The voices don't quite grab me like the normal show does. Can Fiona do anything close to equaling Finn's enthusiasm and squealing like a pig? And can anyone hope to equal John DiMaggio?

I also would of expected the ice queen to still have a pointy nose.

The lack of enthusiasm is really what the problem is for me. She sounds so.. calm.

I'm divided about this. I really love the concepts of these characters, but this clip doesn't have the show's usual energy. I really hope it gets better.

Also, I wonder how viewers who don't keep up with fandom will respond to this episode. It doesn't seem to have explained why all of the characters are suddenly gender-switched.

My main problem is the VA for Fiona seems really weak.

They aren't. It's Adventure Time with Fiona and Cake, not Adventure Time with Finn and Jake.

To be fair, there's usually gender swapped fan-art of like. Every cartoon character. It's just that the show is actually DOING a gender swapped episode, and they are super open about releasing everything from model sheets to backgrounds from the show, so their designs have been public for a while.

I would have guessed that he would actually speak a comprehensible language, seeing at it is opposites and all.

Is the gender-swapped episode 11 minutes or 22?

Seems almost unfortunate if it's only 11 minutes. I'm really excited for it.

At first I didn't like Fiona's voice, but its grown on me. People seem to be expecting her to just be a female Finn, but I think they're extending the "everything is opposite" motif to the characters' personalities, as well. So it makes sense for her to be less cocky and overconfident.

Fire it up.

My impression was that that the voice acting wasn't as strong/unique as the show in regular form.

I saw the comic con stuff through my husband's feeds and I'm glad it is getting attention. I guess I really fear losing the show so I want them to avoid change. No one seems pissed about dialog--like parent's groups. I think the show is such a treat and a high point I don't want it ending. Watching Pen Ward's interview for Frederator even worried me. The hot topic merch worries me the same. I hope the show and cast are strong enough to withstand what Flapjack and Chowder didn't seem to.

That doesn't seem fair but I think the show could last but traditionally none of them do. I don't think a Family Guy or Futurama respawn will ever happen with CN.

Pickle: Inspected.

A one-off gender-swapped episode can have more leeway than a regular episode and trades more on novelty. The voices were fine to me, and there was something just fundamentally amusing about watching the tweaked opening credits.

edit: Honestly both Fiona and Cake's vocal delivery work for their lines. They're not Fin and Jake, the difference seems to come across even though they say relatively similar things.

To be fair Cartoon Network tried to bring back Futurama and were denied if I'm remembering right.

They were outbid. It's Fox funding the new series with the proceeds of selling the new episodes to Comedy Central.

Korean joke aside, I would love him to do animated voices. He only used his actual accent on Lost once ("No, you're speaking Korean") but it was incredibly expressive in that bit.

Well, if you haven't been following the Saints Row thread(s) in Games, he does the voice work for one of the major characters.

So, yeah, Lord Monochromiumcorn needs to be voiced by Johnny Gat.

I'm looking forward to what they do with the gender-swap episode, but theh problem I have with that clip is that Fiona seems a lot older than Finn and I was expecting a younger sounding voice.

But it's only for 11 minutes, I think I can handle it.

I got to meet her at Pen Ward's ~*~SECRET AWESOME NIGHTTIME BEACH PARTAY~*~ (which wasn't actually a secret) and had been chatting her up for like a half hour before I found out she created Fionna and Cake and also worked on the show. Told her the comic where Cake puts the corpse in Fionna's bed was great and I loved her work.

But before that, I got to meet Pen, and the rest of the cast and get them to sign a sweet poster at the con. Even John DiMaggio showed up, which was loving shweet.

Probably about 35 people were there, all just standing in groups around the firepit, talking and eatin' pizza. Pizza that came from Ciro's Pizzeria in San Diego, which was painted and decorated with Adventure Time stuff for the con. There was even a giant inflatable Jake with Finn riding him on the roof, and they were giving away little Jake plushy keychains.

At the party, Pen would just kind of move from group to group joining the conversation or whatever. He's just a regular guy, and he's completely unfazed by the success of his show. I asked him if it was crazy or awesome that AT went from a little internet video to being CN's flagship property, and he just kinda shrugged and fistbumped me.
