A Fistful of Owls posted:When the whole "CHANGE YOUR PICTURE TO A CARTOON TO END CHILD ABUSE" campaign was going strong I wrote a post asking people to change their facebook pictures to high heeled shoes as a way of generically ending all forms of violence against women. A few of my friends and I each changed our own pictures and wrote self-congratulatory posts every day and then finally announced at the end of the week that we'd fixed the problem. There was a counter-campaign to this running rampant around the 30-40-year old Facebook users here where someone said that this was actually a pedophile invention, because changing your avatar to a childs cartoon picture would lead to ???? which would, uhm, be good for pedophiles. It's a bit goonsay but man, it's sad how "wont somebody PLEASE think of the children!"-type arguments can gain so much ground unopposed.

It's probably because I'm not American but man that dude sounds smug and annoying as all hell, not to mention belittling. I mean, going from "what's your point? make it quick." to that patriotic and not really thought through diatribe and then writing it off as a "lesson"... Come on.

err posted:It's on my feed as well. Are they getting money for linking images that draw on the emotions of people? In some there's not even an element of anything beyond simple recognition - there's no "oh, I remember this " but instead "Yes. I haven't been s harp enough lately to come up with anything to come back with. Well, if it said 5 seconds it would be much less effort to prove it wrong.
