This episode is loving weird. Like even for Adventure Time weird.

Edit: I wonder how long those ghosts have been in there, begging for forgiveness after they murdered their best friends in a bloodlust.

I don't know. Fin hopping in Jake's mouth and wearing him as a suit was still weirder by far for me.

Also, evil Fin was kind of awesome.

I'm looking forward to the day children's cartoons are allowed to have openly gay characters, but that day is not today

It's coming. Around 5 years for a sidekick and another 5 after that for a protagonist. That's my standing wager anyways.

Simply put, too many kids are OK with being gay these days. Eventually they will grow up and be put into positions of power and the change will become inevitable. Hell, we're already starting to see the signs of it's coming (gay-friendly jokes in kids media).

Also, my money is on Disney being the one to do it. I just have a feeling about it.

I think he meant too many tolerant children for a gay protagonist not to occur, not that there's too much tolerance in general. Or at least I hope that's what he meant

Yeah, that was basically it. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

And I'm pretty confident in my prediction too. I'd totally Toxx myself on it but somehow I doubt that anyone would remember what some jackhole said years ago on the internet in 2016.

The Triumphant posted:

I definitely recognize that, but the difference is that our society recognizes Finn wanting a kiss from Princess Bubblegum as "normal". We expect that in a narrative and it's pretty much a given that our hero will have a crush on the princess. If they just offhandedly mentioned that Marceline also wants to kiss Princess Bubblegum then that is going to start a shitstorm that the show doesn't need.

I wish it weren't this way-- and you're probably right that I didn't phrase my point in a particularly supportive manner --but there's no way to outright introduce the topic of queer sexuality in a kids' show right now without it starting a giant fight. I think that doing little hints and ambiguous statements like this episode did is still pretty far ahead of most other cartoons.

These are pretty much my feelings too. Simple acknowledgement of gay people in kids media is a fight that's overdue to happen, but I'd rather not put AT at risk to have it.

I think that the fans should cut the poo poo and leave the episode as it is and stop making this a big deal. I can't believe the intentions of the writers are still being discussed when they've clearly said their piece on it.

Oh yeah just to be clear, gently caress any sort of proposed censorship. The episode is fine as is and I never would have even made that connection if I hadn't read about it here.

Combine this new revelation about IK's crown with that conversation between Gunther and Marceline's dad and I'd say it's a safe bet that the Ice Kingdom is the most dangerous place in Ooo.

So does anyone else have the sneaking suspicion that in the alpha timeline Fin was the baby that the Ice King sent away before he lost his poo poo completely? It would explain why they went out of their way not to name the baby.

Also, this episode gave me a ton of respect for the Ice King in general. Even after a thousand years of wearing the crown he's still not completely evil. Fin, on the other hand, snapped like a twig in a matter of minutes.
