But yeah, once you adjust the meaning of big to describe bodybuilders and large powerlifters, I know we are talking 250lbs and poo poo. I am, on average, 183 and your height. I don't look bad, but most people wouldn't consider me "big." Big, at least for "normal people" like you seem to want, is 190+, and at your rate of gain you're going to be there in your mid-twenties. My rate of gain is 1lb/week when I put my mind to it. I have been gaining a pound a week for months now. I got set back at one point due to an internship that brought me back down to 145 after I had made it up to 155 and now I got it all back plus more and I'm still gaining a pound a week. Edit: more importantly, the picture of TheFace at his lowest is a place that I think looks good for my goals (although with smaller bf%.. no offense) wacky fucked around with this message at Aug 14, 2010 around 17:45 |

I want to get as low as I feel comfortable and then start getting really hardcore into filling out with muscle.

Why? It'll be way harder to put muscle on from a really low weight. Body fat is a huge advantage when trying to get bigger and stronger. You should exploit it while you've still got it. The beautiful thing about starting from fat as opposed to skinny is that you can eat at a deficit, get leaner, and still make decent gains. This will not be as easy to do if you start out from a very low body weight.

Okay. Mad props to everyone in this thread. Great work! It's been a long time since I've posted in one of these, but since I'm almost done with my cut to 200, I figured I'd post here. Pic on the left is from 2006: 175 lbs, 14% bf Right is from a last month 2010: 210 lbs, 11% bf Currently sitting at about 205, 10% bf. Cutting to 200 ~9-10%. My goal is to drop my 5k to sub 19 and also be competitive in the Clydesdale class in cycling. My lifts were sitting at about 330 bench/445 squat/510 deadlift at 6'3" 220lbs. I've lost about 10% of my strength over the course of my two month cut from 220 to 205. I expect to lose maybe 2% more, overall, which isn't too bad.

I've waited a long time to be able to post in here. I'm feeling pretty good about myself today (though it was my birthday on Friday and I probably fell off the wagon a bit), so I guess I'll go ahead and give transformation post a go. I'm by no means finished, but a 110 lb loss in less than a year is definitely enough to qualify as an ultimate transformation. 340 lbs, 6'3": October 1st 2009, 22 years old Shirt: 3XL Pants: 48x32 carpenter fit ![]() 230 lbs, 6'3": August 13th 2010, 23rd birthday Shirt: Large Pants: 34x32 Levi 505's normally, pictured are 34 shorts ![]() Don't judge my clothes, I had a nice relaxing day around the house and just kind of put on whatever. Neat, slightly outdated progress chart ![]() I feel absolutely incredible. I spent the last hour or so combing through my Pictures folder looking at all my old fat photos from college and it makes me feel like a completely different person. There are still days where I have that fat kid mentality (I haven't weighed what I do now since middle school) and feel bigger than I actually am, but taking a trip down memory lane like this makes me feel awesome. Since I'm tall, I am not entirely sure where I'd like to stop with the weight loss. I'm going to see how I look/feel in about 20 to 30 pounds and then decide from there. Long story short: I went from being hideously fat and depressed about it all throughout high school/college, then I graduated and made a total lifestyle change, lost 110 pounds, got a hot boyfriend, and now life is good.

I run into people who look shockingly similar to me (or at least, similar to how I used to look) all the time, though. The only thing that I wish I could really improve upon would be this excess skin, but that's going to be a factor of time + filling it in with muscle instead of fat, I guess. But I don't really have any desire to be anywhere near as built as some of the people who post in this thread.

Do mean you regret it because there was no reason to lose weight first and then start lifting? Or do you regret it because there were some consequences to losing weight (e.g. loose skin) that you could have avoided had you started lifting from the beginning? Sorry to be pedantic, just curious.

Having muscle even at higher weights will make you appear slimmer because you'll have better proportions and better posture. People with muscle "carry" their weight better and look less doughy. Plus weightlifting helps metabolism and you'll be able to make some good strength gains as a beginner no matter if you're losing weight or not. "Waiting til I'm skinny" just takes longer and postpones the time til you're actually looking good.

zaff posted:Can you expound on this statement? I regret not lifting weights when I was heavier for the following reasons: 1. In many cases, lifting while fat gives you a higher starting strength than lifting when rail thin. 2. Muscle helps you drop weight easier as it will burn calories by itself without added work. Working out to gain muscle also helps you burn calories. Win win. 3. If I had started when I was fat, I'd (presumably) be lifting more now, as I would have started higher and hopefully lost little to no strength throughout the process. 4. It's easier to gain muscle while you're fat and cut weight than it is to cut weight then try gaining muscle. While this may not be the case literally, it's definitely a psychological mindset you get yourself into that makes you think "dammit, why didn't I do this forever ago?"
