HOLD ON GUYS I'M POSTING ABOUT INTERNET ROBOTS

Drunkboxer posted:

I'm late to the party but man, the Goldfinger episode of James Bonding was a missed opportunity. There's so much stuff there to talk about and make jokes about but the guests just can't stop being shocked that James Bond is sexist and silly. I guess it's some kind of schtick?

I didn't much care for that one either. Alie and Georgia show up again in episode 18 too, but thats an extra one from wondercon that doesn't cover a specific film. I think every other episode is pretty good though.

I felt like I was being scolded going thru the later eps because predictably a million internet misogynists called them cunts. I don't think what they were saying was wrong, I just didn't find it funny. I mean to be honest I'm mainly interested in that podcast for Gourley/Ion Flyming.

Yeah, the problem I had with it was just that it wasn't very funny, nothing that was disagreeable. James Bond, much like every movie, is a reflection of its time, there is nothing surprising about that.

It's clearly a bit in their second appearance, where they are obviously trying to come up with flimsy arguments for why Casino Royale is sexist when one of them only saw the first twenty minutes of it on her phone. Even when they're obviously exaggerating their claims of misogyny, it's not very funny, if for no other reason than it just doesn't fit the format of the show and no one else is playing along. Their James Bonding appearances were a real unfortunate first impression for me, but Alie's appearances on other podcasts (Throwing Shade and Before You Were Funny specifically) were really great and fully redemptive. Matt and Matt have talked about redoing Goldfinger just so there's a more typical discussion of it on the podcast, which I'd love to hear but also sort of makes it seem like they think the MRAs who poo poo all over the first episode were right (they've made it clear already that this isn't the case, but those idiots would still take it as a victory).

I'd love it if they re-did that episode, if only to hear more about the ridiculousness of James Bond (like the pigeon double take or the kananga balloon). I haven't seen all of them so it's nice to hear what I missed without having to sit through hours and hours of dated movies.

Hands raw with high fives.
It's been a while since I posted about my podcast but I'm still at it. One of the most highly requested podcasts suggested to me by goons was the Rube episode of The Dollop, so this week my son and I listened to it and talked about it:
Podcasts Are Wonderful #38
Once again if anyone has any suggestions they'd like to hear covered let me know. If you give the show a try, thanks!

MBMBAM just did an entire episode about Totinos Pizza Rolls, sponsored by Totinos, and it's hilarious. This is both a) the best sponsored content ever and b) the first good sponsored content ever.

Did those episodes really do something like this? This isn't ads, this is sponsored content, the scourge of the 2010s. It's 45 minutes of pizza roll based discussion.

The Community episodes sponsored by KFC and Subway were pretty great.

Totinos have that crazy Tim & Eric ad (and I'm not into much that they do) they did which is one of my favorite things ever, so I guess this is their new way of advertising. Pasting from my phone so I have no idea if this will work.

There were some references to a Totinos thing on the Nerdist Standup cluster, too, iirc. Notably "It's a dumpling filled with American goo"

In International Waters episode 54 Dave mentioned that some other comedian is about to be involved in a Cosby-like scandal. Does anyone know who he's talking about?

Yeah, being in denial about someone you like being a monster - as a lot of people were with Cosby for a while - is super dumb and lovely behaviour, but equally so is instantly believing in third-hand gossip, rumours and blind items, so I'd say everyone is still safe to like Louis until something more/at all substantial emerges (or continue to dislike him for actual comedy-related reasons if that's your deal).

I enjoyed that you in no way had to do that but just chose to.

That was a great podcast, though, so keep destroying yourself with horrible tie in menus for our unpaid amusement. What episode was the Hobbit Breakfast talk again?

I like Jay Mohr's podcast, and I tend to listen whenever I recognize the guest, but mother gently caress I really hate how funny he thinks "Mohr Stories Fancy" is. I have started instantly shutting it off whenever he starts with that.

For those who don't listen to his show, he starts speaking in a British accent and it's grating.

One of his podcast trademarks is his inability to stop bits before outstay their welcome. Also, he really loving loves Russell Brand.

I was big into Mohr stories a few years ago, but I gave up on it eventually. I think I felt like it was getting too serious and lame every ep and was missing the jokes it had early on. Have I missed anything good recently?

Not really. Mohr is his same old obnoxious self so the show's only as good as its guests and 2015 has been pretty weak.
