I always liked the fast clip at which this story moved, so if giving Kana a power up for the dumbest reason is the reason why she gets The Ultimate Power, well, whatever. We will be in a new arc in like 10 chapters. Use your cards more next time arughghghgh

She knew they were after Zeref, who was on the island. Really, the problem is that Kana has plot-mandated stupidity. Mashima couldn't figure out a way to get her to the grave alone without making her functionally retarded. During the Luxus arc, Kana needed to lose her fight off-panel because more important characters needed more time. I'm sort of curious why this arc is centered on Kana when Mashima doesn't appear to give two shits about her.

It's not like this is the first bad piece of writing in the manga or anything Gerard.

Adding to the chorus of people who are generally disappointed with Kana. I am going to be very naive and not expect shounen to be shounen and hope Gildarts is jealous and mad because SHE got to have Fairy Glitter and not him and thus continue to rain on her parade even further this will of course not be the case because this is shounen BUT I BELIEVE

I'm pretty sure Mashima will let each of the S-Class mages retroactively possess the spell for Fairy Glitter, if not the ability to use it practically in a combat situation, since that seems to be the "reward" for becoming an S-Class. Also, on a different note, this should always be what happens when a side character ignores their defining characteristic and tries to be plot-relevant. If Cana had been drunk and/or drinking this whole time, things might have turned out better for her.

Bluenote is cool, you crazy. The worst of the badguy designs by far was the other guy this chapter, just because he's so dull and incredibly cliche. Mashima tried something new with Bluenote, I like that. I liked this chapter all around actually. They named a dragon Belfast what the heck

I find his ability to be the least interesting of the Seven Kin. Gravity control and basic telekinesis? Sorry Naruto already did that and Pain was much more interesting a character. It's so cliche at this point to make gravity control the MOST POWERFUL guy in the enemy's group. Bluenote is just power hungry and has no personality and just has a douchey looking face.

You can't seriously be complaining about uninspired powers when one guy's is "fire" and another's is "better fire"? Bluenote didn't get his station due to his power, he got it through ruthlessness and being a motherfucker, Hades comes out and says this. Besides, Pain was a multi-arc main villain. Bluenote is just a side-boss. But I mean anyway I'll not argue over it anymore, I just think it's a weird thing to throw out there.

Yeah that guy's power is dumb, too. The other guys' are more interesting. One thing that was at least useful about the God Flame dude is it illustrated the difference between Grimoire Heart and Fairy Tail. They basically got insane power by selling their soul to the devil while Natsu's power is more natural. That's why I didn't mind that battle. Yeah it was just more powerful fire but Natsu used the power of friendship and anger to overcome it using his instincts. It's dumb but it serves the story well enough that I can look past it. Gravity in general is just uninspired. It's not interesting to watch in battle and it's just overpowered, especially when all he has to do is push people away so they can't do anything. I'm ok with dumb or uninspired powers/magic,but I'm more worried about all the simultaneous fights/subplots going on that are diluting the story's focus (3 fights, the Gray/Ultear business, the new child from the last page, Kana's daddy issues, and I guess maybe that guy from the council. I'm not saying have a layered or complicated story is bad, it's just not great for the narrative sometimes.
