Palleon posted:Keffler or whoever that pilot was that was shoehorned into season 2 then only got back to the station by following a shadow ship. If memory serves, wasn't he forced onto JMS by the network anyhow? This was the first opportunity to write the bleeder out without upsetting someone Up High.

Ensign_Ricky posted:The news about the Martian civil war reports someone saying that the sands of Mars will "run red with Earther blood." Sure it sounds cool...but isn't that a little redundant? Mars isn't really very red. ed: well, all Mars iamges are false-colour, really, but it's a chuckup for blueish/redish. Kerbtree fucked around with this message at Jan 14, 2011 around 14:53 |

Devil Wears Wings posted:I'm about to finish up yet another B5 run-through (holy poo poo does this series still kick rear end) and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend another good sci-fi epic to sate my appetite after I'm done. In the past I've watched through BSG, Farscape, Firefly, and Lexx (though that last one is more comedy/parody than the others) and enjoyed them all to varying extents. I also tried watching the first 3-4 seasons of DS9 and found it too bland for my tastes (an earlier poster used the word "fluffy" and I'm inclined to agree). Is there anything essential that I've missed? What about Space: Above and Beyond, if you like BSG stuff? It's got R Lee Ermery shouting at people, 'grit', cloned James Morrison, multiple arced stories, and at one point, Coolio.

micnato posted:I need some words of encouragement. I hear season 3 is amazing, and I am excited about 5-season story arcs and whatnot, but I'm halfway through season 1 and it just feels like work. I feel like I should like this show, and I really want to, but I don't care about any of the characters and the acting is SO loving BAD. I can't wait for Sheridan to go die or whatever happens to him. Do I need to just face the possibility that this show is not for me? Should I just skip ahead and watch a few season 3 episodes and see what I think? As mentioned by others, things mesh together tighter the further you go along. Also, you could give the commentaries a bash, too. The JMS ones are pretty interesting, and the cast ones are hillarious "I had hair!" Staggering stories have got a handful of good watchalongs for some of season 1 up, too.

his kingly woes posted:Marcus is the worst character by far, he never serves any purpose in the plot and has no personality aside from being charmingly sarcastic and virginal. Even Zack is more interesting and at least has an arc. At first though, sure you'd think goony Marcus was the worst character, but but you'd be wrong. ![]() ed: completely unrelated, but when I bought bab5, back when each season came in the big card box with half a dozen thin cases, I used to get pissed right off having dropped fifty quid for the set only to have every single case and the box itself have one of those Kerbtree fucked around with this message at Jun 9, 2011 around 20:45 |

FairGame posted:Maybe I'm imagining things (it's been a while since I've broken out my dvds) but I thought Netflix stretched the aspect ratio or something, and also cut out the interstitial "BABYLON 5! Here's some fanfare" commercial stuff that plagued S1. The CGI was stored as 4:3, to get it to 1.78:1 for DVD they were stretched. On the other hand, I'll bet your netflix is rocking a lower bitrate than a dvd. Does netflix have the commentaries? If not, you're missing out.
