Majorian posted:His interview on "The Nerdist" was his finest (podcast) hour thus far, in my opinion. Such a mancrush. Jon Hamm's interview on the free full length NNF was just astounding. I was listening to it at my desk and when they started doing their Cajun accents I was literally crying.

I'm going to play the Leonard Maltin game at my Christmas party, complete with prizes. I've already downloaded the app! I'm a little excited.

bananasinpajamas posted:Also, Adam Carolla back on the Nerdist this week. First repeat guest? Anyway, it was loving awkward as hell last time when Carolla ranted about Sid and Marty Krofft for thirteen hours, wonder how it'll go this time I deleted this podcast today. After last week and just all of the inane crap they were talking with Matt Smith (who is either kind of not-so-bright or really really nice to put up with all that stupid stuff) I just can't listen to Hardwick anymore.

Conrad_Birdie posted:Yeah early on I was listening to every Nerdist episode - Now I only listen if the guest interests me. So, when I hit refresh and "Adam Corolla Returns" came up, I just deleted that poo poo. Can't stand Corolla. But I did like the chat with Matt Smith. I like Matt Smith too, but the first thing Hardwick's girlfriend said was something like, "I never realized Ricky Gervais' first name is Ricky!" And he was like "Good point." Um...what?

I'm working backwards listening to UYD. I'm at episode 129. I haven't heard from Aaron Neville in a while. Is this the pre-Aaron Neville time now?

Jet Jaguar posted:Today's WTF podcast has a lengthy discussion from Maron about how he was consulting on Charlie Sheen's tour. Could be an interesting fit, since Sheen appears to be on an upswing manic phase and Maron has an extensive knowledge of dealing with the crazy. I liked how Michael tried to explain semiotics to Marc and it just fell completely flat.

King Lou posted:I was just talking to my friend Dyna. She just got accused by Chris Hardwick of ripping off his ideas that he'd talked about on Nerdist. She made this http://hipster-animals.tumblr.com/ and it got popular on a bunch of sites this week and he contacted her to complain. She doesn't listen to podcasts. I guess he's comparing them to his Nerdimals idea from a couple of years ago where he hired someone do some nerd animals or something. I stopped listening to Nerdist because Hardwick kinda had this douchey vibe so this doesn't seem surprising.

CortezFantastic posted:Finally got through the first 100 episodes of Uhh Yeah Dude. God drat what a hilarious way to pass time. I don't know how this show isn't talked about more here. Did the quality drop down? Watching Jah-nathan's poetry live was one of the funniest things I ever seen. They are such a good team together, I'm not sure why this show isn't as big as it could be. It was covered as the 2nd or 3rd best podcast in Rolling Stone last month. The quality hasn't really gone down, but they do know when a segment has run its course. At that point they just retire it. As a side note to Jah! nathan's poetry, while "the white man calls her flute playing...wind."is a favorite for most, the reggae poem about gender equality had me almost falling off of my bike yesterday when I listened to it again.

Dip Facial posted:I ran into Jonathan from UYD at the Phish concert last night. I told him I was a fan of the show and we chatted for a bit. Very nice guy. I thunk Duncan Trussel from the Lavender hour said he was going to that show too. The fact that the intro and outro music for this week's episode of UYD was Phish was not lost on me.

In relation to the whole Joe Rogan, is the fact that Duncan Trussell is poorly informed about the world and has terrible opinions genuine or is it a super meta-joke? Edit: On the Lavender Hour, I mean.

Kabraxis posted:I can't say for sure, but I'm thinking he means all of those tangents Duncan goes into that always starts out with a, "What if...yadda yadda yadda." Further, I think he's wondering if Duncan is being serious when he goes into these stoner tangents about the meaning of consciousness, life, psychedelics, etc. I happen to think that he is being totally serious. I typically find entertainment in all of his hackneyed theories, even though I don't believe a bit of it. It's more like when he says that "the government is shutting down the space program! Scienece means nothing to us now!" or talking about how awful people are and yes, everything listed above. It's kind of funny because he constantly mentions Ram Dass with this kind of unquestioning reverence, which he criticisize "the plebs" of giving to almost anyone else. He also seems super mean to Natasha. I feel like I listen to an hour of him implying how much better he is than her. He's just constantly berating her and aparently she's his girlfriend? It's funny because I've voted either Green or Liberal (in Canada) in every election I've ever participated in in my life. I consider myself a pretty lefty, liberal minded person but I can kind of see how reasonable people hate Liberals when I listen to Duncan. I don't realy have the interest or patience for Joe Rogan so I was wondering if it's a character. I was just wondering if it's a schtick or not.

He begrudges everyone who's gotten a sketch show or sitcom out of jealousy without really defending his own attempts at the genres. Is he any good at acting? Or more importantly auditioning? I feel like those are some pretty important skills to have if you're going to, you know, work in entertainment. He seems angry that nobody's had the balls to look past his lack of skill and make him a success just based on his standup.

You have to be opened minded for UYD. Their style is very unique and entrenched, and really, compared to other podcasts, it's the most consistent over the years. If you can be okay with recaps of To Catch a Predator, you can follow them from the start.
