Yeah, when you can get a <$400 BHP off gunbroker that's in good quality I can't see the point in that gun.

The one I got was super oversprung in the mainspring, but swapping it out for a C&S target kit made it great.

I don't know if that's a general thing or just the Hi-Power sold to me under false advertising by Royal Tiger Imports. It may be that other refinished Hi-Powers are of significantly higher quality than the ones sold by Royal Tiger Imports and advertised as "like new." Here is what Royal Tiger Imports defines as "like new:" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I wouldn't be bitter about it if they hadn't seen the above photos, told me to send it back, and then once they had both my gun and money, fed me BS before ignoring emails and phone calls. This is the BS to which I refer: quote:To: <Fang> It took contesting the charges with my credit card company to get them to pay attention to me. Their explanation for the two weeks they had my property and waited for me to go away: "We're a small company." Don't see that changing any time soon. I'm still out sales tax and transfer fees for the gun, so I'm sharing my $85 lesson with you: Do not buy from the shitbirds at Royal Tiger Imports. Is there any real harm to a bit of pitting under a refinish? my mk 1 FN Hi-Power has some patches here and there.

So long as it's not on any of the operating surfaces, it's just ugly and lovely and means you got a beater gun someone tried to dress up as something nicer.

GEEKABALL posted:If you go back a couple of pages you will see why I agree with you. The one I received from Royal Tiger Import is pretty beat up, but does not have that terrible pitting (probably due to what looks like at least two different layers of some kind of epoxy coating). Mine also came with a blasted out importer mark. There's no harm with that pitting and the gun looked fine internally. However, their site said they only had "like new" condition remaining for an additional $150. The photo on their website showed a pristine parkerized finish with nice sharp edges, so I figured it was representative of what they were selling. $550 for an essentially brand-new FN with a fresh finish is worth the money. It should be noted that at some point after I sent them my photos, they first changed the "like new" surcharge info, so the price was just $550. Then they later changed their product photos.

I'm not trying to imply Fang did anything wrong (because those people are apparently shitlords), but all of that is why there is a VERY loving short list of companies that I will buy surplus from without pictures of the actual item, not some best case scenario stock photo. If it's something that you know is going to be beat up or show normal heavy-ish finish wear, that's one thing. But any time they claim that the product is "like new" or "in near unissued condition" or some other variation on "cosmetically perfect" with a weasel word thrown in front, I better be able to see pictures of what, exactly, I'm getting.

So I couldn't get that M80 yesterday because my FFL was out all day (he's one of those dudes that works out of a shed in his backyard), but I got it this morning. I test fired it a few hours later, and I have to say that I'm really happy with this gun. The trigger is a bit mushy, but it's fairly accurate, very smooth, and very controllable. Follow-on shots were really easy. It also feels super comfortable in my hand. It had a perfect shiny barrel (advertised as "mint") and came with a new Mec-Gar mag, which can be reloaded with a Glock speedloader. There were only a few cosmetic imperfections, mostly on the grips. This M80 was a legit HP clone, the barrel has a barrel cam lug and is not a P9M or M5906-style barrel. In the future, I will get this thing ceracoated OD green with flat black trigger & other small parts, and install some really nice grips. Thank you, OP, or whoever came up with the thread title.

So I took out the mag disconnect in my Hi Power. It works, but the trigger is floppy as hell? I don't ever feel a click for when the trigger resets. Or is that just the thing with the Hi Power trigger? Feels like there is a lot of play? Is there a way to "tighten" up the trigger?

I'm not really sure if there's a way to tighten up the trigger so that you feel a definite reset. You could get a stronger return spring so it's not flopping around. The whole trigger/fire control system of the Hi Power is minorly Rube Goldberg-y since the trigger pushes up a pivot pin thing into a lever that's embedded in the slide, and the lever is what interacts with the sear, which is in the frame. It's all over the place.

"minorly Rube Goldberg-y" is an apt description of the Hi-Power trigger linkage FWIW, my (FM) HP never had a definite "click" reset before or after removing the disconnect. I think it's just the nature of the design.

chiming in with my new manufacture BHP not having an audible, or really felt at all, click. but like sadwhalefamily said, if it is flopping around, that isn't ok, and you need a heavier return spring. I usually end up shooting this gun as I do with S&W's polymer pistols, as they have a reset that is just as bad. basically I don't ride the reset like I do with my glock or 1911, I just slack the trigger every time, takes some getting used to coming from a glock which is very easy to know where the reset is, but now I'd say I shoot the BHP just as well as I shoot my glock
