Of the Horde maps so far, Overpass(?) seems the easiest to defend. The raised spot only has one route up to it and they get bottle-necked like crazy, and once you've bought the 2 control points near the stairs the Locust have to get through 3 barricades to reach you, under fire from 2 turrets the whole time. Trenches is insane, the central points are open to all sorts of angles, we didn't really use the sides much so they might be better options. Both Mercy and Old Town are pretty easy to defend at the borders of the map. The biggest change to Horde online is that when you die you can restart like you can offline. It does mean you can keep trying, but it's also way too tempting to keep plugging away to the point it stops being fun.

Sawed off and Retro's as far as the eye can see. Least its easy to spot them, all they do is wall bounce and charge you.

Really quick question about the gold Lancer/Hammer; is it 200 kills during launch week, or simply playing at least once during launch week? When I got my first lancer kill I could have swore I saw something about 200 kills and the word 'gold' but it went by so fast I missed it.

At this risk of sounding arrogant - does this game pretty much play itself? I'm on hardcore difficulty, act 3, and I haven't had a proper 'Game Over' yet. I feel like any situation can be overcome by just bruteforcing my way through and letting my squadmates prop me up.

I literally JUST finished Gears 2 last night and started Gears 3 today. I have a quick question because I can't tell if I missed something (I played no DLC for Gears 2..just the standard game). The whole court marshal/Marcus ending up in prison then abruptly waking up on the ship....was that something I missed from an expansion pack? Or was that some little flash forward that was a tease for something to come in Gears 3? Because the last thing I remember from Gears 2 was flying away as Jacinto sank.

How long do the $20 video game credit (+Kantus skin in this case) deals usually last on Amazon? I won't have time to play it for a few weeks, so not having it in my hand today isn't a big deal.

Even if you do outright die due to a one shot or something, checkpoints put you very close to where you were. In most cases where enemies aren't within reaching distance of you, you'll be revived by the AI. The game is actually a bit harder with 3-4 real players as the AI seems to be more damage immune and can revive you under fire that would normally down anyone else. I think Deus Ex's $10 credit lasted a week but $20 credits are much more rare. I'm almost done with Act 1 on Hardcore. I don't like this nearly as much as the previous two games' campaign modes. However, team deathmatch with the limited spawns is so much fun. I didn't get a chance to play the beta, and I really like 1) the lack of two-piece, and 2) it's back to 4v4. Re: which starting guns to use, I found the retro to be pretty darn good. Still day one and all.

Just finished Act 1 and while the campaign is good, it's just not drawing me in as much as the others did. It's probably just me though. I'm still going to play through the whole thing before I pass full judgement on the game. I like how you level up by playing the campaign. I'm already at level five. Four of those levels were gained through campaign. It's a nice way to get a few skins before you launch into the multiplayer full time. The multiplayer itself is pretty good. I only played two games of Warzone though. The games seem to be a bit more action packed than Gears 2's matches. People are actually moving around instead of them sitting around a corner waiting for you to run by before shotgunning you down.

From very short private match loving around with Ah Pook today, I've confirmed the following: -the sawed off's gib range is slightly farther reaching than the gnasher's -The hammerburst does slightly less damage point blank than it does at mid range -The Lancer is only slightly weaker than the hammerburst and probably the best weapon against a sawed off (hip fired)

I'm glad Horde is such a challenge. Well it makes sense since its the only thing that can weaken her super armor. Man its game like this that make me realize that when I say I'm not competitive, I'm lying out of my rear end. Matches have been weird for me, I do good, I do AWFUL, there's just no in-between, hell the last one I died tons of times then rallied back and got 5 uncontested kills and the game winning one. I'm liking the shotgun for once, its actually consistent, all bullets seem to hit regardless of range but it barely does anything if its to far, only at close range does it do good damage, sawed off is still gay but also seemingly consistent, I'm not getting insta downed by it, just completely gibbed which is the point of it I guess. Mercy, I dunno, seems like a big goddamn map for 5v5 and there's perch in the middle that people love to camp with the longshot, reminds me of pubbie hill from Black Ops.

Henrik Zetterberg posted:Is the Lancer chainsaw still like a vacuum? This is my preferred method of killing. The vacuum effect was mostly due to bad lag. With the dedicated servers, you'll probably feel less of that effect. With that said, the chainsaw cannot be interrupted with bullets when you have it fully revved. You can only be interrupted the first half second when you press B as you do the pulling animation to kick on the motor.
