I used to love The Adam Carolla Podcast, but the new format kills me. It strikes me as hypocritical, considering how much he used to rant about how awful morning radio shows are, that the new format is essentially morning radio. What were once great podcasts of hour long interviews has essentially become a morning radio show with insipid 20 minute interviews, constantly interrupted by idiotic news stories from Florida and fart sounds from the soundboard. He does tend to poo poo on everyone around him, because he's THE ONLY PERSON IN THE UNIVERSE WITH COMMON SENSE.

My new favorite is the Nerdist. He does tend to sperg about iphones and the comedy process, but he's still a great interviewer, I especially liked the Drew Carey episode, and the live podcast with Craig Ferguson was awesome.

I think it's moving into the worst of both worlds right now. There's a lot of filler that just seems designed to waste time, like the Isaac Hayes fake conversations and the increasingly lackluster news segments. If the rants and politics bother you, those are present in full force. Also, keep in mind that it's creeping up to 2 hours a day--no commercials, no music, and no producer or boss to keep Adam's ego in check.

He's a talented guy and I really enjoyed the podcast over the past year, but here in the past two months it seems to be getting harder and harder to listen to. Especially with all the wacky sound effects that keep interrupting people and, incidentally, just make the show longer.

What killed it for me was the interview with Peter North. Here's a guy with a 20+ year career in the porn industry, arguably the industry's biggest star (HAHA DICK JOKE!). Adam gets his 'origin story', and then goes on a 5 minute analogy-story about how North can still be straight even though he banged dudes early in his career, which makes North uncomfortable as hell. Then, rather than delve into what North thinks about the current state of the industry or the future (the furthest he gets is "What do you think about the modern 'anger porn' style?" "I don't like it"), He spends the rest of the interview making dick jokes and segueing into the insipid news segment, where he makes more dick jokes.

He doesn't even mention the Nissan 300ZX North recently sold on ebay (http://tinyurl.com/2e8hrmo). Come on, it's an easy lollipop topic ripe for the picking (especially for a gearhead), and I personally would like to know what motivated North to do such a thing. Is the industry getting killed by torrents? Is his paycheck taking a hit because of tube sites? What does he think of the Stagliano obscenity trial? If only North had been on a few months ago, it would be a way better interview.

Once or twice a week I could deal with the morning radio style and WACKY FLORIDA CRIMINALS, but now that it's EVERY EPISODE, it just sucks. I liked the interview style because it was more of a conversation between two people, and we get to know the interviewee a little bit better because it's not a rigid interview style. Adam's rants and repetitive stories suck, but the rest of the interviews made up for it.

I don't remember what it was, and I can't find about because he deleted it, but man, how sad of a human being do you have to be to personally email someone who posts a negative comment on your videos?
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ec_iYKigxRU if you don't remember who this is)

Here it is:
"My YouTube views, in the millions.

Yours, in the hundreds.

Me, traveling the world in first class (headlining theaters in UK right now and heading off to Dubai, moscow, Colombo sri Lanka and Bangalore, India next month) and earning up to $15,000 a show.

You, trying to find a job.

Ha ha ha.

Sent from my ridiculously overpriced iPad"

I think the best part is that it comes from a hotmail account. REALLY? YOU'RE MAKING THAT MUCH MONEY AND YOU STILL HAVE A HOTMAIL ACCOUNT?

calrocker@hotmail.com if you're curious.

And all of his jokes in Dubai, Moscow, etc are going to boil down to: Americans are fat lazy slobs, and/or white people are bad at dancing.

I get paid a ton of money, therefore I am a great comedian. None of my peers have any respect for me, but that's because they're all just jealous of how much money I make, and wish they could write such great jokes.

Does anyone else like Bill Cosby Bukowski? I found it hilarious, and Scott could barely keep a straight face towards the end.

It kind of sucks that Marc only barely breaks even.

It's like a Catch-22: If he tried to monetize the show, he'll lose what makes it so good. By accepting more sponsors, doing commercials, or zany morning zoo poo poo he'd probably lose his core of fans, and the intimacy and openness of his interviews. It would be awesome if he could turn it into a show, but again, the presence of cameras and crews and such would probably ruin the candidness of the show, and the interviewees would put their 'shields' up.

Although at this point, I think he's earned the reputation to be able to charge for his podcasts. A pittance, like 99 cents a show (or every-other-show), do one per week, and keep the quality level just as high.

Isn't podcasting coming to a tipping point? I think it's proving to be a radio killer, because there's more content and less interruptions. Carolla does direct sponsorship, Pardo has the premium subscription style, and Marc operates on donations; Has any business model come out as the 'best' way?

I just listened to the Gallagher WTF today, so forgive me for being late to the party. I'm pretty sure Gallagher sucks at chemistry.

I only took Chem 1, but I'm 99% sure cell phones don't shoot protons at you. In the PYF history thing thread, there's a story of a russian nuclear scientist that got hit by a proton in a particle accelerator and his hair fell out, his skull swelled, lost memories, etc.

The sense of entitlement was insane as well. I imagine arguing with Gallagher is much like arguing with Glenn Beck; he uses a bunch of logical fallacies, realizes he's not going to talk his way out, and just quits and leaves.

The most recent Race Wars with Tracy Morgan as the guest is amazing.

Tracy does a '...so you got my emails' joke that gets a bigger laugh than Sherrod's ever gotten in the past year of RW. It made me realize Sherrod has been doing a terrible Tracy impression all along

Also occasional co-host Lisa Ann is the female pornstar version of Sherrod.

He got that out of the way early, pretty golden after that. He hits on Lisa Ann, but is funny and not creepy like Sherrod. Race Wars is like a boat where Sherrod is furiously bailing water into the boat while everyone else is trying to row towards a shore marked with 'good and entertaining podcast'. Every other comedian guest is a stark reminder of how bad Sherrod is, and how he's riding the Chris-Rock-Is-My-Cousin train until the wheels fall off. It's almost like an elaborate troll by Kurt.

And then Lisa Ann has to remind everyone she gets plowed on film almost as often as Sherrod reminds everyone he's black.

The conspiracy guy was hilarious because almost all of his bullshit is disproven by a high school level understanding of physics. Like whenever he starts a sentence with "I'M NO EXPERT ______-OLOGIST, BUT" you can pretty much ignore everything afterwards. Like he doesn't understand that rockets need a certain amount of horizontal velocity to stay in orbit, he thinks that because they turn horizontal after liftoff that's proof that the earth is flat. As if you just fly straight up from Cape Canaveral and float in space indefinitely. I'm sure there's physics goons that know better than me, obviously.

It's good radio because Kurt just keeps egging him on and never contradicts him, then the big reveal is the that the dude is like a fundamentalist christian, and all of these conspiracies exist as like... proof of god's existence or something. It's bananas, I thought it was a wacky morning zoo character.
