I got an invite in the post for a special Christmas Lego event at the store. Apparently I have to rsvp by phone and everything. Do they give a lot of these out or am I just really lucky? Or am I just really gullible and they know I spend loads of cash on bricks?

Of course, being just a kid, I could never actually build these since they didn't provide instructions. I imagine someone has to have "reverse engineered" them and put their instructions for doing so online, right?

I always fudged it, I didn't find it too difficult to get somewhat close to the example projects. I like how the Creator line has taken that ambiguity away and provided instructions for every permutation on the box.

School holidays here and we went away for the week, expecting rain and bad weather so loaded up with Lego. Kid had a few of the Minecraft sets and I was actually pretty impressed with them. When people joke about modern Lego being all custom single-use parts, these are like the exact opposite. Loads of standard 2X2 and 2X4 bricks and my kid actually did more creative building with these than he'd done with anything since he had Duplo. It's a good license, well executed and really captures the spirit of Lego as a building toy. Although, I get the feeling this line is going to be better known for people reselling the minifigures on ebay. I'd be amazed if they didn't have a Minecraft CMF series (similar to the Simpsons) at some point though, just seems like a no-brainer. I got the Agents truck for me. I'm a sucker for any kind of mobile command center. I think I'm going to collect them.

Rainy day today, so working on my backlog. The non UCS Millennium Falcon is a pretty great set. BIG ship, all classic minifigs, fun build that's not too tedious even though it's pretty symmetrical. I have no idea where I'm going to store it.

So driving off the lego road for a bit put me in a Tuesday Morning where I found a Nanoblock set (Mont St. Michel). Wow, these things are not worth the premium prices they want you to pay. It was just a tedious boring build that only sorta looks like what it says it does. It also suffers from long towers and single stud rows that just fall off if you look at them wrong. Back to Legos, anyone have the Car/T-rex creator set? How is it? Does the car do anything but roll (like have doors or a hood)? That White car spoiled the poo poo out of me,

I bought myself an used Lego set. It came partially disassembled, so the last few days i have been disassembling it and counting the various pieces. Not counting the discoloring on some of the pieces, almost all the pices feels dirty. Sticky almost. My fingers feels weird and have this thin white'ish layer of grime on them after a few hours of disassembly, and i literally found a booger on one of the pieces. How can i get this gunk off my Lego? We are talking thousands of pieces, so i'd rather not have to individually clean each and every one of them with soap and brush. I have googled this, and found a lot of discussions, many of them quite old, and many of them in the "i think you can" category. I am reluctant about mixing my expensive plastic pieces with various chemicals recommended by self proclaimed chemists that don't exactly inspire a lot of confidence when they write that they haven't even tried the procedures themselves. Things i have seen recommended: Putting Lego in the dishwasher (in a mesh bag) (Will this hav any hope of cleaning the pieces in the middle of the bag?) Putting Lego in the laundry machine (in a pillow case) (Wont the constant tubmling of pieces grind/smooth down the edges?) Putting Lego in a bucket with hot water and chlorine (won't chlorine bleach the plastic?) What should i do to get the grime, dirt and boogers of my Lego?

It worked really well and didn't damage anything. I did pull large trans pieces out (windshields, windows, and canopies) 'cause I was afraid they'd get cloudy but the small trans pieces I left in seemed fine afterwards. I was talking to a buddy at work who's way more into LEGO than I am yesterday about this exact thing. He also retrieved his childhood bricks a few years ago and ended up cleaning them all with a toothbrush and a water + dish soap solution, which seems insane to me if you have a lot of bricks to clean. But he also said that since both of his parents are smokers, all the white bricks had discolored pretty badly. He said he soaked them in OxiClean then laid them out in the sun for a few hours, which bleached them back to their original white without damaging them.

Yeah, I've had good luck cleaning plastic just by putting it in a tub of warm water with soap and gently agitating it. Soap really works wonders against normal oil and dirt. I'd be wary of the dishwasher because it might be too hot, and the clothes washer is basically doing the same thing I described above plus an unneeded spin cycle. If soap doesn't work, then you might step up to more powerful cleaners.

Pretty well-diluted OxyClean worked for me, and this was after the washing machine trick and dish soap and a brush (because gently caress that much scrubbing). The thing to do is make sure they soak long enough and make sure they rinse well enough and then air dry them. Be prepared to soak them a couple times if tobacco smoke was involved. Most of the really esoteric methods are for reversing yellowing from UV damage, which is something I'm not terribly concerned about. It affected a lot of my old dark grey pieces, but that's it.

It was very very quiet in the store today, so I used a bunch of spare and loose parts I had to make another little spaceship. I present to you gentlemen the Elanus-class Bomber. Designed for fleets that rely heavily upon small strike craft, the Elanus-class Bomber serves in a dedicated anti-capital ship role. It's sole offensive armaments are a pair of warhead launchers positioned on the front of the craft.  These launchers are capable of housing a number of small to middling-sized warheads for various mission profiles. Alternatively, the warhead launchers can be replaced with a system that weaponizes the bomber reactor's plasma by launching globs of highly energetic matter. While it inflicts severe damage, reactor plasma is not without its drawbacks. Because it cannot home in on targets, plasma is more suitable for use on very slow or stationary targets. The use of weaponized reactor plasma also robs the craft of speed and maneuverability, as more energy is diverted from the engines for offensive purposes.  The Elanus-class Bomber is also equipped with a pair of powerful sensor arrays, which aid in acquiring and maintaining locks on targets when armed with warheads, even when the enemy employs ECM. If the bomber is using weaponized plasma instead of warheads, the sensor arrays can be swapped out for a small ECM suite to make it more difficult for enemy ships to target it as it makes bombing runs.  The ship is equipped with three medium-sized engines, which allow it to perform sufficient evasive maneuvers to avoid enemy fire. As a dedicated bomber, however, it is still highly recommended that they fly with figher escorts.

We were in the Lego Store in Woodfield mall in Schaumburg a few weeks ago and I asked about it when I finally picked up an ExoSuit (plenty of those in stock). He said they get a few in weekly and they are sold out within a few hours. I think he said the trucks come in Monday morning fwiw.
