gotta agree, Vordhosbn is possibly my favourite Aphex track. Not to say that there isn't some dull poo poo on Drukqs, but it still has it's gems.

Oh sure, there are some GREAT tracks on there - I mean, it's an RDJ record! But there's just so much filler between the 2 discs, and so little attention to melody and harmonic interest compared to most of his music. Still "Avril 14" is one of his prettiest songs.

Has there been any indication as to what's happened to Boards of Canada or has it still just been complete radio silence from their camp? I remember hearing that they had a new album coming but were being prevented from releasing it by some unspecified issue outside of their control.

Pretty much silence; all we've gotten are some promises that they're not dead from a Hexagon Sun representative. Well, that and Sevenfortyseven on Warp20. No idea when they'll finally decide the new album is ready

Oh, I hadn't heard that track. At least that's something then. I suppose if there's no sign of anything new from them any time soon, who are some similar artists worth checking out? Last time I asked someone this I got recommended Bibio.

Solar Bears sort of kind of have a similar sensibility, though I wouldn't call it a similar sound, necessarily. "Seven Forty Seven" is a gussied up old track, not really new material. It's been around since the Skam days, if I recall correctly.

Not exactly. It was one of the many songs written for Geogaddi/IABPOITC that weren't used in either of them. Some looping multitracks for it were part of an interactive BoC website flying-around 3D thing around Geogaddi's release, but the song only was available to the public in the form of fanmade remixes made out of the multitracks. Warp20 was the first time we ever heard the full song, which is much more densely layered in the noise/music/sound bed it builds. But yeah, it's not strictly new. Still not from the Skam days or previously released though :p

I scanned this thread pretty quickly and didn't see it pop up, but is there anything at all similar to the folk/electronic style of Bibio that is easily obtainable? I am finding that I love the ability of the music to create "natural" soundscapes, so to speak. I also love BoC and Aphex Twin, so I am not opposed to more experimental ambient/acid-tinged music, either. Wildlife Analysis fucked around with this message at Feb 25, 2011 around 04:52 |

One of the tracks from the "Random 35 Tracks" tape that someone found and leaked (Track 6, Side A) has the same wailing-synth-air-raid-siren kind of melody thing droning throughout it, and that tape was leaked prior to Sevenfortyseven appearing on Warp20. But yeah, it's very different. Here it is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNYjRstdPgw If anyone reading this thread is a BoC fan and not familiar with the "Random 35 Tracks" tape, you owe it to yourself to track that down asap. It's not an official release, and it is not one of the "Old Tunes" tapes either. It's yet another leaked collection of their early work, and there is a lot of great poo poo on there along with a few familiar tracks. It's not hard to find through the usual channels, and its actually all on youtube as well (like everything else). It was mistakenly thought of as "Old Tunes Vol. 1" (when in reality, "A Few Old Tunes" was the name of Vol. 1, and this other tape was something we didn't know the name of at all) for several years after it was leaked, so I just think of it as another Old Tunes tape. (Particularly since the style, presentation, and some of the content are the same.)

Whoa, I just stumbled across Acroplane Recordings. The Wagawaga album from last week is vintage IDM stuff, like The Tuss crossed with Vibert crossed with early-period Plaid. I'm really loving it. Plus they released an EP from Sunken Foal that I somehow slept on a few months back despite Sunken Arches being one of the most interesting albums I've ever heard. poo poo.

I'm selling my first digital EP on Bandcamp! It's 6 bucks for 6 tracks, and you can find it here. Fans of Rephlex will probably be into it. The full tracks are naturally available for streaming on there as well, without paying anything. I mainly need the cash to repair my dear, old TR-909. Power surges suck. If you like what you're hearing, more EOD (in physical format) will hopefully be coming mid to late summer. It'll be an album/EP put out by a pretty cool label.
