Whenever I think of Cape Cod I picture those awesome little boats that the big boats use for their tenders. They are dinghys but really sweet and hand made. http://www.rogercarrollboats.com/im...om_grace_lg.jpg

It'll still pound in a sea, but less so than a true flat-bottom. Sorry for the big images, but I haven't resized them. Its 6' wide inside the gunwales at the widest point, and can probably support half a ton with ease. I've seen similar skiffs loaded to the gunwales with bushels of oysters, and they still have a foot of freeboard. And yes, thats a 20HP Mercury, one of the ones with no separate throttle/gear control. Its all on one rotating assembly, which makes it easier to operate for non-marine folks. I'm not a huge fan of the motors, because you can't rev them without going into gear and loading the motor up, but it fired on the third pull after sitting all winter... so I'm not complaining. We still haven't gotten it, thanks to stupid university policies regarding boats and whatnot. Grumble... Grumble. sharkytm fucked around with this message at Apr 25, 2010 around 23:52 |

It needs some work, but nothing that'll prevent it from running this year. It comes with a 20hp Mercury 2-stroke, and an ancient trailer. Yee-Haw. That's a pretty standard boat everywhere. How far are your trips in it going to be? I'd have one by now if I could do most of my fishing within 5 miles of the harbor.

T Tops are awesome for outrigging, thats about it. T Tops suck if you have to cast a lot. They do blow for fly rishing though. God, I just cant justify the T Top. It's more money, it isn't functional, and it will cause me to delay my trips by up ot an extra hour because of the bridges. Bimini Top it is. I cant imagine using a TTop for actual rod storage. I can store 8 rods in my boat as is in the sides. How many do you need?!?!

George Williams, Brockway, Ladybug, Etc... still made up here, and still used a huge amount for clamming, lobstering, and general knockabout work.

I've recently become interested in boats, and I was wondering what you can expect to get for between $100,000 and $500,000 (big range i know, but i have no idea how much boat that sort of money buys you, considering a good RV can be upwards of 900k like the one my neighbour has), if your main concern is comfort and luxury and not speed or anything? I'm not a sailor, nor do i know any, so something i can learn to run myself would be good i guess.

Here is the boat during happier times: ![]() A winter squall brewed up, snapped a bunch of lines, and spent a couple hours smashing the boat against the rocks on the lee side, stove in two hull segments pretty badly. ![]() So, I took a bit of spring vacation to come down and help fix it. Each pontoon is made up of six watertight segments that are bolted together. So, in theory, they can be removed, floated out from under the rest of the boat, and repaired. In practice, this requires a sledgehammer, but really worked pretty much like we thought. Here it is with the forward hull sections unbolted and partly flooded ![]() Losing 1/3rd of the flotation on one side leaves things a tippy. I did come up with a new boat name. Before the coast guard can sell them, they have to be unusable apparently. So that means they strip EVERYTHING out of it, puncture the tube and then drag it around a parking lot to gently caress up the bottom. So we had to patch the tubes, patch a bit of fiberglass on the bottom, put in all the controls/fuel tank and a motor. Sadly we went the cheaper route for a engine, and used a 190hp mercruiser instead of the turbo diesel it should have had. Now you just need to go joy riding in it as much as possible, preferably in large waves or at least big wakes. Just gotta try and keep the prop in the water or else the landing sucks.

Every year it never fails that I forget to do lower unit oil right away.
