So, a few weeks back my 15-22 fired out of battery and hosed up the extractor. S&W wants it back for service. I've never shipped a rifle before, where do you guys go to get rifle-sized unmarked boxes? The factory box is covered in SAFETY WARNINGS and logos. Is a cheap hard case acceptable for mailing, and will they return it with the repaired rifle? If that won't work, would I be out of line to ask a local shop if they have a box I can use? Or should I just get a larger box from Wal Mart, cut it up, and wrap the factory box in plain cardboard?
Go to a place that sells guns and ask if they have any of the boxes they received them in. That's what I do for guitars, anyway, so I'd think it'd work for guns!

The 92DS is a DAO and the lever just functions as a safety. The 92D is also DAO and has no lever at all. If you want an SA/DA without a decocker, there are none from the factory like that, but someone mentioned you can put a 92D slide on a 92FS frame to accomplish that.

At a gun show a couple days ago, a very nice lady running a table had a blued Ruger Bearcat sitting there with the cylinder and roll mark engraving all filled in with gold. It looked seriously awesome, especially since it matched the gold in the grip screw and trigger guard. She kinda told me how she did it, in that she rubbed some gold something or other in there and then wiped away the excess, but she didn't tell me exactly what she used. She did mention that it could be removed with mineral spirits. Any ideas?

In my opinion, CZ 75s have a perfectly lovely DA pull. Not long or heavy at all. Dunno about reset because I don't have one in front of me, sorry.

Also consider these from the same seller. It's basically the same gun with a flattened and serrated trigger guard and a ring hammer instead of a spur hammer. I'm a sucker for ring hammers, though.

They're sorta-local to me, so I'd just stop by there and try them out firsthand. Just to make sure I'm not being an idiot: the DA is straight up "hammer doesn't need to be cocked at all just pull trigger and it goes bang", right? I mean, I think so, but then I'm way overthinking the line in that wall-o-text that reads, "The .227 wide serrated spur hammer has a half cock position for safety-off double action carry."
That's correct. The CZ will fire in DA if you pull the trigger with the safety off. Doesn't matter if the hammer is all the way down or half-cocked. Half-cock just keeps the hammer from resting on the firing pin when you're carrying it.

Can I get a decent resonator guitar for $200? What should I look for?

I haven't played guitar. I played violin for a few years as a kid, and oboe for about a year, no other real musical background.
I doubt you'll find a decent resonator under $500. What do you want to do with it? Just slide, or for strumming as well? Do you have a preference between wood body and metal body?

The main thing you should look for in any guitar if you've never played before is whether or not the neck feels good to you. This is moot if you're only planning on playing slide - you can even get a square neck and call it even. If you're planning on playing it like a standard acoustic, the neck becomes a big concern. This is a big part of why I'd never advise anyone order their first guitar online - go out and play a few first. Even if you don't know how to play a single note, hold some in your hands and see what feels good.

CZ Custom won't do it because it would leave the gun without a manual safety for an SAO, and a lot of smiths don't work on CZs, sooooo good luck with that one. I'd stick with a trigger job and leave it SA/DA.

My Ruger Mk III is not extracting snap caps. It pulls them about halfway out, but then the rim of the cartridge falls out of the extractor claw and gets caught on the magazine feed lips. It extracts live rounds okay, but I'm worried this is a sign of my extractor failing. What's the deal? It's always worked fine before, but last time I took it out, I fired a box of 50 CCI Stingers through it. Maybe the rounds were too much for the gun to handle?

No, the rounds are not too much for the gun to handle. Modern .22LR of any sort will not damage your Ruger.

Are they snap caps, or those action proving dummies? If you actually dry-fire on most .22LR dummies, the rims will get shredded because it's apparently hard to make actual rimfire snap caps.

Also, clean under your extractor.
I don't actually dry fire .22 caps, I just use them for loading/unloading and testing functions that don't involve pulling the trigger.

FONV handles it pretty well: as long as the gun is in ~70% to 100% condition, it will run fine, shoot straight, and not gently caress up. As the condition drops below 70 and lower, accuracy and damage begin to suffer a little. At about 30% and below, the weapon will start to jam up on reloads, more frequently as it drops lower, but your character clears them automatically. Gameplay wise, it just means you have a good chance of reloads taking much longer if your gun is in poo poo shape. Also, hotter or dirtier loads (like magnum shotshells or bulk surplus ammo) wear the gun faster.

Fallout 3 didn't have that plateau of 'gun is fine' between 70 and 100 percent. In that game, its functional condition (accuracy and damage) start degrading as soon as you start shooting it, which is silly.

Double posting - The Cabelas in Phoenix has Henry .22 lever actions for like $230. They worth it at that price, or should I wait for a Marlin lever .22?
For what it's worth, I have a Henry .22 and I like it quite a bit. Accuracy is lovely, sights are good, and it's a lot of fun. The lever is also by far the smoothest of any of the .22 leverguns I compared. That said, the receiver cover is thin aluminum (not a mechanical problem but it feels cheap) and the metal finish is pretty unimpressive. Also, every now and then it'll fail to chamber a round and jam up in the receiver. I've mentioned this to other Henry owners and they don't seem to have this problem, so maybe it's just mine.

I'm quite happy with the gun, especially for what I paid for it, but if you find a good price on a BLR or something, I'd buy that instead. The Henry is GREAT for what it is: a lower cost lever action .22 that sacrifices little in function to meet its budget price tag.
