Someone in some police department somewhere in America needs to take the Christopher Meloni role and bounce this guy off some walls because my God.

Well, if you want to be able to identify him (just in case he returns), I believe he's on the left in this picture. He's almost definitely this guy here, since he mentions his green hoodie in one of his blog posts. He's got an old (2005) picture way down at the bottom of his "People" page. You can pick him out of his photos pretty easily once you've got a handle on him, but I don't know if you could recognize him in real life. He's pretty nondescript. Looks a bit like Mookie (of Dominic Deegan webcomic mock fame) might, after a haircut.

Interesting bits: He's using an iPhone 4, which is leaking GPS tagging every time he posts a picture. That's not too helpful, though, since he's moving around; he posts the photos at least a few days out of date. He has posted to his website a few times from it, though, and he's turned on IP logging, so I can tell it's a Verizon iPhone. A police department could probably take that to Verizon and get account information from there.

You can also just go to the YouTube channel someone posted on the last page, he's in a lot of those videos.

As for actually getting him in jail, the fact that he seems to be moving all over the loving place makes it slightly more difficult, since, you know, I don't know how much jurisdiction cops in one state would have over crimes committed/crimes they suspect he committed in a different state entirely.

I'm also not sure if all of the stuff he's posted online (creepy videos and pictures of girls, chat logs, etc) could be given to law enforcement as a sort of "look there's a creepy motherfucker in your state, just so you know" thing, or if there's nothing that can be done unless an actual victim of his steps up and goes to the police, but I'm trying to figure that out now.

That being said, if we know he's in Nevada right now:

That looks like a really good option. It looks like they follow through and look at every report, and it's specifically about online behaviors, so they wouldn't mind getting a report from some people who just have seen this guy's stuff online.

I know there's that entry about him and his friend creeping on the 16/17 year olds, but are there other journal entries, etc. where he goes after/flirts with/solicits underaged girls?

They seem like very different cases, though. Just from reading Wikipedia, Sodini was constantly rejected and hadn't had sex for 19 years. I can see why that would make a guy pretty angry, and angry at women in particular. I can see how a man with anger issues and 19 years of pent-up resentment could snap and just start shooting the people he perceives to be responsible. Sodini's crime, reprehensible as it is, screams of emotion - rage, hatred, loneliness, depression. The ballistic culmination of two decades of an abnormal man's failed attempts at normal life. There is, at least, something.

This guy, though. This guy. There's nothing. There's no emotion. There's not even hatred, at least not to a screaming-at-the-walls level like Sodini probably reached. It feels dull, primal and animalistic, like a dog growling in the night at a shadow it doesn't recognise. It seems like somewhere along the line that constant background hum of disgust at every other human being got crossed with sex and manifested as a compulsion to degrade women, both by reducing them to percentages as well as listing what he does to them on a public website.

Sodini was an explosion. This guy is a compulsion. Somehow that's a whole lot more terrifying.

This is a really thoughtful analysis, and I think you're right. I guess the similarities I saw lay in just the overwhelming hatred both of them have for women, even if one presented it as fury and the other as contempt and objectfication.

As far as I can tell, the crimes he has admitted to are:

1. Possession of amphetamines--While a crime, I doubt you'd get the police interested in tracking down some guy in a van over internet posts about his possession of that amount of drugs.

2. Sexual assault (masturbating on some woman he was sleeping with while she was sleeping)--I think you're unlikely to interest the police in that without some other evidence beyond his internet post, or at least a complaint from the woman in question.

I haven't seen him admit to actually having sex with anyone underage, or to any other offenses that are likely to interest the police. But I'll admit I haven't read anywhere close to everything.

While I doubt you'll interest the police at this point from what I've seen, what might get results would be ensuring that the women featured on his website know they are on there. A complaint brought by one of them might be more likely to have an effect. That's assuming, of course, that they don't already know about the website, or that they would be interested in doing something about it. Getting internet detectived by a bunch of goons might be pretty creepy for them too, though, so you'd have to be careful about that one. In the end, though, the only result from that might be the removal of the website, which wouldn't do much to get him off the streets.

As you mention, part of the problem is that he's moving from place to place in a van. As I pointed out earlier, no particular police department would be able to keep an eye on him, and I don't think they'd be willing to issue an all points bulletin on "creepy internet guy."

I think that's part of the problem here--he hasn't (as far as I can tell) said he's going to attack any particular person, or commit any particular crime. He has just posted a lot of really creepy fantasies. He does mention specific women in some of the fantasies, and if one of the women were to file a complaint with the police or his hosting provider that might be enough to get the website removed and maybe a restraining order issued to protect the woman, but I don't think it would be enough to get him convicted of anything.

I don't really know anything about the VGTF, so I don't know what their threshold is. If there's anything about him actually contacting someone underage, that might be something. I know he posts a lot of chats; if one of them was with someone underage that might get him in some trouble, or at least give them some reason to keep an eye on him. He mentions masturbating to his "jailbait folder" at one point, too; if jailbait=child porn, that would be something (there are a lot of definitions of "jailbait" floating around, though, so who knows. I definitely wouldn't put it past him, though).

Edit: Oh, and I think he talks about having guns, too-I don't know anything about gun laws or laws about interstate transportation of them, though, so I don't know if he's likely to have done anything wrong. Probably nothing there, though.

drat, I was hoping he was dumb enough to have something like an unregistered sawn-off or some clear violation. He's clearly being an idiot with them but they're legitimate for him to have, unless he's got a felony conviction he's not mentioning. It's possible he broke some state laws if he's been driving around in his van with them, but it would depend on which states he drove through and the particular laws of those states (things like that are state-by-state so making sense of how to transport firearms across state boundaries can be a clusterfuck) and law enforcement isn't going to travel across state lines to find a guy who broke some law about having a gun in a vehicle.

It seems like he keeps straddling the boundary between creepy and criminal.

EDIT: He may have broken MA law bringing the P-95 into the state in his van, but they didn't catch him while he was there so it's a moot point now. Also god drat is he a nutter, I didn't actually read the blog until now.

All right. So I emailed someone from the Nevada Coalition Against Social Violence, basically saying, here's this website with this really creepy guy, here's where he threatens sexual violence against women, here's a few recent creepy entries, is there anything legally that can be done? And I received a response.

quote:

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention. What I would like to do at this point is to contact Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. I have several people I work with over there who would like to be see if this is something they can look into. While I cannot make any guarantees on what will happen they can definitely look into it better than I can. I can either just forward your email in its entirety to Metro or I can eliminate your identifying information. Let me know which you would prefer,.

However I do need to tell you that the age of consent in Nevada is 16, so if he has in fact had sex with a 16 year old as long as no force, drugs, or alcohol were involved it is legal. Simply speaking about or even threatening surprise sex is also not necessarily an illegal activity. If it done in as part of “fantasy speech”, it is considered free speech.

So there's that. Like everyone's been saying for a few pages, I doubt there's anything that he could be actually arrested on, but at least someone will be looking at it.
