transit's "Keep this to Yourself" but holy poo poo there are some great songs on that album. Also, "1978" off their acoustic album (the last track I wanna say, the non acoustic) is so good. Loved pretty much everything on Title Fight's "The Last Thing You Forget" but haven't listened to much else.

I've been on a huge pop-punk kick lately. I've been a huge Set Your Goals fan for like 2 years, and can't wait for their new album. Loved The Wonder Years' 'The Upsides', The Swellers' "Ups and Downsizing" and Fireworks' "All I Have to Offer..", plus their other 2 fantastic tracks "Decline of a Midwestern Civilization" and "Like Ships in the Night".

Someone give me more stuff along these lines that I might like!

For Transit, definitely pick up the Stay Home ep. It's a lot more anthemic than Keep This To Yourself. Did you get the cd/digital version of The Last Thing You Forget? If you did, it's basically a compilation of all their old EPs anyway, so there isn't much else out there besides some really old demos, but their full length is coming out like next month.

Also be sure to check out Make Do And Mend, Tigers Jaw, Shook Ones, Balance and Composure, and Polar Bear Club. I'm not a big fan of Man Overboard, but you should give them a chance. And don't forget to listen to the older bands that inspired the "pop punk played by ex-hardcore kids" movement, like Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, and Saves The Day's first three albums, if you don't already.

Thanks for the suggestions! Saves the Day is one of my favorites, though I've just gotten into them over the past year or so. I love Through Being Cool, Stay What You Are, and Ups & Downs. I need to listen to Can't Slow Down more.

I'm going to make it a point to check out the other stuff you suggested, though it might be tough to locate some of it.

iron chic mentioned a lot of of the bands I'd recommend, but let me throw in Take Notice. They have only put out an EP since they have had some trouble finding a new singer, but they just put out a new song, "This Is Where We'll Stay Alive", which is a definite summer jam - check them out, the song is on their BandPage: http://www.facebook.com/takenotice

That video doesn't even showcase the worst parts of that song. Yeah it gets worse.

Also, saw LetLive live last weekend and the singer just commands an entire room when he's on stage. He's also super humble and walked around afterwards shaking hands and generally being super chill. I listened to their new single the other day after they posted something on their Facebook page about it. It's....Taking Back Sunday. Doesn't sound like they've tried to learn anything from what they've done in the past or expand upon the sound from their previous albums at all. Just sounds like they're recycling what they've been doing.

I think they should've called it quits as a band after Louder Now. New Again was alright but not super memorable or anything, and this new one doesn't even seem like it'll be as good as New Again was.
