Even though it usually turned into an enormous snipe fest in the end, I loved the huge Berlin/Brandenburg Gate map since you could take a shot at a moving dot hundreds of meters away, wait a second, and then have the kill pop up when your bullet finally got to the target. Gave you a nice warm and fuzzy feeling

I wish more servers would run with the no kill message, it seemed to really make long range fighting more intense. Hopefully it will remain an option in HoS.

It will most likely be an option but even if not, it can be easily modded out. It is much more easy to simply remove something you don't like rather than to add something new.

wasn't it tossed around awhile back for vehicles to be AI only? That's something I'd definitely be fine with it if was a tool for the map maker.

I must be in the minority then as personally I hate not knowing if I killed a guy or not. Kill messages are just one realism concession I'm willing to make. The long range infantry combat is bollocks-hard enough without the uncertainty of whether the guy you just shot at is dead or if he's lining up a shot on you. Not only will snipers be harder to take care of, since you have less idea of if you got the fucker, they're still able to confirm their kills more easily than the average rifleman and gently caress empowering those douchebags.

Ha, having them on a delay is actually a really cool idea. I don't know of any game that does that.

Yes! Rumors of a beta are circulating quite well on the forum. Looks like we'll get a taste before Spring. Other things I've found out... Many classes - Assault, Elite Assault, Rifleman, Elite Rifleman, Machinegunner, Marksman, Engineer, Squad Leader Single Player - Include a German Campaign. Leaning is dynamic - it's not just a key, if you're near a corner, use your iron sights the game knows that your attempting to lean and will automatically adjust you characters position to lean. Multiple Grenade Types - There's more than just HE and Smoke? Multiple Artillery Call-ins - mortars, howitzers and rockets Tab8715 fucked around with this message at Aug 25, 2010 around 16:12 |

ArmA2 also does this (assuming you're playing on expert mode which has the bare minimum of hud indicators which is essentially if you have grenades or your weapon selected and the action menu). You have to be constantly aware of what direction your enemies are so that they don't out flank you. It really doesn't help when you're playing a large hilly map with tons of tree lines with bushes to hide in so you could graze a guy and think you killed him. I also can't wait for the PR mod for ArmA2. Bigger maps and a well done adversarial gameplay mode (ArmA2 is only really good if you play coop with 30 other guys).

I've more faith in Tripwire than any other dev on this though... What they've said is their idea is to have 2 or more core server types, the realisim server will probably be the normal RO server and will most likely be the main one played. They'll also have a less realistic server type that will give a bit more help to the players like objective markers I guess (they haven't specified exactly what) these are for new people to ease into the realisim servers or of you just fancy playing on them. Servers will also have all the custom settings as well so they can tweak them to their preference. edit here's the quote: "Another thing to point out, is that the game will have different stock server setups, which will be "relaxed realism" and "realistic". Relaxed realism will be what you have seen in these videos, and will include all of the new interface helpers that we have added to the game. With that said, "relaxed realism" will still be 10X more hardcore and realistic than COD or Battlefield (its actually much more hardcore than COD's "hardcore" mode). "Realistic" will be for the more hardcore players, and will have some of the new interface helps, etc disabled. Beyond this, server admins will be able to set up a custom configuration that picks and chooses which features to have. All of this adds up to a game that will have a much bigger community than the first game, and be a lot of fun to be a part of. I've had REAL paintball COMBAT EXPERIENCE and putting your head down under fire seemed to be more of a reflex than a choice. So, I doubt you'd be able to aim or see very well when your brain is basically hammering you with orders to get to safety. of course I may be a pussy and this may not be the same in real combat for real soldiers Edit: Just to clarify, the balls flying around you and hitting your surroundings was the thing that triggered that reflex for me Minorkos fucked around with this message at Aug 26, 2010 around 12:47 |

This happens to everyone, but with more experience comes more tolerance for the number of paintballs flying at your head before you instinctively duck, and some people just don't give a gently caress and will charge 30 players whilst naked and screaming (true story). I personally don't like kill messages but I think the delayed ones are a nice compromise, if only so that it forces you to wait a few seconds to see if you really did kill that guy, while people who don't care can continue fighting. I could only imagine the PTSD of soldiers in WW2 who had 100 kills at the end of a single half hour long battle. Video games are just so much more lethal.

That's the first video I've seen of this game and their iron sight/scope system sounds amazing. Dialing in ranges is awesome. Didn't get a chance to play the first Red Orchestra cuz of a bad PC for a while myself and its sad to read in this thread that the community sucks for it now because it sounds like just the game to play. I have been on a WW2/Company of Heroes Online kick and can't wait for a game like this to come out

Rock Paper Shotgun interview with Tripwire's president about vehicles in the gamequote:For starters we have fully modeled the entire interior of every tank in the game. At any position in the tank the player will see what a real person in the tank would see. Look down and you’ll see your hands operating all of the levers. Move between positions and it will be fully animated in first person. And your tank will have a full crew of either AI NPC’s or human players to fight alongside you. Look to your right and you will see the hull machine gunner blasting away at the enemy. Fire the main cannon, and you’ll see an NPC crewman reloading the cannon shell beside you. You have a living breathing crew all around you and you can see all of the elements of the tank operating. When a shell penetrates your armor, you’ll see your crewmates die around you, and hear their screams as the tank catches fire. Oh my yes. Agreed, and I'm really glad they notice the issue with infantry and tank balance. You've got to have a heavy infantry to tank ratio or it's just not fun for either side. A little disappointing that we're only seeing just the P4 and T34, but hell it looks awesome anyway.
