It sure left an impression on 10-year old me. 009-1 is an unrelated anime based on a manga by the same author. The 2001 Cyborg 009 is quite good, although it's hard to find the entire series in english since only the first half was licensed. RE:Cyborg apparently isn't very good, I haven't seen it because the CG puts me off. The Critic

It was goofy and still kind of messed up in the same vein as the original, and even if some characters had received a much needed redesign the show stayed true to the original. Not like the RE:Cyborg anime which just looks like someone REALLY wanted to make a GitS movie but only could afford the Cyborg 009 license. 60s anime is almost infinitely giffable Cyborg 009 (1968)  The Flying Phantom Ship, which is also by the creator of Cyborg 009, and one of the earliest movies Hayao Miyazaki was an animator on.
