It wasn't a gender swap because they weren't the same characters and it was also not 'real'.

No they were all made up characters and gender swap would mean it's Finn who's now a girl which wasn't what the episode was at all.

But please let's argue about this. And also I think Price Gumball was gay, I mean hello they got NPH to voice him.

e: Just for clarification the Futurama episodes Bend Her and Neutopia are gender swap episodes of something.

Obviously Adventure Time is supporting the homophobic notion that female-to-male transsexuals are only in it to trick girls into liking them.

Dude I've read the entire thread, I get what the argument for that episode is and I disagree with it but I wasn't even talking about that in the first place. I wasn't making a semantic argument, a gender swap episode deals with perceived gender norms and they're fish out of water stories about seeing how the other half lives. Both episodes that I went back and mentioned in my other post deal with this. That isn't what the Fionna and Cake episode was about, no one learned a lesson about gender in the end and it turns out the whole thing was just a crazy made up story anyway so any point that it might have made goes out the window.

But that's the last I'm saying about it because I don't care to discuss the issue any more, I just didn't want you to think being a jerk scared me away.

You know, I've been re-watching a lot of the older episodes, and I think the one that stands out is the one with movie night. They don't pour all the time on one character, which can get a little boring, so they string in a heap of the secondary characters instead. I liked the allusion to the time before the Mushroom War, and just seeing the citizens casually doing strange things like balancing an apple over someone's mouth or rolling coins across a stone wall. It's perfect.

Nnnnncheck please!

The main reason that person was fired was probably because it reflects badly on Fredarator as a company, when they have an employee who starts up a controversy that the company who hired them has to clean up.

I never saw the Mathematical video, it was pulled before I even saw the episode, but from the reactions I saw in the thread, it seemed like all they did was make some joking passing comment about Marceline and Bubblegum having gone out.

Was that it or is there more that I'm missing?

Yeah, I've seen Robocop. Bitches, leave.

What's really stupid about the controversy is that, as far as I can remember, no one from AT even said that the characters weren't gay. They said that the Mathematical video took it too far and used too racy of fanart (because come on, the show's for kids, don't have your official marketing company encourage shippers and show sexy fanart of the characters), but Muto never said "the Mathematical video hinted the characters were gay when they're not." He just said that it was over-the-top and that they intended the scene to be ambiguous.

The response from the AT team hasn't been homophobic at all, they've just been upset that their marketing people were doing stuff directed towards the worst part of their fanbase.

Isn't that like a completely subjective opinion or something? Here, have my subjective opinion: I haven't been able to get the songs out of my head for the past five days, so that should tell you something about how catchy they are. I thought it was a great character study that let two characters we don't normally see together get some face time.

How can something "obviously" be good. It's all a matter of taste. I thought it was just alright, but I'm also incapable of hating and Adventure Time episode. I thought the songs were mixed with Marceline's being the best but int general I just couldn't get into the friendship magic thing. It makes me roll my eyes in JRPGs and it makes me roll my eyes here. As mentioned it was also not that funny. Sure there was character development, but it was very slight at best. Basically "Marceline and PB don't like each other got expanded to "Marceline and PB don't like each other, but they used to hang out". It wasn't really enough to make up for the episode's shortcomings. Once again, not bad, but also not obviously good.

If you think this is funny, you should have seen the Gunnerkrigg thread when it was (very briefly) implied that one of the 2 main female friends in the series may be interested in a man.

Oh good, generic straight romance #2,405,120. Yawn. No Kat/Annie End, no reading. Jack's the least interesting male since Chiba Mamoru.
And to Tom: gently caress you for not taking a god drat chance, you cowardly loving bitch. "Nope. Everyone has to be straight!" gently caress you.
Remember the lesson GCC teaches us: Be straight, otherwise your peers won't like you. #GunnerkriggCourt #fuckingasshole #badendconfirmed
Now I definitely need to get to work on writing a guide because otherwise the urge to strange that cowardly little prick won't go away.
Yeah, can't do it. Hey @gunnerkrigg - good job sinking ships and ruining the comic, you weak god drat writer.
@gunnerkrigg Can't have the main characters be bi/gay, right? That's for the two designated 'weirdo' characters, huh? gently caress you, you prick.
@gunnerkrigg No, really, it's nice of you to have a 'please stop reading now' arc. Real considerate of you.
@gunnerkrigg - proving that making a bi/gay character the lead isn't worth the trouble. You're really breakin' down barriers there, Tom.
Hey kids: If you're gay, you should be off where you can't be seen. You must be straight. Remember the lessons that @gunnerkrigg taught us.
loving makes me sick. Great, one more generic straight romance with a bland male lead. Good job @gunnerkrigg you loving coward.
Need to go watch @GeorgeTakei say/do things to calm down. Stupid anti-gay bullshit ruining my morning. Off to Youtube I go...

Chibisoma posted:

Really. I'm going to start magically liking Jack and the fact that Tom's ensured we won't get anything resembling a Kat/Annie end?

Great, one more boring-rear end straight romance. Tons of potential lost and for what? Because Tom didn't feel like taking any chances. That's for the two designated 'weird' kids in the comic, huh? Can't have the main characters interested in each other, despite all the little hints (and sometimes not so little ones) dropped all over the place. Must make them straight, boring, and ensure they wind up with the worst characters in the comic.

Yeah, tell me what there is to look forward to with this couple, hoss. You seem to be all for it. Jack's the most boring lead in any romance since Chiba Mamoru from Sailormoon. : There's not a single interesting (or redeeming) thing about him and yet it's looking increasingly like Annie's going to end up with him.

Because straight people, that's why. God forbid GCC take a chance with anything. Nope, must conform to the status quo and leave that gay poo poo to the weirdo characters, right?

Yeah, no. gently caress you and gently caress Tom. I guess it's nice he made a 'please stop reading my webcomic, it's becoming like any other teen romance strip' arc though. Real considerate-like. Always good to see straightforward, boring fuckin' romance blooming. And at the end, they'll have a kid, Annie'll die, and Kat'll be there to talk about the kid's adventures in the school or some other stereotypically generic thing. Because the kids must be like the parents, always and forever.

To be fair, this isn't really quite people freaking out because these characters aren't gay. They're freaking out because it was slightly implied by an official source they might be gay and then that video was immediately taken down and the person that came up with the video was fired. They aren't freaking out because the characters aren't gay, they're freaking out because the idea that the characters might be gay is being treated like it's that this bad thing.
