Mario/Geno/Mallow is the best combo, simply because Psycopathing every enemy is the best thing (even though I know about 3/4 of every psycopath saying by heart at this point).

I said I never used her once as a kid, so drat it I wasn't going to start. I gave in and won the fight easily though.  When I was a kid I never used healing items and stuff either. I always fought and beat even Smithy with an inventory of 2X Pick Me Ups and some amount of Rock Candy, Red Essence and Fireworks.

I too tried the sinner sandwich, using cornflakes, strawberry jam, and turkey on white. It wasn't exceptionally delicious or anything, but it was edible enough that I finished it. If you've ever had a turkey and cranberry sandwich or put some potato chips on the sandwich to add a bit of crunch, it's about what you'd expect from a combination of those two ideas. Fun note: After I bought the sandwich supplies that I was missing, I looked at the bottom of the receipt and found "Your cashier was: Zach"
