Batman in the first pic doesn't look so great with all the white under the arm, but Catwoman looks awesome.

That's another reason I've never been that worried about AA, since I've never met someone who just thought batman was kinda cool or ok and didn't think he was the best thing to ever come around like that dude in this thread posting about how well trained he is. I know this is from the first page and all but I'm sure there's a lot of us like that. I don't read comics at all, with the exception that I think I read one Batman comic when I was on holidays a while back and it was ok. I get weirded out by some of the batman love too - There's a lets play video where the narrator did nothing but quote the batman movies in a really forced accent, it was pretty sad. I have no idea if that was supposed to be serious though. Having said that I still really enjoyed Batman:AA and am looking forward to the sequel!

Unreal engine allows the modellers to select the amount Specular highlighting they want on each material. It just so happens that like emoticon said, most people just copy the Gears of War look for their specular lighting. Mirror's Edge used a third-party for something called Global Illumination which is basically how light bounces off walls and bends around corners. Not too long ago Valve wrote a white-paper on an efficient way to do model self-shadowing and Radiosity. Epic, with the help of Valve's whitepaper, developed their system of global illumination called Lightmass which is now incorporated into UE3 (since January I think). Specular highlighting has a place, like for wet stones and shiny marble. But looks retarded when done to extremes. darkhand fucked around with this message at Aug 12, 2010 around 09:28 |

Arkham Asylum was unexpectedly fun as poo poo. I've never really followed Batman since watching the Adam West TV show when I was a kid, and decided to get it on a whim. Was not diappointed. Really hoping for a Clayface or the Ventriloquist, I loved those guys just from reading their profiles in AA. ...Ironically, whenever I think about who should play either of them in either a game or a movie, I come up with both Tobin Bell and Adam West.

The premise of buying a chunk of Gotham and turning it into a villain playground does sound silly but it should make for some incredible environments, and since they're scaling down detective mode's overlay it means I'll actually look at them!

Ddraig posted:The only thing I disliked about AA was the premise of Gordon being kidnapped somehow, particularly as ingame he looked like he worked out every single day of his life. Gordon gets kidnapped a lot. He's one of the few hooks a villain can use to get Batman to make it personal, so he gets kidnapped or threatened or poisoned or whatnot a lot. I've only read a couple dozen Batman stories, and I can think of 2 in that set off the top of my head where Gordon gets kidnapped. One and a half, maybe, since Gordon's "arrest" by Two-Face in No Man's Land didn't have anything to do with Batman. Speaking of which, Two-Face had better be defeated by his own coin. And not by Bataranging it out of the air, although that could be an awesome way to stun him in a boss fight. But anyway, by extrapolating that ratio of kidnappings over the sheer amount of Batman stories, I can come to the very scientific conclusion that Gordon gets kidnapped a lot.

I'm really looking forward to this. The issue also teases multiplayer. Maybe even co-op. One cool new thing I noticed too is you can stop on the line launcher at any time, and dangle from it. The problem is that Superman is literally godlike. It wouldn't be possible to create a game with Superman that works in any capacity without undermining his power somehow. If they didn't there would be no game. Superman wins because he's Superman. Unless he's up against Batman, of course.

I get where you're coming from, definitely. The first kidnapping was at least partially justifiable, since he got hit in the head with a stun baton from a guy he assumed was on his side. That'd ring anyone's chimes, save maybe Bane and higher on the superhuman scale. The second one, though, I can't even remember if Joker even tried to explain that. I remember Batman sending Gordon off the island in a police boat, then nothing from him until he's dangling from Joker's ceiling. I may just be forgetting something.

While the game ended up terrible, the Superman returns game recently had a nice idea of how to make the game tense and compelling. Superman was invulnerable. Couldnt get hurt. Metropolis could though! Metropolis was your health bar. Street full of cars explode? Metropolis loses health. Metallo lasers a building down? Metropolis loses health. If metropolis lost all its health, the city was ruined, game over. (Never actually saw this, game was terrible. I imagine the animation was Supes with head in hands.)

I'd love to see a much better Superman game run with that idea. I always thought that was a terrible idea. Not only did it take away one of the coolest aspects of playing as a super-strong character, namely the destruction of your environments, but it made the entire game one huge escort mission. Everyone loves an escort who just sits there in the line of fire and can't defend itself.

Granted he's not as screwed up in the head as Bruce and doesn't have as many fancy toys but he's still the poo poo. Even if he's not playable I hope we at least see him at some point in Arkham City. Considering the increasing scope of the map and the story you'd think Batman would enlist a little help. While we're on the topic of Bruce's sidekicks, after watching DC's Under The Red Hood animated move I also want to see Jason Todd make an appearance in his Red Hood persona. Like with AA it doesn't even have to be a full character appearance but a subtle nod of his existence. Then maybe break him out in the eventual sequel to Arkham City.

I think that one reason why Nightwing probably doesn't make it into the game is the simple reason that outside the US he's pretty much unknown. Catwoman is much more recognizable. Also there is the thing that other media than comics, Batman has pretty much always worked better without sidekicks.
