Same story with B5, Warner Brothers claims B5 as a loss, but JMS says that their losses include every set of a cancelled TV pilot they could tag onto B5's "costs."

The quote from JMS is something along the lines of "if a warehouse in India burns down, it gets charged to B5."

And if you look closely at the DVD screenshot and compare it to the original 4:3 version, you'll notice the 4:3 version has sharper details. The yellow "windows" on that large green ship in the foreground are crisper, and you can see hull texture lines better. And the starfield in the background is also more visible in the 4:3 version. B5's CGI looks better on my VHS tapes of B5 aired in 4:3 than it does on the blurry 16:9 DVD version.

I know everyone loves widescreen and all, including me, but I would have been OK with a 4:3 DVD release that didn't suffer with all the effects-shot problems.

Edit: Hell, I wonder how easy it would be for them to do an HD remaster of B5, in 4:3 ratio, like the Star Trek TOS blu-rays. Although the effects shots would still be dated, it would still allow them to be seen at their best, without spending a fortune re-rendering all the CGI for 16:9.

The plan was to re-render the effects in the future when computers could do it better, so they never bothered to save a decent copy of the renders. Seriously, just read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5#Mastering_problems
That link should go in the OP of every Babylon5 thread, because it always comes up.

The tragedy is that JMS actually wanted to save a copy of all the render data, but Warner Bros said "hey, we really want you to leave it. we'll take care of it, just don't make your own copy." and JMS believed them.

And then he had to go to fan models to do the CGI for lost tales.

The album's not too hard to find if you know where to look. I really can't tell if it's any good or not, because I lose my poo poo every time Londo starts singing.

I couldn't tell it was Jurasik at first Andre Katsulas sounds exactaly like G'kar singing which is amazing.

In "Tell me How" (which is everybody) it's Londo. In "When You Were By My Side" (which is just Peter Jurasik) you could only hear Londo poke through a few times. And Bill Mumy doesn't sound anything like Lenir, maybe because when he's singing he's putting a ton of power into it, and as Lenir he always spoke softly.

I realise this may be a bit spergy but the destruction of the station was completely unnecessary. An O'neill Cylinder does not become 'redundant'. Thats like saying we don't need Gloucestershire in the UK anymore.

It's not a self supporting structure, and basically leaves on docking fees. If nobody docks there, no docking fees, no money to support it.

I never got the hate for TKO, because I always liked that episode.

Then I read the description, discovered that I was confusing TKO with Gropos. I don't even remember TKO, which is probably for the best.

It doesn't actually exist in HD. It was only filmed for regular TV resolutions originally and due to losing some of the original computer models the special effects couldn't even be cleaned up without having to redo them from scratch. Unfortunately the amount of money and energy it would take to rehab the show to a noticeably higher quality far outstrips the likely market for it.

Based on sales of the Lost Tales DVD, that's probably not true, but Warner hates JMS and refuses to give him any money ever.
