I'm still not quite clear on whose side Gazille is on. I'm rereading it, and at first he's Phantom (duh) but then he's taking orders from someone else, and then maybe he's a double agent...where is he at right now? Fairy Tail is an awesome comic. I wasn't too sure about this arc but now I can tell that pretty much all of this was leading up to this, and we're probably going to find a strong link to Zeref at the end of this.

I wonder if we'll see Gazille or Loki soon. I'm also curious about MYSTOGAN. Is he gonna show up? Also, you know how he uses all those staves? Is that because he's from Edoras and can't use normal magic? Though if that were true, why would Happy and Charlie be able to fly in Earthland?

Despite how serious this chapter was, I laughed a lot when I noticed Nichiya's speech bubbles had sparkles on them for the entire chapter. I don't know why people don't like this Manga more, its better then Naruto and at least on par with Bleach. Then again, it sort of suffers the 'One Piece' problem in that the beginning is kind of mediocre where as Naruto/Bleach had strong openings. Edit VV: Eh, that arc was like a pile of poo poo filled with gold nuggets, there were a lot of decent ideas in it, but it was just way to thrown together to be good. However unlike Bleach or Naruto at least with this manga you know that its going to move on to other things soon enough because of the fast pacing. So, in a previous chapter we learned that the cats hid from public eye a century ago, ruling/guiding through a few higher-up humans. I wonder if this was the result of some sort of clash between them and either the dragons or Zeref. Because it seems strange that the dragons vanished seven years ago, and then a year later the cats began to target the dragon slayers before they figured out that they made good batteries. Why would they want them dead to begin with, unless there was some threat posed by dragon magic? I'm also curious as to how exactly magic works. They explained it as combining lacryma with items, and that humans were better at doing that sort of thing than the cats were. Also, the other Lucy was completely surprised by the concept of magic within a body, yet Happy and Charle, who were technically from the alternate world, were able to use magic until they returned, while Wendy and Natsu's magic got turned off. But Lucy is able to use her summons, and humans from her world are treated as batteries. I wonder where the disconnect is in the process.

In Edoras there is no ambient magic. There are people born with a natural aptitude for magic (like Erza and Juvia), but it has never been stated either way if only certain people can learn any magic at all. All of Erza's old friends learned how, and they weren't mages as children. As such, there is no reason (yet) why natives of Edoras wouldn't be able to learn magic without items if they went to Fiore. Mystogan could be using regular magic, supplemented with all those staves. He started with items, so perhaps he is just very good at using them even now. After all, he is still supposedly on the same level as Luxus, so in spite of being Gerard and running from his only fight he must still be strong.

On topic, I'm really starting to wonder when/if Natsu/Wendy will get their powers back. I really want Natsu to break some things, and it would be nice to see a bit more from Wendy. I know she's more support, but she hasn't done much other than heal/break that one orb. It would be cool if she could buff the poo poo out of Natsu. DOUBLE DRAGON I'm pretty sure Lucy's keys work because the keys are, in themselves, magic items. She's just able to use them, being a stellar spirit mage. And the spirits themselves work because they are inherently magic and come from a parallel dimension.

You know, it just now occurred to me that dragon slayers can eat non-magical materials to produce magic. They aren't batteries; they are generators. Considering the 80 year old thing, they may not even age normally. Get enough dragon slayers together and Edoras may well have a long term solution.

They haven't tried eating their elements because it is necessary for the story that they be helpless for a while. Natsu is going to resolve matters by punching things with fire; regaining the ability to do that by eating fire is the most likely way. I suppose he could use a lachryma or something instead.

I kinda doubt eating fire will work though I could be wrong. Theoretically, they shouldn't have lost all their magic instantly when they traveled but they did or at least they couldn't use it. What was it about going to Edoras that made them not able to at least finish up the power left within them? It's not simply that they can't generate power naturally. They can't even use magic normally. Why would their normal replenishment method even work of they couldn't even use their power at all? Anyways, is this the first time Charlie has called him Happy?

Dragon slayers are some weird dragon/human hybrid (if not baby dragons themselves). Besides, they established just last chapter that dragon slayers are more valuable for magic extraction than regular mages.
