Ground floor of what's sure to be a great thread! Also, that Finn HP is absolutely gorgeous. I'm digging that Inglis too. Apparently they still make washing machines, I saw one on sale here in California last week. To contribute, pics of my FN HP in 40 S&W:

A little info to go with the pics: From what I understand, the 40 S&W guns were built on a thicker, cast frame as opposed to the earlier guns being built on forged frames. This was done to ensure the gun would be able to stand up to the battering that the 40 S&W round generated. In addition to the thicker frame and heavier slide, the spring rates of both the mainspring and recoil spring were increased, as is evidenced by the greater force required to work the slide vs. the 9mm guns.

The barrel also was built with 3 locking lugs instead of the 2 found in the 9mm version of the gun. Unfortunately, this means the 9mm barrels are not a direct drop in, meaning that in order to change calibers, special conversion barrels are needed. I'm probably gonna buy a .357 Sig conversion for the hell of it next paycheck.

My particular pistol was built in 2003 according to the serial number. These guns are no longer imported by FN, which is a drat shame, as I love the black coating FN applied to most of their guns from the FN49 on. I'm currently looking for a 9mm FN marked gun from the same time period.

Here is my FN Hi Power chilling with its Israeli 9mm cousin.

I hate to be a dick about this, but isn't the Jericho related to the CZ 75, not the Hi Power?

I live in California so I can't buy that Argentinian HP from J&G (which was about to be my second pistol). Can anyone recommend a California legal HP?

The Browning-branded guns are pretty much the only game in town if you're looking for brand new, and they're on the roster to boot. They also seem to retail for just a hair under $1000. If you're looking for used, the FN guns are still on the roster despite having been discontinued by FN themselves (in the US). I bought one on consignment about a year ago and it's awesome.

Your best bet is to keep an eye on the for sale board over at Calguns. Lots of Hi Powers have gone up for sale in the last few months.

A few posters here have FM clones, and they appear to be the poo poo. Mechanically identical copies of the FN/Browning guns, and at a really reasonable price. If you can get one, do it. I wish I could but I'll have to make due with abusing my Chuck Daly when I pick it up Wednesday.

Oh hey, what do we have here? It looks like some sort of plastic box...

I wonder what could possibly be inside? Oh of course, my new Chuck Daly Hi power in 9mm. Shown below in pretty much stock form, with the extended safety and Uncle Mike's rubber grips. Also, a couple of Mec-Gar 10 round mags.

Here's a picture of the Hi-Viz Express sights. Please ignore my ridiculously hairy hands.

In all, I'm pretty happy with the fit and finish of the pistol. The machining, while not in the same league as my FN, is still very good, and the frame to slide fit is also very good, and at only half the price. In terms of finish however, I honestly prefer the black epoxy on the FN to the Daly's matte bluing. Overall though the bluing on this gun is decent, if a little thin in some areas.
As far as the mechanical differences between the 2 pistols, I like the extended safety on this gun a lot. Engagement is crisp and positive, and the lever extends perfectly in line with the thumb. The sights I'm not really sure about yet, but I think they'll be at least serviceable. I've read a lot of positive things about them, so we'll see. I wasn't sure what to expect for under $400 out the door but i think I'll get my money's worth. I can't wait to try it out this weekend.

Sorry to jam this in here, I just didn't want to cram yet another box thread on the front page.
