I actually liked Nier and had fun completing most of it, where as Drakengard made me want to actively murder the developers once 100% it. Though, I haven't gotten to 100% Nier yet.

I'll just save pulling the trigger on Ending D until I actually do the LP in a few months.

It's pretty telling how lovely Drakengard 2 was when Nier makes a far better sequel while having only the most reaching connections to the previous series. I much prefer Caim and Red getting blown up by a jet resulting in the apocalypse of another dimension rather than...getting killed in a lame boss fight by faggy anime kid #17772.

Is there any official art of Brother Nier's design in the first half of the game? I mean, I can find concept art and the like. But, no promotional material type stuff. The same can be said of Part 1 Father Nier, but there is still a decent amount of CGI art of him.

Or were they just that embarrassed of how loving retarded he looks? Since, honestly...goddamn...that is a stupid looking character design.

EDIT: FINALLY, I remembered to put a link to Grimoire Nier, so that's in the OP now if you need it.

A few of those I haven't seen Devola and Popola spoilerific one in particular. I think most of that is from Grimoire Nier, which I order a copy of since what the hell...

Anyhow, I ought to hopefully be starting the LP some time this weekend, barring any scheduling conflicts cropping up. I spent a long, bored evening last night ripping the individual song layers from the game and properly processing 'em to match the in-game track loops. Pretty interesting to listen to each layer by itself.

vvv Just the US version. I had someone to play Replicant on the side, but they aren't available anymore.

Is there any reason to keep playing on Normal instead of Easy? It's not like the game is hard (except the loving wraiths on sky levels) but I'm guessing Easy will make some of these sword fights take a little less time than forever

You cannot get Ending E (the one that leads into Nier) if you play on Easy. But, to be honest unless you are drat good at rhythm games you would likely hit a brick wall when you unlocked it anyway. Honestly, if you have an Action Replay or something, I played through it the first time with one-hit kills for everything on Ground Missions and it made my experience much more bearable.

Of course, then I turned around a few years later and played it on Normal without cheats and 100% the game a second time for the Internet.

It's basically Schrodinger's Apocalypse. There are two Niers in a separate box both going around loving up the Replicant system and killing the Shadowlord. Whichever one does it first will release a deadly poison into the other box and kill that Nier. So, of course the Shadowlord dies either way, but they both cannot have killed him.

So if you played Nier Gestalt, that Nier killed the Shadowlord and hosed up the whole Replicant business. As a result, Nier Replicant never happens since there is nobody left to make that version of him. If you played Nier Replicant, then Father Nier died at some point in his adventure and on the next cycle Brother Nier was a jerk and screwed everything up.

That made the most sense to me at least.

Eh, Square-Enix just published the game. They had gently caress all to do with Cavia's demise. Directly, at least.

By all accounts it was mostly due to its parent company, AQ Interactive, being brought on board for development of The Last Story; which is Final Fantasy's creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi, having broken off from Square-Enix in a bid to go "No, gently caress YOU dad! I made Final Fantasy once, I can do it again!" AQ basically cannibalized all its young, including Cavia, for resources for that game.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it plays there. I'm almost positive it also plays on the final hallway between Emil's death and going to fight the Shadowlord. I recall taking out a lot of aggression on the unfortunate swarm of Shades in that corridor after Emil died and it playing.

This game has a poo poo load of music it barely ever uses.

Japan isn't known for being the most accepting of alternative life styles, or being incredibly open about sexuality. She has a penis!". It adds little to the plot aside from explaining why she dresses like that, and honestly, she could have just worn a dress giving the games explination. For further examples of not heterosexuality in Cavia games and how it doesn't really add a whole lot, see Leonard being a pedophile, or Emil being gay for Nier.
I'm not sure spoiler tags were neccesary for that all, but wanted to be safe.

...You do realize the entirety of her backstory of getting shat on by the people in The Aerie is due to her being that way?

Out of curiosity, who here is worried that with the continued support of NIER poo poo with soundtracks and concerts and radio dramas that Square-Enix will eventually do a follow-up game? I mean it is obviously not a remotely forgotten title published like the bulk of the poo poo the company has put out. I find that prospect worrying.
