I emailed Novak, and they said that their Mark II rear sights will work on my Kareen, but their front sights (only available for Mark III BHPs) will not work on my older slide because "the dovetail is to deep."

This seems really unusual, as I've heard of staked-front sight Hi-Powers being dovetailed, and I would consider a second-opinion - this guy is pretty cool, too. http://www.garthwaite.com/

Took my new to me Israeli Mark III out for the first time and was very pleased. Smooth as butter and shot very accurate for me. Has anyone tried to tweak the factory safety to get a more positive "snick"? Was thinking of getting in there and looking at the spring and detent or however it works to see what could be done with the mushiness.

Thanks for the info. Another question: are the 15rd Mec-Gar mags considered to be any less reliable than standard the standard 13rd ones?

For a moment I thought you disassembled some fancy phaser pistol. Sorry, the latest Star Trek Into Darkness commercial was on so I got Trek on the brain.

I broke the gun down again and looked at the safety. I got lucky with some random other spring I found(maybe a Ruger 10/22 trigger spring?) that was the perfect diameter. Clipped coils until I could get the plunger to sit far enough in and the result was MUCH better, though after I reassembled I dropped some oil in there which made it noticeably less positive but still better than factory.

![]() Got me a retired Israeli police FN. It has a cute little Star of David on the side. In spite of the mag safety, the trigger is quite light as it is. There's a little grit, but it's not terrible. One thing I am curious about are import marks. This pistol has none to speak of. It just has the caliber on the chamber, the serials, and "FABRIQUE NATIONALE HERSTAL BELGIQUE." The sights have some dings, but appear fine. I just need to put the white back in them. I can take better pics when I get back to my apartment.

What's the going price on a Hi-Power that will see range use only? I'd like to get an idea of what I should be looking for as far as price. I shot a Hi-Power that belonged to my step-dad that I fell in love with and have wanted one since.

This could potentially go for relatively good price, not real keen on those "armorers marks" though.

Yeah and the price went from "ehhh I could probably live with it" to "gently caress that" in a hurry.

Shot my Hi-Power in an IDPA match today; it still owns. Shooting lower-powered 9mm through it is basically cheating.

I think my pistol shoots quite a bit higher than point of aim. I was plinking at stuff and not at paper, so I'm not sure exactly what was going on there. I'll make a rough guess of 6'' high at 15 yards. I know some military pistols get sighted in for 50 or even 100 meters. Any ideas?

Is your point of aim at the center of the target or at a 6:00 hold?
|
| # ? May 19, 2013 05:07 |
|
If I wanted to hit something, way under. Much lower than a 6:00 hold. I'll just have to put some shots on paper and see what it looks like. Trying to search for something like "Hi-Power shooting too high" just seems to make Google have a fit.

My Inglis does this at the 15-20 yard distances I normally shoot at with it...and I have a feeling its just sighted in for a longer distance...or it could be the result of it being really old and beat up? It does shoot consistently high, so I just adjust and it works fine (and I bought the thing more as a neat old gun and less as a shooter).

![]() Here's a 0.55 inch 3-shot group I shot at 25 yards yesterday with my Gcoledist 1991 Hi-Power (a Belgian police trade-in, I think). This was the second time I had the gun out. I took the shot below it and looked through a spotting scope to see where I was hitting, then did the 3-shot group. If you include the sighter, it's still only a 1.1" group. Now that I got the magazine disconnect out, this gun is really impressing me.
