Someone tell Plaschke about internet porn so that he'll vanish from the public eye and never produce another column again.

MourningView posted:I'm glad he's dropping this politics bullshit to get back to something important like projecting the performance of baseball players. Right after the election he said, either in an interview or in his blog, that he was thinking about moving on from politics to something else. It's just a little surprising he'd return to baseball/sports. Dude has enough clout now that he could probably go start his own website and do whatever the hell he wants. I hope he's getting a nice payday here, at least.

Deadspin made a successful FOIA request for the e-mails that Darren Rovell sent to a U. of Michigan professor about a former student who made fun of him on twitter.

Reminder: the best way to fight back against Shaugnessy is to not click on that link. We know what he is doing. He knows what he is doing. The Globe knows what he is doing. Don't support him by giving his columns web traffic.

Crion posted:I hunted this quote down because I had to see in what context Peter King was allowed to write about baseball, and as bad as this is, it's got nothing on the fact that King is so impressed with himself and his own thoughts that he used letter headings to triple the size of his Ten Things I Think vanity segment (item 10 is composed of 20 sub-headings labelled "a" through "t") SI has had him cover stuff like Spring Training in the past too. But yeah, he is woefully unqualified to have opinions about baseball. Even moreso than football.

It might indicate that he really is on the outs with ESPN and doesn't really give a gently caress if they suspend him again.

This is technically old, but I feel it's worth sharing. Deadspin did a Worst American Sports Journalism of 2014 article the other day. Jeff Pearlman was one of the dishonorees, for a column where he refused to condemn Ray Rice since Jeff had done some lovely stuff as a college student.quote:Ray Rice deserves to be tattooed and branded and damned. He does. But if this job has taught me one thing, it's that no one is black or white. Not Rocker (who has done great work with veterans). Not Vick (an amazing rebound). Not Strawberry. Not Jeff Pearlman—who drove drunk in college; who had unprotected sex in college; who cheated on a test as a freshman. We all do bad things. On occasion, v-e-r-y bad things. For those keeping score: Things Jeff Pearlman will not call your mom about : -drunk driving -not wearing a condom -cheating on tests -beating your girlfriend Things Jeff Pearlman will call your mom about : -dissing him in a comments section

I'm not saying it is, but ol' Jeff here is the one equating it with drunk driving and domestic abuse.

Them being a lovely company doesn't justify the deplorable things she said to that woman. A college degree isn't a ticket to look down upon other people.

Where do people get this notion that employees can't (or shouldn't) lose their jobs for misconduct outside the workplace? It happens all the time, in many different fields.

Lockback posted:I think the notion is you shouldn't punish someone at 27 for things that they did when they were 15, which doesn't strike me as that heinous of position. I think whats different here is the particular role this guy held which to me is pretty relevant, but I mostly don't care. Yeah, as repugnant as I may find the behavior of the Family Research Council, it's completely understandable why they wouldn't want a confirmed child molester as an executive. Kornheiser acting like it was some sort of violation to make what Duggar did public is obscene, regardless.

It doesn't do ESPN any good to get in a pissing match with Simmons. They'll probably just ignore anything he does, much like they do with their other frequent detractors (Deadspin).

Deadspin's come a long way since the Daulerio days when they were basically Barstool Lite. Ratto was an inspired hire and most of their staff ranges from fine to good. Magary is still a fun read if you're into his style of assholishness. They even got Charlie Pierce to do a guest column on Jim Bouton yesterday.
